Why stay here ...

Located in the pretty hillside town of Rüdesheim am Rhein in the Rheingau region, this family-run site provides a relaxing stay with emphasis on peace and quiet. With excellently maintained facilities and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

The site staff work hard to accommodate guests’ needs and although limited English is spoken, you’ll find them polite and willing to help.

The campsite is a short walk from the town, which is famed for its winemaking and surrounded by castles, ruins and museums. You can take a trip on the cable car to view the stunning scenery of the vineyards and the Rhine river. Those with a reason to celebrate should try the Schloss hotel restaurant on the Drosselgasser, which offers excellent food.

Take the train from Rudesheim to Koblenz which has to be one of the Worlds’ best train journeys, the ticket price is an absolute bargain, as you will lose count of the castles which look down majestically upon the train, as you pass by alongside the river.

There is no pool on site, but the municipal pool is 200m away and open in high season.

Zero information

Rüdesheim am Rhein
On arrival at Rudesheim, we were expected having reserved in advance but given zero information about the site, its facilities or anything in the area. So we had to explore and find the motor home service point, as well as the showers. One toilet block has no showers at all, only toilets and wash basins, so the only showers are in the block near the entrance. Kept pretty clean but could be a bit overwhelmed if the site was full and quite a long hike from the end of the site where we were - near the ruins of the Hindenburg Bridge. We never used the 'kiosk' - we weren't given any information about it, otherwise we might have done. There's actually a gate which leads directly from this area onto the path by the river, which we found half way through the week. Again, no information. It would help if there was a gate at the Hindenburg Bridge end of the site - from our pitch it took 10 minutes to walk to the main gate and then back up the lane to arrive on the other side of the fence from where we started. As others have commented, you have to get a member of staff to plug you in an unplug you from the electricity supply, which wasn't a problem on arrival or when leaving. No idea whether site staff speak English or not - I spoke to them in German so it wasn't a problem. The pitches are not marked in any way and some units looked as if they were very close to others. Aldi, Lidl, Pennymarkt and other stores are very close to the site but you have to find them yourself, of course. Rudesheim is very touristy but there are some fun things to do - the ring tour for 20 Euros is great. You take the cable car up to the Niederwalddenkmal (worth the cable car alone for the views), walk 3km through the woods, then take the chairlift down to Assmannshausen and return to Rudesheim by river boat. Takes half a day easily. A visit to St Hildegard's Abbey is also well worth it - we took the cable car up the hill, walked along the ridge to the abbey and then walked back down into the town. The open air swimming pool next to the site was great but costs 5 euro entry. Got badly bitten by midges at night - take precautions if the little critters like you! We stayed a full week but four nights would have been enough.

Excellent disabled shower and toilet

Rüdesheim am Rhein
We stayed for 3 nights in September 2022. As we had prepaid, there was only the local tourist tax to pay on arrival. Reception staff spoke good English. We had taken a small pitch which was not clearly defined but was adequate for our camper. A key is needed for the disabled facilities for which a refundable deposit is required. The facilities were easily accessed, spacious, modern and spotless. My only complaint was a broken chair which posed an accident risk but was not removed \ fixed despite being reported on our first day. As other reviews have highlighted the site is ideally placed for visiting the town and accessing Rhine cruises; Niederwald Monument etc. A four hour cruise to Sankt Goar (Loreley) was only €15 each for over 60s. There is plenty to do and see in the local area for a couple of week’s holiday if not touring. The WiFi is only a hotspot at reception and not very reliable even there. I took the A61 down from the Dutch border to Bingen then crossed on the Bingen \ Rüdesheim ferry (€8.50 for our small camper.) We would definitely use the site again.

Great site within walking distance of Rüdesheim am Rhine

Rüdesheim am Rhein
Stayed here in May 2019 and arrived on the May Day holiday and the town and the site was busy, but was met at reception by the good English speaking warden who offered us a spacious pitch with water electric and grey disposal. The site has a nice ambience, was clean and there was a shop/bakery and a nice bar area overlooking the Rhine. There were two toilet blocks, one of which had no showers. The toilets, showers were spotless and of a high standard. The warden seemed to be omnipresent to answer any questions. The electricity supply has to be attached by one of the site staff the connection being in a locked cabinet so if you need to leave very early in the morning make arrangements so that your cable can be unlocked. The site is next to a large open air pool with high diving board and seating. The site is perfectly located by the river Rhine, and the 2 klm walk into Rüdesheim is along two wide, parallel paths/bike paths, that pass the Rhine boat trip offices and the many cruise ships that visit the town. The path is flat and offers great views of the river. Rüdesheim is a very pretty town, famous for wine production. There are many souvenir shops on the Rhine frontage and many lively cafes, bars and restraunts,as well as quiet corners, museums and there is a tourist office which was very helpful. The cable car from Rüdesheim takes you over the wine fields to the Niederwald Denkmalpflege,a large statue built to commemorate the Prussian victories of 1870/71 and German unification. From here a pleasant walk brings you to a second cable car which takes you down to the village of assmannhausen. You can buy a Rüdesheim “ ring” ticket that allows use of both cable cars and returning to Rüdesheim via one of the many Rhine ferries. You can catch a ferry to Bingen opposite Rüdesheim and another ferry later to Rüdesheim using the Ring ticket. There are several Rhine cruises available from Rüdesheim that take you on a tour to see the many castles on the Rhine banks. There is a 4 to 5 hour tour that takes you to the Lorely rock passing Bacharach town. Other trips take you further to Mainz and Coblenz. There is a lovely convent above Rüdesheim accessed by a pleasant but sometimes steep walk through the vineyards. A charge is paid to go inside the convent but outside there is a gift shop and cafe with fantastic views of Rüdesheim and the river.

Lovely site close to town and next to an outdoor swimming pool complex

Rüdesheim am Rhein
We stayed here in August 2018. The pitches weren't separated by hedges et,c as they are in a lot of European sites, but we had plenty of space for our outfit. The toilet blocks are among the best I have seen in Europe. The site has a small shop, bar and restaurant. There are several supermarkets within walking distance, and the lovely town is within walking distance. Next to the site is an outdoor swimming pool complex with a small slide and some diving boards, plus table tennis and volley ball and a cafe. It is not expensive to enter.

Good location but cramped site

Rüdesheim am Rhein
The site is a 15 minute walk along the Rhine to Rudesheim which is a very pretty town with lots to do. The location is great with easy access to Rhine day cruises. However, the site is chaotic in terms of pitches. Vans and tents are squeezed in, pitches are not marked out and some vans and tents are literally within touching distance of eachother. I have never, ever seen such close proximity, a definite fire hazard and I am surprised that the Club recommends this site. Walking across to the shower blocks is also a hazard as guy ropes are everywhere. The toilet blocks are modern and very clean, which is a bonus. Pitches looking on to the Rhine, we were told, are only for clients who are staying a fortnight. We stayed for 6 nights in July 2018
