Superb location

This is our 2nd visit to the site, we visited in August so the site is busy as are the surrounding areas. All facilities clean, the shop is well stocked and reasonably priced.  We visited San Sebastian just over the Spanish border and the queue to return to France was long - 2 hours to drive 7 miles.  If you go further inland there are lots of pretty villages which are quieter.  Reception issue free bus tickets to Biarritz and Bidart which is highly recommended. On site, the hedges and trees need cutting and for at least 1 week, 2 of the 4 washing machines were out of order  The main attraction of this site is it's proximity to the beach and, because of this, holidaymakers return year after year.  As no doubt we will!!

Very crowded

When we visited before it was out of season and we really liked the site. However, arriving towards the end of August we found the site very crowded. The pitches are much closer together than it appears from the photographs and only one was free, just as well we had booked. The pitch was small and sloping towards an unfenced drop to the row of pitches below, would be very dangerous for small children. Although wrist bands are compulsory, security with young children could be a problem.

Nice site but expensive

Stayed here for the last week of August 2016. This is a nice site with direct access to the beach. The sea here attracts surfers in their hundreds and is not really suitable for young families. I can't agree with a previous report on the cleanliness - in my experience this is the cleanest French site I have ever stayed on mostly I suspect because the clientele is mainly German with some Brits, Austrians and Swiss thrown in and this means the owners have to up their game a bit. The swimming pool is lovely and shop offers a great selection. The restaurant not so great, expensive and mediocre quality. Pitches are sandy and I would agree that some of the hedges are in need of a trim, but other than that the site is clean and well kept with secure private access to the beach. My main criticism of this site is the price. It strikes me as very expensive compared to other French sites with similar facilities or indeed with the site over the border in Spain at Playa Joel which we've also reviewed.

Perfection

We stayed on this site for 12 nights and had a fabulous holiday. We had a sea/beach front pitch. The site is spotlessly clean as are all the facilities. The staff are helpful and friendly and security is also good. Really good value for Money. Worth the long journey from Yorkshire

Amazing

We stayed here for 7 nights and totally fell in love with it. Yes I agree the shower blocks looked a little tired but the cleanliness and hot powerful showers made up for it. We were allocated a pitch which overlooked the cliffs and beach..oh my goodness it was good, we saw the most spectacular sunsets & felt like we were dining in the best seats in the house each night with that view. The beach is literally the other site of a gate accessible with a key card allocated on your arrival. It was a beautiful beach & perfect for our 4 year old daughter as it involved zero effort walking there with buckets/spades etc as it was next to the site. There can be quite a swell in the sea & it is popular with surfers but that said we took our daughter in with no issues on the calmer days. The pool at the site was lovely, loads of reclining chairs & very clean. We had take away pizzas from the restaurant & pastries each day & all were good. The site is a great location from which to explore Biarritz & we drove to St Sebastian in Spain one day, which is the 2016 European Capital of Culture so beautiful & it took us only 30-40 mins. Would visit this site again in a heartbeat, it will always hold great memories for us as a family.

Disappointed.

Have been to this site before so was looking forward to a great stay.  Certainly the standards have fallen below our expectations and memories. The shower and toilet blocks are way past there sell buy date. The pitches are overgrown, no grass or hedge cutting took place in the 8 nights we were on site and along time before that. The showers are cleaned between 8.30 and 10.00 am, now what would be the busiest time for this facility. When you are paying top money to stay at this site you expect a lot more than a good sunset.

Viva la France

Sadly just back from our first ever venture into Europe with our caravan. We booked the whole thing easily and simply using the Club travel service and found them extremely helpful, offering friendly advice and answer the deluge of questions we had prior and after making our booking. We decided to book return passage from Portsmouth to Santander to reduce our our driving. It's worth noting that the apparent nightmare of driving through the Santander town on the way to and from the motorway network  has been eliminated due to changes at the port (see Brittany Ferry website for detail) making it easy to leave and return to the ferry port. We stayed for three glorious weeks, with a few off days, at Le Pavillon Royal near Biarritz as it is just 150 miles from the port of Santander.  As this was our first foray to Europe we can only judge the site against sites found in the UK .  We had a pitch with water, waste water and 10amp electrical supply although it was just short of 22m to the nearest hookup, which we found had reversed polarity. The pitch itself was huge ( it's worth asking for a pitch in the 50's or 60's) and our levelling blocks came in handy. The weather when we arrived was atrocious and we initially pitched as on club sites but due the strong winds, swung the caravan around to put its rear into the wind, thus reducing buffering and still having ample space for the caravan, awning and cloths dryer.  This is probably the friendliest  site we've ever stayed on, everyone talks to everyone, regardless of nationality, the staff all speak English and are happy to pass the time of day with you and nothing appears to be too much trouble.  The facilities are ample in number and clean and there's a nice swimming pool,a well stocked shop, good restaurant and bar too. It's worth noting that the  manager had passed away at the beginning of the year and although a new manager took up post on the 1st July the interim period has left the site looking a little tired and in need of some TLC, something I expect will now improve. The beach, which is a surfers dream is just at the bottom of the site via a site security gate and two short flights of steps, one set may appear to some a little steep. The beach is really the focal point of the site and the sunsets to die for.  Away from the site there's plenty to do and visit within easy reach, that is if you can drag yourselves away from the site to explore the surrounding area. It's a great site in a fantastic location and should be on everyone's to visit list.

3 weeks in June

We have been to the site before and looked forward to our return, even though it was a last min booking. We purposefully booked the sit as it was only a short distance from Bilbo. The site was as we remembered. Unfortunately due to the death of the site manager and the retirement of the grounds man, the site was not up to the same standards as before. Yes the basics like cleaning were all there but something was missing. Currently this is not a five star site but could be with a bit of TLC. Because of the sea and namely the undertow I would never consider of bring a family with youngsters, this is in the middle of the surfing area. With all this said would I return? Yes

Dramatic sunsets.

The site location is superb. From the site the views of the beach, bay and mountains are stunning. There is a gate and steps to the beach. There is a bus stop nearby and the helpful staff will provide a bus timetable. A 24 hour bus ticket is 2 Euros for unlimited journeys and it is ten minutes into elegant Biarritz. The first time we went for the bus a helpful local stopped and gave us a lift. The site shop was good. I got confused because the toilets were in a separate block from the showers but once i got my head round this I found the facilities were good.

A bit tired

This is our third visit to this site and whilst we've loved it before it is getting a bit tired. Facilities are clean but the buildings themselves near more care and attention and there's very little attention paid to the pitches in terms of keeping the grass at a reasonable level. It's also a noisy site in the evenings - from the washing up area and particularly from the lane that runs alongside the site. Having said that access directly to the beach is great and the sunsets are fabulous. To sum up - a site that has lost some of its sparkle over the past few years.
