The dog walk
Why stay here ...
Only 6 miles, 15 minutes from the ferry to Holland, Brookcroft is open from 1st March until the end of October. It is a quiet site where adults, children and dogs all find an equal welcome, since Covid19 we have moved two pitches into the adjoining field to give plenty of space around caravans/motorhomes, so large pitches, and a dog exercise wooded trail for that, first thing in the morning/last thing at night, all important walkies.
Set in the beautiful North Essex countryside, this acre plus site is ideally situated to explore the wonderful, unspoilt, sandy beaches of Dovercourt, Walton-on-Naze, Frinton and of course there is Clacton-on-Sea for those who prefer the fun of the rides and the slot machines.
Harwich old town lies just five miles to the east, with it's Napoleonic Fort (The Redoubt) and with it's many Naval links, Nelson lived here and the Pilgrim Fathers sailed from here on the Mayflower to start a new life in America. It is also the basin of the Stour and Orwell rivers, with Felixstowe Container Port just over the river, and the Hook of Holland Ferry Terminal at Parkston Quay.
Nine miles to the west is the oldest recorded town in Britain, Colchester, with it's Roman remains and Castle which houses a museum well worth visiting. Colchester has a very busy shopping High Street with most of the usual high street chain stores, plus many unique only to Colchester.
For those who enjoy the beauty of the countryside, over the bustle of the towns, there is the wonders of the Constable countryside, with Dedham and Flatford, with it's famous Mill and Willy Lots Cottage made so famous by the paintings of John Constable. Here you can hire boats or paddle boards and row up river through the peaceful Suffolk fields.
Our waste is collected by a Commercial Waste Carrier who sort all recycling from the waste and what can't be recycled is incinerated to produce electricity, so nothing goes to land fill. However we do ask that all glass bottles and jars are put into the bins provided as they go to the Bottle Bank.
So all-in-all a CL well worth a visit.
