Why stay here ...

Viewforth Meadow is situated amongst farmland on the outskirts of Barnard Castle, positioned on a hill overlooking the town with spectacular views across Teesdale and the North Pennines.

The site is in a large gently sloping field with a recently planted wooded area and a spacious open area for relaxing and enjoying the peace.

Each south-facing grass pitch is separated by trees and shrubs and is spacious enough for an awning, ready for you to enjoy the wonderful views and beautiful sunsets. We advise you to use awning straps if the weather is blustery.

Pitches have electric hook-up points.

Watch out for the resident barn owl, there are also curlews, buzzards and woodpeckers. We have our own hens on site and the fact that we are surrounded by our neighbours’ sheep and horses, we will accept dogs only by arrangement. On site dogs must on a lead at all times.

Viewforth Meadow is ideally based for making the most of such a beautiful area catering for many outdoor recreation activities including walking, golf, cycle routes, sailing, canoeing and mountain biking at Hamsterley Forest which is only 9 miles away.

Barnard Castle offers a range of restaurants, pubs and takeaways, as well as a weekly market, various supermarkets, independent shops and antique shops. Not forgetting Specsavers for those with poor eye sight!!

Places definitely worth a visit include the Castle, Egglestone Abbey, Egglestone Gardens and tearoom, Bowes museum, High and Low Force and Raby Castle.

A local bus passes the entrance to the CL.

If you wish to travel further afield, Richmond, Durham, Beamish Museum, the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales are all within an hour’s drive.

Price per night inclusive of electricity.

Please leave the site by noon on the day of departure.

We do not offer car charging facilities on site, but there are several locally.

We look forward to welcoming you.

Lovely site

Viewforth Meadow
The host is very welcoming. The site is very clean. Chemical point is spotless, plenty of information on hand, easy excess to the site. Good base to explore. Will be back next year.

What an excellent CL

Viewforth Meadow
We stayed for three nights on this excellent site and what a delight. The owner was so accommodating and friendly and could not do enough to make our stay such an enjoyable one. There were sweet peas growing in a tub next to the facilities area and you were encouraged to pick them, there was even vases to put them in so you could take them to your van. So much work had been undertaken by Philip in planting hundreds of tree and shrubs making it a delight to stay. Congratulations to Philip for all the hard work in creating a lovely CL. The local bus passes the site , so it is very easy to travel into Barnard Castle and visit the wonderful Bowes Museum.

Beautiful site

Viewforth Meadow
This is a beautiful CL. The five pitches are in a row with facilities at one end. The layout for water and waste is one of the best I have seen on a CL. A warm welcome from the owner and then left in peace for our stay. The walk into nearby Barnard Castle is initially along the main road until the golf course when there is a choice of the footpath beside the road or cut across the golf course via a well signposted path. There is some road noise but this did not disturb us during the night. Access into the site is very good. I would highly recommend this CL

So glad we found it!

Viewforth Meadow
Finding Viewforth Meadow was easy with really good access to the site and our pitch number was on a board by the gate. We were given a warm welcome by Phil soon after we arrived. The site is beautifully kept and has four large hard standings and one grass pitch, all of which are separated by shrub hedges, overlooking a wildflower meadow. Phil has planted a copse of various types of trees all entwined with paths and little glades with seats. Perfect for walking the dog or just a wander and a sit in the sun. The water, waste and bin area is clean and easily accessible. Road noise has been mentioned, but I can honestly say it is not a problem and at night the loudest thing you'll hear is an owl. Barnard Castle is a small town just how they used to be and the stunning surrounding countryside is largely unspoiled. If we lived nearer we would be back in a heartbeat.
