Why stay here ...

Only 6 miles, 15 minutes from the ferry to Holland, Brookcroft is open from 1st March until the end of October. It is a quiet site where adults, children and dogs all find an equal welcome, there is an adjoining field where children can play games away from the caravans, and a dog exercise wooded trail for that, first thing in the morning/last thing at night, all important walkies. Free use of Toilet/Shower.

Set in the beautiful North Essex countryside, this half acre plus site is ideally situated to explore the wonderful, unspoilt, sandy beaches of Dovercourt, Walton-on-Naze, Frinton and of course there is Clacton-on-Sea for those who prefer the fun of the rides and the slot machines.

Harwich old town lies just five miles to the east, with it's Napoleonic Fort (The Redoubt) and with it's many Naval links, Nelson lived here and the Pilgrim Fathers sailed from here on the Mayflower to start a new life in America. It is also the basin of the Stour and Orwell rivers, with Felixstowe Container Port just over the river, and the Hook of Holland Ferry Terminal at Parkston Quay.

Nine miles to the west is the oldest recorded town in Britain, Colchester, with it's Roman remains and Castle which houses a museum well worth visiting. Colchester has a very busy shopping High Street with most of the usual high street chain stores, plus many unique only to Colchester.

For those who enjoy the beauty of the countryside, over the bustle of the towns, there is the wonders of the Counstable countryside, with Dedham and Flatford, with it's famous Mill and Willy Lots Cottage made so famous by the paintings of John Constable. Here you can hire boats and row up river through the peaceful Suffolk fields.

So all-in-all a CL well worth a visit.

Our first ever CL - excellent!

This was our first stay on a CL, and it exceeded all expectations right from the moment we arrived. Roger was extremely helpful, the field is spacious and facilities very clean. We walked into the local village and had a lovely afternoon at the Maybush Inn - a collaborative pub which was saved by 130 of the local community, who now run it themselves. There’s a There But Not There soldier in the beer garden - I’ve always wanted to see one of these for real. We highly recommend this CL, which is so well located for the Harwich ferry... and have already booked our next stay.

Bank Holiday weekend

We stayed here over the bank holiday weekend, it all started ok, being met upon arrival and shown to our pitch. Wasn't very level pitch but was ok.. Was surprised to see more than 5 caravans / motorhomes over the weekend even though some were in the 'rally field' as its called.. It was not really a problem... the facilities were good and kept clean and tidy even though there were extra people using them. There was some work going on close-by and it would of nice to of been told / warned of some possible noise. Then on Sunday the noise became a lot closer and louder, with the noise of a mini-digger and a dumper all day ( till 6pm ) not to mention people shouting above the noise of the machinery.... not really what you want on a Sunday afternoon, especially when no warning was given.... On top of that the owners dogs were constantly yapping / barking and I think because of the noise they making they were un aware of this.. or didn't care !

Fabulous Stay

We arrived on 17 Apr 18 at the start of a wonderful spell of weather. The grass on the site was very wet however due to the awful weather which had preceded our stay. Roger used his 4WD vehicle to position our caravan for us as our car was struggling with the conditions - thank you so much. We stayed for six nights as we were visiting family and friends in the area and had a very pleasant relaxed stay. The shower is now included in the site fees and has been improved with a glass shower screen replacing the shower curtain of old. The towns of Harwich and Dovercourt, Manningtree and Colchester are all within easy reach and whilst the proximity of the ferry from Parkeston makes this site popular for one night stays, many are missing out on the local jewels. I would recommend this site to explore the local area as there is much to see and do.

Overnight stop for Harwich ferry

Used this great CL as an overnight stop on the 9th May 2017 before getting the early morning ferry from Harwich to Holland. Perfect location and simple, easy-to-find site. We were the only outfit on site so plenty of choice for pitching ! The site does slope a little in places but as we were the only ones, it was possible to pick a completely level position. The toilet / shower "block" was spotless and the information "shack" contained a number of books for exchange / purchase that kept us happy whilst in Holland ! The welcome was friendly and no bother to the owner, despite our evening arrival. Cannot comment on locality or beauty of surroundings, so unable to give 5* for these areas, except to say that the helpful owner directed us to the new Weatherspoons for some dinner at 9.00pm on a Tuesday evening - not world class cuisine, but decent food and a great choice of real-ales !When we next use the Hook of Holland route, we will definitely be back. Thanks for a pleasant stay - albeit very short !
