November Break in York

Arrived just after 1.00 pm following recent site evacuation. Very efficient booking in system. You simply give your name, find a pitch and go back later to pay. Wardens very friendly and helpful. Site was on flood alert all the time we were there and notices reminding you to keep your phone with you at all times in case of evacuation.Facilities on site very clean and although the site was almost full there was never a problem in getting a shower in the morning. Very convenient for the shops in York which are less than a ten minute walk away. We will be back again in November 2023

Christmas Market

Able to arrive early due to site reopening after being cleared after flood alert. Phone call on previous day very helpful. Staff very helpful throughout our stay, facilities in excellent condition. York market well worth a visit as we’re the local hostelries.

Holy Grail of Club sites

On Facebook people seem to mention York Rowntree primarily in terms of being unable to get a pitch. Indeed I have done so myself. However two nights at short notice came up and we had been staying 30 minutes drive away. There was a technical issue with our booking (what we booked and had confirmed was different to what was showing on the Club system)but the wardens got it sorted. Every time I have anything to do with the Club now there is an IT issue of some description. If they don't get it sorted I'll be forming part of the drove not renewing membership. Just to pick up on issues raised in the couple of other reviews I read - we had no issue with the friendliness of the wardens and yes the site is very brightly lit in places but dark in others. Maybe something to think about if you have a choice of pitch. 1 to 1:30pm seemed to be Wacky Races each day so unless you are hoping for a specific pitch try to arrive a little later. Departure time is 11:15am which I think is fair enough as there has to be an attempt to manage access along the narrow roads leading to the site. The park next door would be great with kids. There are local shops accessible at the back of the site. It's about ten minutes walk into the city. You would struggle to park a car much nearer to the shops and sites so I can't praise it high enough on location. It is in a fairly quiet area but some noise from the park and adjoining streets. But nothing terrible. The toilet block is good. Everything is raised in case of flooding and whilst there is a ramp as well as stairs it might be hard work if you have limited mobility and rely on using the toilet block.

Unhelpful bullying warden at check in and is it time to leave

Regular visitors to this sites for over 20 years and never ever have I come across such a rude warden! When I asked her if I could ask a question about the new system for bookings she barked ‘ring head office’ (which I had already done and was sent an unhelpful link). She was only interested in how it’s better for wardens and head office - the members do as they are told. As people living on a pension and not in the best of health - we can’t afford losing the full fee if we have to cancel less than 3 weeks before (we struggled at 3 days but thought it fair). We’ve decided to see out our current bookings before making a final decision but unless something changes we won’t have an option. And talking to others we won’t be alone.

OCTOBER 2022

Fabulous site in a fantastic location - 10 minutes walk into York with all it's attractions - friendly & helpful wardens. Clean facilities - large pitches some with hedges round - Rowntree Park is lovely for a wander. One word of warning - do not arrive on a Sunday as it is like an episode of Wacky Races with people hurtling round looking for pitches. Will be returning as had a fabulous time.

First time and won’t be the last.

This site is only 40 minutes from home, so whenever we go to York it’s just for the day. We decided to give the site a go as we had heard so many good things about it, and how glad are we we did! The site is immaculate, small but perfectly formed. The facilities are spot on, clean, warm and welcoming. The staff were very friendly, helpful and professional, everything you need and want from the club. Walks off site are great, 5 mins into York city centre, and the river walk is just great, nice and flat, perfect for cyclists and dog walkers. This is a premium site, the location is perfect, and although it may seem on the high price end to some, I can’t think where else you would get this location, facilities and city break for less than £100 per night! As for the negative reviews regarding the site staff, they have a job to do, making it fair for everyone, instead of complaining you weren’t allowed to wait on site 40 mins early, have a look at the before you travel page on the web… and take note. Thanks for a great stay York Rowntree!

Excellent City Centre Site, Clean and well organised.

Great location for visiting York City Centre. Directions worked well. Very clean facilities, compact, well-maintained site. There are bright security lights spread around so your blinds will need to be good, but this is good for safety on site. There is a public park right next to the site which can be busy but quietened down later. Would recommend Foss Island Road for parking motorhomes after you've left if you want some time in the city - you have to pay at a meter but it's reasonable and easy on-road parking.

5 Star Club Site

Visited the York Club site mid September 2022 & we had good weather. The site & facilities are immaculate & well maintained. Staff are very pleasant & helpful. It is a wee bit expensive £287 for a week in September but this is one of the clubs premium sites & can be difficult to get booked due to the popularity of the site. It is located near the centre of York a short walk from all the historic attractions. Clementhorpe Road is now reopened & the previous diversion through Butcher Terr & Rowntree park is closed.

Well situated.

We stayed two nights and loved it, you are about as close to the city centre as you can get, if you leave by the back gate and turn left you go into Rowntree park and that is amazing for walking dogs or just strolling around, a ten minute walk gets you to a fish and chip shop that gives discount to CAMC members! Pitches have hedges dividing most of them, facilities were kept clean as was the whole site, wardens friendly and going about their duties.

Great site - very poor staff attitude.

We totally accept the rules around arrival times, but having arrived early we were greeted by "just get back in your van", "you lot will all have to go and come back later, I'll let you in so you can go". No argument we were 30 mins early, but a simple "hello, nice to see you but I'm afraid you cant come in yet......" would have been more welcoming than no greeting at all and a sharp, rude statement. Great site - very poor staff attitude.
