Why stay here ...

Viewforth Meadow is situated amongst farmland on the outskirts of Barnard Castle, positioned on a hill overlooking the town with spectacular views across Teesdale and the North Pennines.

The site is in a large gently sloping field with a recently planted wooded area and a spacious open area for relaxing and enjoying the peace.

Each south-facing grass pitch is separated by trees and shrubs and is spacious enough for an awning, ready for you to enjoy the wonderful views and beautiful sunsets. We advise you to use awning straps if the weather is blustery.

Pitches have electric hook-up points.

Watch out for the resident barn owl, there are also curlews, buzzards and woodpeckers. We have our own hens on site and the fact that we are surrounded by our neighbours’ sheep and horses, we will accept dogs only by arrangement. On site dogs must on a lead at all times.

Viewforth Meadow is ideally based for making the most of such a beautiful area catering for many outdoor recreation activities including walking, golf, cycle routes, sailing, canoeing and mountain biking at Hamsterley Forest which is only 9 miles away.

Barnard Castle offers a range of restaurants, pubs and takeaways, as well as a weekly market, various supermarkets, independent shops and antique shops. Not forgetting Specsavers for those with poor eye sight!!

Places definitely worth a visit include the Castle, Egglestone Abbey, Egglestone Gardens and tearoom, Bowes museum, High and Low Force and Raby Castle.

A local bus passes the entrance to the CL.

If you wish to travel further afield, Richmond, Durham, Beamish Museum, the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales are all within an hour’s drive.

Price per night inclusive of electricity.

Please leave the site by noon on the day of departure.

We do not offer car charging facilities on site, but there are several locally.

We look forward to welcoming you.

All the previous reviews really say it all. All are accurately commending this immaculate CL. It is a testimony to Philip & Clare that they have so many superb reviews. The site is a credit to their dedication to campers and wildlife alike. The attention to detail including in person welcomes is outstanding. We agree with previous reviewer’s comments regarding road noise but it is what it is (will be less noticeable over time as all trees & hedge planting matures over time). All the benefits greatly outweigh some road noise during daytime. Certainly don’t let it deter you missing out on excellent CL.

Windy Christmas 2023....

Viewforth Meadow
What a lovely christmas break. We expected rain and we expected it may be cold but what we didn't expect was 60-70mph winds for 12 hours all at once, very exciting it was. The next morning we moved to a pitch where we would be able to put the motorhome cab and the main weight of the vehicle straight on facing into the wind. All this was orchestrated by one Phillip Bastow the owner of the site. Lovely surroundings here with unbelievable drinking water pressure along with a floor grated grey waste access for motorhomes. The black waste looks very new still with a metal hinged cover and hosepipe. Barnard castle was a lovely place with loads of different private shops and businesses along with a backup from Morrisons and the coop. We will certainly return soon.

New To Us, Great Site

Viewforth Meadow
Stayed for a short three night break beginning of September 2023 and were really impressed, not just be a great well laid out site, but also the enthusiasm of the owner. We were given a warm welcome by Philip and were quickly pitched and set up. There are four hard standing pitches and one grass pitch, all are a good size and well maintained. The site slopes towards the entrance and you will need levelling blocks, but we had no difficulty getting levelled. All the facilities are in pristine condition and well positioned. There is a lovely meadow and some area's have been planted with shrubs and tree's, with walkways cut through to make an short walk for an evening stroll. The access to the site is good, although we would recommend not arriving before lunch to give departing guests a chance to leave. We were fortunate, we had three days of amazing September weather, although it did break on the final day and we woke to some of the wet stuff. There is plenty of thing to do and see in this area, and even though this is not far from our home, we easily filled our three days. This is a great site and the owners deserve a lot of credit for their efforts. I thoroughly recommend this site. PS I marked low for peace and tranquillity, this was no fault of the owners, the local farmers were busy in to the late evening - it is the countryside and you have to accept they have their work to do.

Beautifully kept

Viewforth Meadow
We have just spent three nights here with our 2 dogs. The site is immaculate and a lot of effort has been made to plant trees and make the site attractive. The dog walk along mown paths through the recently planted arboretum is lovely, as is the owner Phil. The water/CDP area is spotless. There are now 5 hard standing pitches, separated by shrubs and trees. These are a bit tight for a van, awning and car but there is a large grass area opposite so they feel spacious. The only downside for us was the road noise. It died down a bit at night but was constant throughout the day, but I do accept that we are very sensitive - others might not be bothered.

A Fabulous Site.

Viewforth Meadow
This site is just perfect, the owners have spent a lot of time, thought and money on the site. It's laarge but not massive but the owners have landscaped it with walks and seating in little hidden corners and the views and skies are stunning. The owner is very helpful and cannot do enough to ensure everyone is happy. Its very close to the lovely town of Barnard Castle and Teesdale is full of walks for every taste. Would we go again? Oh yes we would.
