Roughwood Farm
Wow what a spot!what more can you ask for .Canal on doorstep,walk either way ,or walk down the lane .
Water,waste and level spot .So close to motorway ,yet cannot hear it .
Absolute delight,what more can members want for 8 pounds ...Great ,come on members support it ...
Convenient stopover from M6
Roughwood Farm
This review is based on my visit in early September 2020, I’m a single guy travelling with My cat(who stays in the caravan or a lead on the pitch being an Indoor cat), in a Adria Dart (8.3M single axle) caravan towed using a Hyundai Santa Fe.
I used this site as a stop over on the way back to Devon from the Highlands. Staying for one night only.
The site is convenient as a stopover from the M6 J17.
The site is grass but seems very firm, it is reasonably level and provides fresh water, waste, and toilet emptying. It does NOT have EHU.
The site is next to a farm/ livery and backs onto a canal (hedge separates towpath) and is off a quiet road so is generally peaceful.
Stopping for one night I did not explore the area, other than a short walk on the towpath which can be accessed from just outside the site. I’m sure that there would be plenty of walks in the area if staying longer.
The welcome was friendly and helpful without being intrusive.
At £8 for the night it provides excellent value.
Would use the site again and if wanting to stay in the area happily stay for longer.
Access is off a single track road through a gate, some care is needed with a longer outfit but mine at over 13m (nearly 43’) long when coupled managed fine.
Perfect little stop over
Roughwood Farm
This is a reasonably flat field next to a working farm. It's close to the M6 so easy as a journey break, and surprisingly the M6 isn't loud enough to keep you awake. We called on the day and luckily they had space, and directions were given by the owner how to get here. Without these directions, it would be near impossible to find first time. There's a tight, high hump, weight limited bridge to negotiate. Plenty of space really unless you want a full playing field. There's not much around but you're right on the canal with a good towpath in both directions, which I'm sure would lead to some nice countryside.
We didn't use the drop as this was a one night stop over, but the tap has an old thread and none of my adapters worked. Not a problem as i have a 35l container and 12v pump, but i will be going to B&Q for a clamp style adapter! You live and learn.
For £8 it was a perfect stopover.
Basic CL - could be lovely
Roughwood Farm
After a long and hot journey due to M6 closure and desperate for a cuppa on arrival we went to report to the owners before going onsite, as instructed in handbook. It wasn't obvious where to go so we spent some time wandering down drives (and working out the knack to opening the gate!) before locating the house to be told to just pitch anywhere!
A basic large field with no pitches marked. We had requested hardstanding, but these were taken, and one caravanner had pitched right in the middle and spread out over a considerable space leaving us one grass area to park up where we felt we weren't intruding on the space of those already sited. We were happy until we realised they also had a generator which they sited well away from their caravan but within hearing distance of ours so there was no chance of any peace and quiet as it was left running for a considerable time. Whilst this wasn't directly the fault of the owners they weren't showing any interest in what was happening onsite!
It could be a lovely CL as it is large, in the countryside, has easy access to the canal paths for walking from site and a pottery next door to visit or have a lesson , but sadly, we didn't enjoy our stay and were glad it was just for one night!
