Set out on a remarkable journey from the enchanting port town of Calais in the north to the medieval gem of Carcassonnne in the south of France. This adventure will take you through the rich tapestry of France's diverse cities and landscapes. 

Explore the historic Normandy, wander through the sunkissed vineyards of the Loire Valley, soak up the sights in the bustling capital of Paris or enjoy the vibrant city of Lyon known for its historical and architectural landmarks.

To help you on your next adventure, we have created two itineraries taking you from Calais to Carcassonne. The first is more leisurely for those with more time to explore and the second is a shorter, more direct route.

Stopover 1: Au Bord de L'Aisne, Hauts-de-France (Club ref: P02)

Calais - Saint-Quentin - Reims

  • Au Bord de L'Aisne is a lovely campsite that is situated just north of Reims, on the banks of the river Aisne.
  • The campsite has well-kept facilities including a swimming and paddling pool, a trampoline and swing. You can pre-order fresh bread and pastries from reception for the following day.
  • Visit the attractions of the region of Guignicourt, within walking distance of the campsite.
  • Discover the champagne region with a trip to the city of Reims with its popular wine and champagne tasting experiences.
  • History fans should take a trip to the eastern end of the Chemin des Dames in Aisne and explore La Caverne du Dragon, a former quarry that was seized by German soldiers in WWI.

Stopover 2: Le Château de l'Epervière, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (Club ref: L12)

  • Based in the heart of the Burgundy wine country, Le Château de l'Epervière is a peaceful campsite with its own fishing lake and wooded areas, located in the grounds of a 16th century château.
  • There is a swimming pool and play area on-site, whilst adults can enjoy a wine tasting session in the château's wine cellars during the summer months. 
  • Enjoy tours of the local vineyards near to the campsite, whilst visits to the local caves can also be arranged for you.
  • Visit the local town of Tournus with its remarkable Saint-Philibert Abbey and Greuze museum.
  • Take a day trip to the city of Dijon, the capital of the Burgundy region, known for its wine and gastronomic delights.

  • A warm welcome will greet you from the family owned campsite of Le Mas de Nicolas. There are spacious, well-kept pitches and an outdoor heated swimming pool for guests to enjoy during their stay.
  • Located just 15 minutes walk from the lively town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence where there is a multitude of attractions to discover. Explore Glanum, the Roman Archeology Site, enjoy winery tours and of course a visit to the Musée Estrine, the museum dedicated to the life and works of Vincent Van Gogh.
  • A tour of Provence wouldn't be complete without a visit to one of the many sprawling lavender fields. There are dedicated lavender festivals in the summer months as well.
  • Spend the day in Arles and see the magnificent Arles Amphitheatre, inspired by the famous Colloseum in Rome, this two-tiered ancient Roman monument is one of the most prominent tourist attractions.

  • Built on a former vineyard, Le Moulin de Ste Anne is a small family-run campsite, surrounded by luscious green countryside, ensuring a relaxing and peaceful stay.
  • Located in the village of Villegly, you can experience wine tasting and wine caves nearby.
  • Just 12km from the campsite is the medieval, hilltop town of Carcassonne, famous for its UNESCO-listed Cité de Carcassonne.
  • On the skirts of Carcassonne is Lac de la Cavayère, where you can relax on the sandy beaches or float on the lake in a pedalo. Take part in an action packed activity from zip-wiring over the lake to paddleboarding and water-skiing.

  • La Rivière Dorée is a lovely, family-run campsite that is surrounded by a beautiful and peaceful natural environment, around a hour away from the capital city of Paris.
  • There are two adjoining fishing sites,the Loing and the canal. You can also paddle on the pond.
  • Visit the castle and museum in the town of Nemours, as well as the forest of Fontainebleau.
  • Families can explore the wonders of Disneyland Paris which is just over an hour from the campsite.

Stopover 2: Le Château de Leychoisier, Nouvelle-Aquitaine (Club ref: L11)

Orléans - Blois - Limoges

  • Set on the grounds of a château, Le Château de Leychoisier is a peaceful campsite with a rustic charm, which is mostly used as a stopover.
  • There is a small heated swimming pool, a bar and a restaurant that are open in high season. The château grounds contain a lake and lovely woodland trails and in quieter moments, you may be able to spot deer in the parkland.
  • Just 15 minutes from the campsite is the city of Limoges, known for its decorated porcelain which can be viewed at the Musée National Adrien Dubouché.
  • Discover the ruins of Oradour-sur-Glane, 30 minutes drive away, which was the village that in 1944 was left in ruins by the German troops which descimated most of the population. Tourists can still visit the old town or Oradour where the crumbling walls, the cars and the discarded household items have been left untouched for the last 74 years.
  • Explore the Perigord-Limousin Regional Natural Park that covers almost 2,000 km sq and shows the diversity of the countryside with woodlands and forests to lakes and streams, situated just over a hour from the campsite.

  • Surrounded by gorgeous green countryside, Le Moulin de Ste Anne is a small family-run campsite that was built on a former vineyard, where you will have a tranquil and restful stay.
  • Situated in the village of Villegly, the area offers wine tasting and touring of the wine cellars.
  • The historic hilltop town of Carcassonne which is home to the famous UNESCO-listed Cité de Carcassonne, is only 12 km away from the campsite.
  • Lac de la Cavayère is a lake on the outskirts of Carcassonne where you can unwind on the sandy beaches or hire a pedalo for a ride on the lake. Try out an exciting activity such as water-skiing, paddleboarding or zip-wiring across the lake.
