Outstanding staff, facilities and site

Scarborough West Ayton Club Campsite
We had 4 nights at West Ayton, and had a fantastic time. Great playground, toilet block and layout. Staff were friendly and highly professional. We had an issues with a faulty PIR, which caused the alarm to go off several times whilst we were off site. The staff monitored the pitch, and reported back everything was fine. In fact, they visited the pitch not once, but 5 times! Dedication to service was exemplary. Many thanks. Complaints about taking rubbish to central location near the office are disappointing. The site is cleaner as a result, and the walk from the furthest pitch is upto 5 minutes, and, more to the point, it gets your steps levels up! Can't fault the site, and the beautiful area of North Yorkshire it is located in. We will return with our grandchildren, who rated it very highly - not sure if that was to do wih the fish and chips from Seamer, the ice creams in North Bay at Salt Rock, or the opportunity to spend time with their granparents! Outstanding, and highly recommend.

A Top of the Class Site

Scarborough West Ayton Club Campsite

This was our first visit to West Ayton and I am sure that we will return. The site is immaculate, the facilities blocks are just superb and the surrounding countryside is delightful. There are lots of places to visit within easy travelling distance. The staff were welcoming and friendly and could be seen around the site throughout the day and during the evening. The road and the path down to the village are steep, certainly gets the heart rate up when walking back! I do not understand the comments about the bins, we were there for four days and brought the one small bag of rubbish home with us. We did have a group of about eight noisy OAPs near to us, hence 4 out of 5 for Peace and Quiet!

Play park not for toddlers and bins

Scarborough West Ayton Club Campsite
So we decided on West Alton due to the huge investment the club has made in the site. Whist on the face of it all is great, we encountered some issues. The Playpark (Main reason we booked) is designed for older children (4+)? We had a 2 1/2 year old and the only thing to play on was the swings. The two multi activity items, one huge one was clearly designed for kinds perhaps 8 and over, but the smaller one was perhaps for over 4s or 5s? A smaller multi activity for toddlers would be great. Also there is one bench next to the park, but no shelter at all from the mid day sun. A shade is needed we feel. And the bins! This centralisation of bins on a smaller site is fine, but from our pitch to the bin area was a fair trek. We dont take the car out, so it was a daily trudge to the bins across site. A 2 year old certainly creates enough rubbish! We mainly rally or use CLs, so expected something spectacular for the price we paid, sadly not to be. But on a positive the site is immaculate, the games room is a lovely touch, dog exercise area is superb and the pitches what not all levels are well maintained.

Great site

Scarborough West Ayton Club Campsite
We stayed for 9 nights on the bottom section of the site. Really enjoyed our stay, weather could have been better, but that is the UK. Wardens friendly and attentive, facilities very clean, toilet blocks don’t close for cleaning, a plus point. If the wardens read the reviews this site is a credit to you. In a modern CAMC site all pitch types are catered for at this site, mostly level and spacious. Great dog walk, even though we don’t have children the facilities looked great for them. Central waste bins and recycling, worked well for us. Good base for Yorkshire coast and moors. Great local fish and chips at East Ayton generous portions, a good Spar shop for essentials too. Overall we would recommend this site.

Regular visitors

Scarborough West Ayton Club Campsite
Excellent site in a great location and we just keep coming back year after year. However, a change has recently happened, which is not in members interest. All the site waste bins have been removed from all the service points and members/guests now have to take waste to the site entrance to the only waste point on the whole site. This is a large site and many of the pitches are a long walk or drive from the waste point. This is no doubt to reduce the workload of the site team. It is definitely not in the interest of paying customers. What about disabled or less able people? This will mean that people will have waste hanging about outside their caravan or motorhome and potentially attract vermin. It will discourage or reduce recycling and may have unintended consequences as some people may dispose waste inappropriately. I don't agree with this policy and everyone on site that we met felt the same.
