Why stay here ...

East Dunley is a quiet smallholding set in rolling hills next to Dartmoor. All our guests are made to feel as welcome as possible and are free to enjoy the range of wildlife in the area that includes owls, woodpeckers and grazing horses. Dogs are welcome so long as they are kept on a lead. The site has good road access with no narrow lanes.

The site is a slightly sloping large field, approaching 1 acre with stunning views towards Dartmoor and a wood behind for shelter. All our part hardstanding, part grass pitches are fitted with electric hook ups and have plenty of space for awnings and privacy. WC/shower facilities are available. We also have laundry facilities.

We are conveniently placed for exploring nearby Haytor, the Templer Way and the many walks, woodlands, villages and other attractions in Dartmoor National Park. We are also within easy reach of the coast, golf courses and the many other attractions that are available in other local areas.

Bovey Tracey is 2 miles away and is known as the 'Gateway to the Moor'. It is a small market town with supermarkets, local shops, and a choice of restaurants and public houses to meet your needs. There are regular farmers markets occurring throughout the year and the town is home to the Devon Guild of Craftsmen.

Advanced bookings advised.

A short drive from the A30 and easy access to Dartmoor and beyond

East Dunley
We've just spent Easter bank holiday weekend at this CL and overall were very happy with our stay. It's well located to explore Dartmoor which is what we wanted, it has the lovely fruitful village of Bovey Tracey nearby and yet far enough away. We arrived in the dark on the Thursday evening and the stars were incredible so if you want to see stars, this is a lovely spot! Disadvantages of arriving in the dark however are the slope that the pitches are on which meant that we had to sort out levelling out properly the next day as the side of our pitch (pitch 1) was quite spongy, in the grass, wet and the gravel had formed it's own hole, which meant that the levelling (on the wrong side of the wheel lock!) was hard to do in the dark with a torch. There were a few things to point out that would have been welcomed. An email after the final payment with additional arrival information would have been appreciated with all details of the site (I sent an email the day before our visit asking if there were any driving/arrival instructions etc but it wasn't picked up until the morning after we arrived) for example where the chemical waste disposal was as we didn't see this for the first two days! It's well hidden (which is also fine!) but the sign is very small on the gate and you have to go looking for it and maybe some links to recommended places nearby. Also a mop for the shower would have been great. When you arrive, the drive splits into two, caravans are supposed to take the left side (full of pot holes) but can fit down the right (but watch out for the well). The utility area and shower room are useful(though washing machine and dryer are coin metered). The shower is large and warm with a towel radiator. The light did go out on me when I was in there but a little arm waving brought it back again. Sink for washing up was useful. Small list of suggested and useful places on the walls. Excellent dog walking field, fully enclosed, our demented spaniel found the tiny stream that runs by the hedge so beware the water if you don't want a wet dog! The field runs parallel to the pitches so no distance to walk with the dogs. Recommendation from us, try The Claycutters Arms for your Sunday roast. The food arrived within minutes, was incredible and very tasty. Dogs also welcome.

Peaceful stop over with excellent facilities

East Dunley
Touring Dartmoor with 2 motorhomes in mid October. Unlike some other sites we visited the shower was fabulous and hot. No extra cost either. Devon sites do charge a premium and not all deserve it, particularly at the end of the season when everywhere is very wet & muddy. We only stayed 1 night but would have been happy staying longer. There is a huge dog field behind the pitches and well organised recycling facilities. The pitches are large with good hard standing and wide grass areas between. It was also simple to find the site without having to negotiate very narrow Devon roads - another plus point when travelling together. Dominic greeted us on arrival. A perfect peaceful CL for adults.

Well placed with good facilities; but not worth the premium price

East Dunley
We enjoyed our stay at this CL; the toilets (one gents', two ladies') were good, although we weren't sure how often they were cleaned. The shower was very useful, warm and spacious. The utility room could have done with more local information and maps, and again we weren't sure that it was cleaned very frequently. The pitches are just big enough for caravans to be located off the driveway, but there's no space for a car unless you put it on the grass – no problem if the site owner doesn't mind. The site is about a mile from the Devon Expressway which is clearly audible a lot of the time, and the neighbouring farm or business had what sounded like earth-moving equipment operating until about 2030 on one night. There's no view of Dartmoor that we could find, although the local area is beautiful, of course. Bovey Tracey has much of interest, and we enjoyed an anniversary dinner in Creeping Thyme, an excellent meal. We liked Shaldon and Teignmouth as well, but Dawlish was just too much trouble to visit with the crowds that we found. We'll try again another time. Overall this is a useful CL, but there was no welcome from the owner and we felt that it was overpriced. No doubt the investment in the site needs a return, but the feeling of taking part in a business venture rather spoiled the feeling of staying in the countryside. We won't be back.

Rural touring base

East Dunley
Stayed at this site for two weeks and found it an ideal base for touring as it is on the edge of Dartmoor just off the A38 with easy access to the coast as well. The site is in a rural location so do not expect to walk to pubs, shops etc. As per previous comments there are no stunning views directly from the site , it is though in a lovely quiet countryside spot. Payment is made prior to arrival and you are not met on site having been allocated a pitch in pre- holiday booking. This was not an issue for us but some members may prefer a more personal welcome, an emergency contact number is given should it be required. The facilities of toilet, shower etc are adequate but we felt the whole site would be improved by a little more TLC bearing in mind the amount charged per night - such as a mop to wipe the shower out after use. Although cut at the end of our stay the grass around the pitches and site was quite long on arrival giving a slightly unkept look. There is some good local info provided in the washing machine/shower area.

Little Gem

East Dunley
Just visited East Dunley CL for a 2 night stay in our motorhome for the first time and it definitely won't be our last visit. Excellent facilities including laundry washer and dryer, spotless toilets and shower block. A dog walking area behind the designated tourer area. So quiet and peaceful the only noise we encountered was a pheasant outside our motorhome calling to us early doors. Really well positioned to visit the area. We went to Teignmouth Dawlish and Shaldon just wish we were staying longer. Would certainly recommend this Site for peace and quiet but with plenty of places to choose from to visit on the doorstep
