Nice site - but beware if you are a larger unit

Access to site seemed to be set to keep vans out As long as you do your research as to access- no problem really- easier from the west than east from N2069 ?. (expressway). Do NOT use sat nav- or at your peril. Find your pitch on foot- access roads narrow and turning areas few. Managed to put a van wheel in a ditch-silly me. My automover had just died on holiday- if you have a largish unit and no mover- be careful- it could be difficult unless you have a good car full of pushers. Quiet at night after 'lights out'. Sanitary blocks very good and impeccably clean for a busy site. Entertainment available and good- staff very helpful. Nice area, too often used as an overnight stop, much to see and do. Clarmont a nice city. Would visit again with automover working!

Nightmare to get to!

We stayed here for one night on route to the North. It was a nightmare to find as we had to drive through built up areas with countless traffic lights and an increasing gradient. On arrival we were told to find our own pitch. The lay out was like a rabbit warren and manoeuvring a twin-axle around looking for a pitch with electricity was not pleasant after a 6 hour drive! The shower block was superb and obviously new and the staff were particularly helpful when we needed to get Wi-Fi connection. There was some fairly noisy entertainment in the evening which kept us awake but we had had a long day! 'Petit dejeuner' next morning at the café was not good as the croissants were dry and probably a day old. We would not stay here again due to location.

June Holiday

All that has been said previously with regard to this Site is correct. The only thing that is not mentioned is that Indigo Royat is on cardiac hill. This 20 minute walk is exhausting for older people in fact some may not be able to do it. Having said that the Site put on a mini bus into town but mornings only for 1 euro each.Thank goodness for this. We have electric bikes and these would not cope with the hill coming back to the Site.

Interesting site

Unfortunately poor weather but would return to this unusual site, good showers. Walk down to Royat and bus to Clermont was interesting. Would go again hope for better weather, June was a quiet time probably hectic in the main season.

A good site

We were at Indigo Royat with a campervan for 4 days from 15th May 2016. The new toilet and shower block was open and very good. A second one appears to now be under construction.Everything was clean and tidy and the staff in reception were very helpful. Some people seem to have trouble finding the site. Do not use a satnav. The route instructions in Caravan Europe work. We drove straight there from the motorway. There was a frequent bus service from the bottom of the road which we found very useful. We chose our pitch and enjoyed our stay.

misleading reviews

Wasn't sure about this site from previous reviews, but it wasn't bad at all. The site is as described, large and woody and when it rains it is muddy ( it rained during our stay). But the facilities looked more than acceptable, and a top class new washroom block is under construction. Would stop there again - ideal overnighter to/from S France or Spain. Local facilities in Royat more than acceptable.

Disappointing

We used this site for a stop over travelling from Caen to Girona and as this was listed on the CC as a 'club approved site' we thought it must be good but we were sadly disappointed. This was 23 August and already it seemed it was closing up with only 1 shower block open and boy was that in need of some TLC. As stated by others, the electric posts were miles from some pitches so we moved from where we we told to go and the trek to the water was ridiculous as the nearest fresh water stand pipe had been turned off. One word of warning regarding getting to this site trusting your sat nav, don't! Ours took us through the centre of Clermont and the final hair pin bend at the top of the hill we had to negotiate a railway tunnel which just about finished us off! Not an ideal stop off site which is all it's good for.

Response from the Caravan Club:

Thank you for posting this review online and we appreciate the warning regarding the sat nav instructions, I am sure that that will prove useful to other members.  We also provide detailed directions in our Overseas Campsite Guide for all of the sites that we work with.  We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the site; however we have been informed by Indigo Royat that all the sanitary blocks have been renovated for 2016.

Response from Indigo Royat:

Thank you for coming to our campsite.  I’m sorry to read some disappointments in your review. I’m surprised to read only 1 from our 4 sanitary blocks were opened during your stay at the end of August.   At the end of last season we started to renovate all the sanitary blocks to get these all done for 2016, which means we had to close some a bit earlier to avoid any delays in our schedule.

I hope we’ll get the chance to welcome you again on our sites in the future !

OK

Used as an overnight en-route to S France.  Not well signed and difficult to navigate around the site.  On arrival were allocated a pitch that was already assigned and having set up - elect was an inordinate lenght from the pitch, having moved had very sporadic electric.  Staff were abrasive and unapologetic, met a number of disatissfied clients of all nations - they are taking the cash and not investing as described admirably by the nissan hut toilet blocks!  This is not a 4 star!!

Approach very impressive but not borne out

as title suggests not the best. Being left to your devices is not really acceptable if others have blocked off pitches that are in fact free. Not worth it's stars

Response from the Caravan Club:

Thank you for posting this review online, we are disappointed to hear that you feel that the site is not worth its stars.  The site has been undergoing extensive renovations so the facilities will be much improved for 2016.  All of the overseas sites that we work with have their own planning procedures for pitch allocations and as we don’t own the sites we are unable to influence this, however in some circumstances it can be possible to request a particular pitch.

Response from Indigo Royat:

Sorry to read some disappointment in your review.

This campsite is now completely renovated: last year we renovated the reception, restaurant and bar/terrace; and for 2016 the sanitary blocks.

Regarding our pitches, we make sure if possible to give the Club ‘members the choice to select the pitch they want however our regular clients can block the pitch they want on their online booking, which means in this case we have to keep these closed on our planning.

I hope we’ll have the chance to welcome you again on our sites in the future!

Overnight stay at Indigo Royat

We stayed here overnight on our way back to Calais, facilities were basic but clean, mixed toilets and showers but it seemed to work.   There is also a nice swimming pool, boules and tennis courts.   Pleasant enough for what we needed, staff were very pleasant and spoke some English.
