Troutbeck - wonderful despite the weather

Have some sympathy with the previous reviewer...the welcome was "luke warm" (unlike what I usually get) and for the first time I had a discussion re the length of my unit...(which fitted fine on the hard standing). The lady even came out of the office to inspect my hardware....? I always think that it isn't what you say..it is how you say it...charm school lesson please? Also thought the note written on chalk board, reminding everyone to de-camp on a glorious BH Monday was a bit uneccessary and smacked of un-friendly...the site was half full at best that afternoon. Contrast that to our stay recently at Southport, here there was a pleasant sign inviting people to speak to the office if they wished to stay on past 12. Reckon the other staff may have been brilliant so wouldn't want to tar them all with the same brush. That said, I thought the site was beautiful...the views breathtaking (if you can park with a view of Blencathra). You need transport as the walking from site ain't great. But just 3 miles down the road is Aira Force and Ullswater/Glenridding. Keswick is just 6 miles to the west. There did seem more for the kids than normal...play areas + indoor facilities inc pool etc. The two toilet blocks were quaint - old fashioned but more than adequate. The water was really hot! I imagine updating the toilet blocks (imo not necessary) would be tricky given that this is within the National Park.
