Nice Site, Beware of the Midges!

We stayed here for 3 nights in June. Site was really easy to find, and access is good. Warden was very helpful on arrival in directing us to the vacant pitches. Site is very clean and tidy, with a great dog walk.

Only downside is the amount of midges! I got about 20 bites putting our awning up, and means you can't sit outside of an evening. I'm sure this is only a seasonal issue though!

Serviced pitches have a very limited view due to a high bank one side and trees the other.

We had a great phone signal (Vodaphone). Stock up on food and drink when you are out and about during the day, as closest shops are approx 9 miles away in Keswick or Penrith.

Troutbeck June 2016

Lovely site, very clean facilities and the staff were very friendly. The dog walk was excellent and they even provided poop bags near the bin sited at the beginning of the walk! The only negative was there was very little wifi signal! Sometimes thats a good thing though, eh? ??

Favourite Site.

This site, set in beautiful, if a little remote area of the Lake District is simply stunning. The epitome of what a well run Caravan Club site should be. Very tidy, extremely clean and well maintained toilet blocks, (to be updated next year I believe). Such hard working, cheerful and helpful wardens. Thank you, we had a wonderful stay.

Great location near the Lakes

This site is very easy to get to from the M6 with good access roads. We found the wardens very helpful, offering to help push our van onto our pitch as we we're having problems with our battery. Fortunately, there is more than enough room and I was able to reverse the unit like a professional. The site is very clean and tidy, as were the toilet blocks. There are two blocks, making it very convenient - no pun intended. The dog walk is very good and you can walk off into the forest quite safely. There was the added bonus of a chip van visiting one evening each week. We would definitely go back if we were looking for a stop in this area.

Lovely Area

We arrived on 5th June for 6 nights. All Wardens very friendly and helpful, in fact one of the best teams we've come across, all smiley and cheerful when ever you saw them and kept the site immaculate. Service pitch great size and plenty of room for car one side and awning the other giving great privacy between neighbours. However one chap with a caravan took no notice of the wardens pitching request and reversed in right up to the edge of the gravel next to us with aqua roll etc on the grass, any nearer and he'd have been on our pitch. I did ask him to adjust it and pitch as requested to comply with regulations which he did do thankfully, but why do it in the first place!! Another caravan near us was seen filling the toilet cassette from the service pitch drinking water tap, Holding the emptying nozzle over the tap. I explained the issues with this which seemed to go totally over their head, I wonder if the CCC could put signs on service pitch taps stating drinking water only no toilet casette filling. I would not want to attach a hose to a tap that's had a cassette nozzel over it. Finally inconsiderate lazy dog owners (not the dogs fault) allowed pets to poo on pitches and on the main road through the site. You know who you are so please take your dogs to the dog walk. I also noted some guests  had up to 4 dogs with them which in my view is to many, there was lots of barking and yapping up at the top end of the service pitch area near the dog walk. The CCC might consider allowing only 2 dogs or areas for dog owners with multiple pets or additional charges.  None of this reflects on the wardens who cannot have eyes everywhere but on inconsiderate club members who have no thought for fellow members. That said this is a really nice site and area and we will visit again.

Visitors from East Yorkshire

New to caravaning we are still looking for the more easily accessible sites. In this regard Troutbeck was ideal. Great location for visiting the northern half of the lakes. Took advantage of a serviced pitch for the first time and what a great choice that was.

June Visit.

When we arrived we got a warm welcome form the Wardens. From our caravan we could see the fells in the background magnificent. Achieved one of my ambitions, I went clay pigeon shooting at the outdoor centre next to the caravan site. Plus we blessed with good weather most of the time. Visited many of the attractions of the lake district. A very enjoyable stay.

Great Witsun Week Break

We still can't believe it never rained for the whole week - never been seen in the Lakes. Fab site, peaceful location only spoilt by someone complaining to the wardens about the teenagers -  There is always one, but hey, we were all one at some stage in our lives. The wardens made an error by giving a pitch key out while we were searching for ours to a family signing in - this should never have been done, it made us very angry. Will be back next year

Perfect stopover on way home

We stopped here 1 night on way back home from Scotland about 15 mins from M6 at Penrith. beautiful setting peace and quiet, all facilities good with plenty of showers and the biggest shower cubicles Ive seen. We parked next to a generator of some sort so was a bit noisy but as it was only 1 night didn't matter. Wonderful walk for the dog at the end of the site onto a forest path. Love to go back and stay longer and enjoy some hill walking

Good location and well managed site

We stayed here at end of may for the week. Lovely spot with good 3G signal but unfortunately no wi-fi on site. Toilet blocks are not typical CC design but kept clean and tidy. Very handy dog/bike wash. Easy travel to Keswick and Derwent Water, and to Ambleside and middle of Lakes. Small dog walk on site alongside drive, but is a forest walk on stony tracks off site.
