Brilliant first time abroad with motorhome, what a friendly site, clean, well maintained, friendly staff and very help full, beach a short walk away and great sandy beach, the whole area was fairly flat ok for walking. on site restaurant limited choice but we were just out of main season, take away was useful the chicken and chips presented us with a whole spit roast chicken enough for lunch the next day. as motor home travellers we like to look around and not take the rig with us. caravan club car rental partner 'Enterprise' and the sites recommendation of 'Eurocare' were fruitless as neither were prepared to come to us and the bus or taxi ride defeated the object, so restricted to the immediate area, ( we discovered to late the local Renault garage in Nevrez hire out cars) this is the type of local knowledge that is lacking from many continental sites. overall was good value for money, ferry crossing booking was well organised and stress free thanks for your help Caravan Club, Tony & Marje

10 day stay Raguenes Plage

10 night stay on double pitch, large tent and motor home 7 persons. (3 under 10's) Tricky place to find due to poor instructions from Caravan Club print off. Staff friendly instructors excellent. Pool was policed regularly and rule breakers cautioned, covered pool a massive plus if weather inclement. Needs more chairs round it. Site spacious and tidy. Shop & take away excellent for its size. Lavatories clean and well kept. Showers varied in operation in each block, but had plenty of hot water.  Only 3 negatives- 1. beach is NOT 300 meters walk from ACTUAL camping area of site more like 500 - 600 meters from nearest tents on site to it. 2. Kari oki went on very loud (and with awful voices) till 11.30 pm far too late for a family site but happened on ONE night ONLY. Glad we were not pitched near it or had very young children needing to get some sleep. 3. Too much dog mess on path to beach just not nice never cleared away.   Lovely beach and coastal walks, sea/beach was great for snorkelling, rock pooling and body surfing if choppy. Would definitely return or recommend site to others. many thanks for great time despite weather on 4 days.

First timers

We have just returned from a two week break at this site.  It was our first venture abroad with our caravan so we had no idea what to expect.  We were allocated two pitches (we travelled with my sister and family) and set up.  It was lovely to be able to set up how you would like so we were able to have awnings facing each other.  The pitches are a little snug and many are very shady but that wasn't an issue for us.  My 10 year old was soon off exploring the site and meeting friends. We had booked "super pitches" but found the drain completely blocked.  We went to reception and mentioned it and they said they would come and look the next day. My sister electric kept "popping" too but again when mentioning it at reception they dealt with the problem immediately.  The drain problem however could not be fixed?  The manager came to see us on our pitches and explained that nothing could be done and offered us either a refund or help to move pitches.  As the drain was v smelly we chose to move.  Annoying but that's life.  The next day when we were sitting outside enjoying our evening the manager came to see us to find out how everything was and presented us with two very nice bottles of wine.  There was entertainment most days for the children if you wanted to join in.  The swimming pools were really well kept and lovely on hot day.  The showers were challenging but were always hot and very clean.  I have read other reviews about this site and although, yes the entrance could be a challenge, we did not find anything other than good things to say about it, and that includes having to move pitches.  There are loads of children on the site but that's what you get when you go away during the summer holidays.  We didn't have any issues that could not be solved.  Would return.

Two week stay

The site is in a good location to explore the region. The arrivals area is very tight and similar to earlier comments I wouldn’t want to arrive when someone was leaving. The showers were very inconsistent with 1 out of the 4 men’s showers working to an acceptable temperature. The pool area was adequate although many of the plastic sun loungers need replacing due to damage. The shop is well stocked and has daily deliveries of baguettes, Croissants and Pain au Chocolat. There is a small bar area and takeaway serving pizzas etc. The pitches are very small and most are heavily shaded with trees. The waste water drainage is very poor, almost none existent and if I was to criticise one area this would be it, they really do need to clear the drains. The staff were very polite apart from one lady who was a little rude at times. I wouldn’t return to this site but would return to this area. Great food, wine and scenery.

Friendly and relaxing

This is our 2nd year at this site and I would not hesitate to return. This is a great site for families the staff are very attentive. Our Jockey wheel Clamp broke whilst we were setting up the owner recommended a local garage liaising with the Caravan club and the garage to organise a repair.  They even helped us by making an appointment at the vets for our dog. We were on a pitch by the pools and there was noise until about 11pm with older children but after this time if was nice and quite, apart from on Thursday when they have Karaoke outside the bar until 1145pm. The showers were clean at all times and warm. other facilities were all in good order. For the Children there is a heated indoor pool and 2 outdoor pools one with slides, there are 2 play areas, 2 trampolines, sports field for kicking balls around. We had a 15Amp pitch with water and drainage. Little shop on site for essentials.

No security at all, Gangs of teenagers, etc.

I am the owner of the 4x4 with the vandalised van.(caused by children throwing a large thick piece of plastic piping that had been left behind a hedge adjacent to our van, causing £1000 worth of damage). I had to return to the site to collect my passport as I had left my teenage daughter in the police station who were filing a police report and the station was closing at 6pm. I was in total control of my vehicle at all times.... The site owner was not interested in what had occurred and told us to go away and claim on our insurance, she visited our pitch the following day and viewed the damage caused by peering through a hedge.( as we caught her in the act) We also had gangs of teenagers roaming the site at 4,30 in the morning shouting/laughing and I caught 2 of them under the rear of my 4x4. There was no security at all and in some cases people were still making noise well after 1am. Site facilities were poor by uk standards. As for the Electric hook up, we lost count how many times it tripped. Difficult to keep food cool in the fridge when you find the electric has been off for most of the day. We left 6 days early and will not be returning. When we asked for a refund we were told no you can't have one. When I explained I would be passing on our review to the CC. The site owner stated I don't care about you Brits we don't need your custom. PS. Small pitches, Lots of tree cover, some with no sun all day. Nothing for teenagers to do, they easily got bored and up to no good...

Response from the Caravan Club:

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on line.  We are disappointed that you encountered so many problems whilst staying at Raguenes Plage.

You mention that the sites facilities are poor by UK standards; many of our members expect the same standards that they have experienced at our UK sites when they stay on an overseas site.  In some cases our overseas sites exceed our standards in the UK but occasionally our members find them to be inferior.  What our overseas sites might lack in facilities they generally tend to make up with ambience and surroundings.  As we don’t own our overseas sites – we just work with them we cannot control them in the same way as we can our UK sites.  However all sites are inspected by experienced overseas site inspectors every year.

If you do encounter problems at one of our overseas sites and you have made your booking through us please contact us at the Caravan Club and we will do our best to resolve the situation whilst you are on site, as your club we are happy to act as an intermediary.

 Response from Raguenes Plage:

We always welcome UK clients and we are very pleased to be a partner of the Caravan Club.  We do need our UK customers.  Our first customer on the opening of the campsite on July 14 1966 was English and remained a loyal customer for many years.

About "gangs" of young people, I am surprised because for my part, I have never met gangs on the campsite or even in the peaceful surrounding villages.

We make choices as to our clientele, we refuse groups, youths unaccompanied by their parents, we do not do advertise activities for teenagers, because we want to avoid precisely this kind of incident.

We are always saddened to read such comments as we strive to make a good holiday for our customers. We are very available to them. Fortunately reviews like this are exceptionally rare.

Small pitches, good location

Entrance to the site is rather tight - I would hate to arrive when someone is leaving as there is no space  to pass and reversing skills would need to be excellent! Pitches are rather small and manoeuvring is difficult. A caravan, awning & car took most of the pitch so an outside table and chairs had the remainder and pot luck on whether you had the sun or not. Showers rather poor and not to the standard of other CC recommended sites. Plus side - great for access to the beach, my teenage children hooked up with many nationalities at the pool and had a great time. In summary pleasant site but wouldn't rush back.

Better for families

The site was very poor value for two 'old' people - but we should have realised that before we booked. The site has many good points - beach access/toilets/morning fresh bread. On the down side there is very little chance of any sunlight breaking through the trees. The worst thing was that the site owners allowed a man in a large 4x4 to drive around the site at unbelievable speeds in anger because some one had damaged his van. I have never seen anything so dangerous in all my life.

Holiday 2015

Site in a georgeous place , clean and well kept site extra friendly staff, downsides are ..... No entertainment although the description says there is??? Bar closes at 8pm so you can't even enjoy a drink !!! Resteraunt was terrible don't use it :-( The site is several miles from anywhere so you can't walk to the nearest town for a wonder, and even if you could there is only a couple of eating places nothing else , nice area but absolutely nothing to do , won't be returning to this site :-(

Not as described in Caravan Club brochure.

The camp site was really nice but not easy to find, if going head for nearest town, Navez. When we were there two weeks ago the restaurant, being very small and more like a conservatory, was closed because the site was not busy enough. The bar as limited opening times and closes every night at 9pm. There is no entertainment on this site and although we can take or leave it OR leave it it is something that maybe families should consider. Nothing much around to walk to but plenty to do to drive to. Entertainment should not be advertised. On a positive the site is clean and the swimming pool is very good for families.
