Easy to find and convenient for Dartmoor attractions

Ashbury Caravan Park
It was easy to find this site, larger outfits would have to swing wide to get through the gate. It was a surprise to see the huge mobile phone mast but at least it ensured a very good phone signal. Hard standing pitches appreciated in the wet weather, EHU and a lovely big secure dog run. 2 loos and 1 shower would have benefited from a clean & spider removal! Good to have those as it was well priced for the area. The view is fabulous when the cloud lifts NOTE: there is no bar or restaurant, nor information room or shop. I do not know why they are listed as facilities.

Lovely views

Ashbury Caravan Park
Great views, clean site, spacious pitches, slightly sloping crossways, owner very polite and welcoming, telecoms mast is close to first couple of pitches but doesn’t spoil views, didn’t use toilet or showers as they needed a good clean. Stayed three nights in august when storm Bertha was blowing a gale and being at the top of a hill and open fields in front the caravan was rocking for two nights! Not far from M5 but the roads to it are very steep, down one side and up the other side with a S bend in the dip.

Fabulous views, shame about the telecomms tower

Ashbury Caravan Park
Can't believe no other reviews mentioned the enormous telecomms tower at the entrance to the site. 2 of the 6 pitches are really very close to it, and all are within the usually-quoted 400m for safe habitation. I figured it wouldn't harm me for a few nights on an occasion, and had a lovely stay with my dog, but others may make a different choice - so I think it's better to give people that info up front! Apart from that, this is a really super simple site. Utterly amazing views of a range of Tors, total tranquility (as long as your neighbours are quiet of course), fabulous phone signal!, great well-fenced dog walk field, clean loos (one of each) and shower, level pitches each with electric and a tap. No dishwashing facilities, so if you don't have hot water in your 'van, it's boil a kettle time. Owner very laid back and unintrusive (which I prefer) but extremely pleasant and helpful if needed (I had to go down to the house to raise him though, he didn't answer telephone or respond to messages - and I wouldn't have known they lived in the nearby house - approx 400m from the mast, natch - if another site user hadn't told me).

We enjoyed our stay over the festive period

Ashbury Caravan Park
We originally booked five nights but ended up staying for twelve, right through the Christmas and New Year period. The site was ideal for us as we wanted to walk over north Dartmoor. Access is easy even for large outfits. During our stay there were never more than four units on site, and usually just two or three. Views are lovely. Toilets and shower were fine, though the shower was barely warm enough. The grass areas became extremely boggy due to the unusually wet weather, but fortunately there is enough hardstanding area to park a car if necessary.

Has amazing potential

Ashbury Caravan Park
As per the previous review we can confirm there were 6 vans on site and to be fair to the owner he did inform me of this prior to arriving. The site has the potential to be a contender for CL of the year. However, it definitely needs some TLC the grass was only cut once in two weeks and even then not fully. The toilets and shower must be cleaned daily especially during these Covid times and a mop and bucket would be really useful in the shower. Another example would be to tidy up the tyres containing currently weeds, even trying to level the pitches would help immensely all these points are really easy to implement and action. The owner is so friendly and helpful and the views are truly amazing it has everything going for it just needs that TLC. I have spoken honestly and balanced on our experience at Ashbury.
