Day 1 - Arrival at York Beechwood Grange Club Campsite
Arrive at the site, pitch up and then meet your tour hosts and fellow members.
Day 2 - North York Moors Railway and Castle Howard
The tour gets underway with a visit to the North York Moors Railway. The route of the railway runs through the North York Moors National Park, affording picturesque views of the moors as you travel between the stations. After an enjoyable train ride, your next destination is Castle Howard. Construction of Castle Howard took over 100 years and as a result the two wings have different influences, which you’ll discover as you explore the house and its grounds. You will also have free time for lunch.
Day 3 - Discover York
Visit the city of York today, for a guided tour of the city, led by a knowledgeable Blue Badge guide providing an insight into the city and its long history. The tour ends at spectacular York Minster cathedral with its ornate stonework and stained glass windows. You’ll then have some free time in the city to explore at your own pace. The history of York stretches back over more than a thousand years and includes being a key city for the Vikings. Why not visit the city’s Jorvik Centre - named after the city’s historical Viking name - and immerse yourself in the rich history of the Vikings in York.
Day 4 - Free day to enjoy at your leisure
Day 5 - Travel to Barnard Castle
After an enjoyable few days in York, make your way across North Yorkshire to County Durham and the Teesdale Barnard Castle campsite.
Day 6 - The Bowes Museum
Enjoy a visit to the Bowes Museum, known for its stunning French-style architecture. As you arrive the impressive house and its grounds will be the first thing to catch your attention. The building was built specifically to house the museum and features an impressive collection of art and fashion collected by Josephine Bowes and her husband John. Explore fascinating exhibitions and enjoy a delicious lunch. And of course, no visit would be complete without witnessing the iconic Silver Swan in motion - a remarkable and intricately crafted 18th century clockwork automaton.
Day 7 - Free day to enjoy at your leisure
You might like to explore the town of Barnard Castle and the castle itself. The Castle ruins sit perched on the rocks above the river Tees.
Day 8 - Kynren show
You have the day at your leisure, perhaps taking in more of the picturesque dales or enjoying a stroll around the town of Barnard Castle. Then in the early evening travel by coach to Bishop Auckland for the spectacular Kynren show. Enjoy a pre-show dinner with the group before the main attraction gets underway. Set in the beautifully landscaped grounds of Kynren, this multi-award winning live action show takes you through two thousand years of English history, myth and legend from Boudicca’s battles with the Romans to two world wars, via Vikings, Tudors and more. The spectacular is amplified by pyrotechnics and special effects!
Depart the campsite
After a spectacular final evening, it’s time to depart, but with some wonderful memories to take with you.
