Caravan and Motorhome Club Highlights Scenic Routes, Historic Landscapes and Slow Touring Across Scotland

14/05/2026

With its rugged coastlines, mist-covered glens and world-famous hospitality, Scotland remains the ultimate destination for those looking to swap the fast lane for the scenic route.  Today, the Caravan and Motorhome Club is encouraging tourers to "stay longer and explore deeper" with a new guide designed to showcase the true breadth of Scottish culture and the hidden gems found along the way.

The Journey is the Destination

While the iconic North Coast 500 remains a bucket-list favourite, the Club is highlighting the benefits of the "Slow Tour." By taking the East Coast route or exploring the Borders, members and guests can discover a quieter, more intimate side of the Highlands and Lowlands.

Rather than rushing north, holidaymakers can pause along the way, with campsites such as Teesdale Barnard Castle Club Campsite and Meathop Fell Club Campsite offering easy, well-placed stopovers. To truly experience the best of the Lowlands and Highlands, guests can also stay at Melrose Gibson Park Club Campsite in the Borders, head to the breath-taking shoreline of Bunree Club Campsite in the Highlands, or enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Culloden Moor Club Campsite. Each location showcases the incredible diversity of the Caravan and Motorhome Club network.

Unrivalled Choice and Value

With a vast network of Club campsites and dozens of Certificated Locations (CLs), the Club offers unparalleled flexibility.  Whether you are seeking a city break, a back-to-nature experience or a loch-side view (and maybe spotting Nessie!), the Club has the perfect pitch waiting for you.

To help members’ budgets go further, the Club’s Great Savings Guide offers discounts on local attractions along these routes, from historic distillery tours to boat trips on the lochs, ensuring that "immersing yourself in Scottish culture" doesn't have to come with a heavy price tag.

Smart Touring: Fuel Efficiency and Sustainability

With fuel costs still a consideration for many holidaymakers, the Club’s technical team suggests a few simple ways to make journeys more efficient.  Easing back slightly on motorway speeds - for example, from 60mph to 55mph - can noticeably improve fuel economy, while travelling with empty water tanks and stocking up locally helps reduce unnecessary weight on longer drives.

Andy Le Duc, Director of Marketing and Communications at the Caravan and Motorhome Club, says:  "Scotland is a land that deserves to be savoured, not rushed. There is something truly special about the freedom of the open road here, whether you’re waking up to the stillness of a Highland loch or discovering a hidden gem in the Borders.

“By choosing to stay a little longer and explore the lesser-known paths, our members can truly immerse themselves in the local culture.  With our network of campsites and quiet, 'back-to-nature' hideaways, we’re proud to offer the perfect home-from-home. We want to make it easier than ever for tourers to enjoy an authentic Scottish adventure that balances incredible experiences with great value."

Plan Your Scottish Escape

Scotland’s landscapes span from the Highlands’ lochs and mountains to the cultural hubs of Glasgow and Edinburgh. With Club campsites across the country, visitors can explore a wide range of attractions and experiences throughout the year.
