great location -noisy morning

Fantastic location and even at £48 for one night its a cheap way of staying walking distance of York centre with no worry about where to park. Surprised by a loud radio at 7am and though it strange for a club site -only to realise when we went out that it was noise from flats nearby. Didn't really bother us but may others. 11.15 off site felt early too :(

I Can't Believe This Isn't A Members Only Site!

Given how popular this site is and how difficult it is to get on I can't believe it's NOT for members only!! This is a lovely site in a great location but it is very difficult to book a stay. Stopped here early June ( booked a year in advance) and the team of four wardens were extremely happy and polite. What difference a few weeks makes, stayed late July and only two wardens on site/duty all weekend and you could sense fatigue was starting to set in. Site still well kept but it was very busy. The Wardens still undertook all their duties but the spring in their step along with the smiles on their faces seemed to have slipped a little bit. Maybe it's due to non-members not knowing the basic club rules with regards to noise, ball games, walking though pitches, leaving rubbish by the bins etc, that's worn them down. Seriously think this should be a members only site!

We love this site but…..

Like I said we love this site, location for York city centre is excellent, the wardens are always helpful and friendly, the whole site and facilities are spotless so what’s the but…. Unfortunately at £48 per night it’s getting too expensive!

Flood management works are finished: full access restored

Back to a favourite site for a few nights. As usual, constantly fully booked months in advance, so I booked single nights on the same type of pitch until I had what I needed - then asked the site to link them so we don’t have to move pitch All the flood management works are finished so the old entrance is open and there is no curfew. Brilliant location for Motorhomes, and for dogs who love the river and parks.

3 night break in york

Arrived just after 1pm had a bit of trouble getting to site as the road was closed. Fast tracked in as there were lots of people arriving all at the same time found a pitch set up and headed out into town (about a 15 minute walk along river) Lots of lovely walks along riverbank and plenty of cycle tracks Found it a bit noisy on site as there's a park with play area just the other side of the hedges also make sure you pitch up as near to the post as possible if not you will get a call telling you to move your van like we did.(could only use one side of our garage as we were so close to the hedges) site was very clean and maintained and in a great location for the town center

Great location, good facilities but cost makes it inaccessible to many families in a cost of living crisis

As others have said, the location is fantastic. Close to the local shops at Bishopthorpe Road and with York centre just a lovely 20-minute riverside walk away, it's ideal. I wasn't expecting the brilliant Rowntree Park just next door to be so good either - it's fantastic for kids and also has table tennis tables and a nice cafe. There's even a few cycle routes directly accessible from the site. We did the Solar Way as a family, well we got to Uranus (no jokes please) and really enjoyed it as it's flat and pretty much entirely traffic free as it follows an old railway line to Selby. The facilities are very good and clean and nice to use. There isn't a lot of space on site but it didn't feel too crowded, with the nice hedges helping to give us some privacy. There was some noise from the park but it didn't spoil our stay even though it seemed to continue into the night sometimes. I have earplugs so slept fine! But the reason the site wasn't crowded despite being fully booked (in fact we couldn't get an awning pitch, such was the demand) has to be the cost. A warden told us that people were cancelling bookings because they couldn't afford to come any more with the cost of living crisis and increased cost of fuel. But I think part of the reason has to be the site fees. It was £60 a night for the four of us - £60 for a caravan pitch!?! I have never paid more than £35 before and that came with a serviced pitch and extras. The site is great but it can't possibly be worth the money. It's not right to price it so high as caravanning should be accessible to people on low to moderate incomes. How can the club expect to attract young families on a budget at this price? We have to think about attracting and retaining the caravanners of the future to safeguard the future of the Club.

Very clean and tidy site, but 10pm "curfew" a pain

We booked this site becuase of the location, which we thought would mean we could easily access York on foot. With the flood defence work in progress, we had to use the rear entrance. We were given a key for the rear entrance, but this gate was padlocked at 10pm (not sure why it needs a padlock in addition to a key lock), which meant if we weren't back by 10pm we would need to walk an extra mile or get a taxi. We received information about the impact of the flood work on vehicle access, but don't recall seeing anything abour restricted pedestrian access. It would have been useful to know this before we booked.

Fantastic Location for Visiting York

Lovely site , with an easy walk in to York, even if the flood defence work is still in progress. The "new" route in is fine and for a city centre very manageable with no bottlenecks to contain with.Just be careful when turning into Butcher Terrace that you allow for you van length's on the back,as caravan in front hit kerb quite hard. York is an amazing city to walk around with visits to the Shambles and a guided tour inside the Minster, this was so good as without the guide you would have just walked past without knowing the history or story behind it. The Yorvik experience is good (not brilliant) but takes you through the story of York on a train ride.Pubs and restaurants aplenty and lovely having a drink on the river. The lovely Museum Gardens are pleasant to stroll around but they do close at 18.00hrs. We did do the York Dungeon but be careful it is not really suitable for under 10's.and you do need a sense of humour. It has sketches with real characters some really funny. Site is very nice wardens let me pitch first then go back and pay,one thing I did notice was the large pitches, plenty of room for awning car and van, that's if you are on an awning pitch. You can see why this is one of the most popular (but no cheap) club site.
