Why stay here ...

This quiet, rural, adults only site is surrounded by farmland on Romney Marsh, Kent. Pets are welcome. It is a large, well-maintained, flat, gated paddock with five electrical hook ups.  There is ample space for awnings etc. There are several good village pubs within walking distance. Access from the New Romney or Dymchurch (A259) is excellent and is our recommended route.

The site is within two miles of beautiful, sandy beaches. There are various small supermarkets also within two miles of the site. Ashford and Folkestone both offer larger supermarkets and shops and are a 20 minutes drive, alternatively take a ride on the little train from St Mary's Bay (1.5 miles) to Hythe for other larger supermarkets and a mooch around the small, independent shops or take a leisurely stroll along the Royal Military Canal.

We have our own small flock of ducks and gees and sell uptra-fresh, zero food mile eggs to visitors.

Romney Marsh is a flat, sparsely populated, wetland area. It covers about 100 square miles (260 km2). The history and topography of the area is fascinating and many visitors have realised they needed more time to explore.

David and Susan who have lived in the area for over 25 years and would be happy to assist you to ensure you get the maximum enjoyment from your stay at Shingle Hall Farm.  They are avid and experienced caravan and motorhome owners.

Visitors come to this area for numerous reasons and to list but a few:

  • Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway (1.5 miles)
  • Sea fishing at Dungeness (8.5 miles)
  • RSPB Nature Reserve Dungeness (8.5 miles)
  • Port Lympne Zoo (8 miles)
  • Dover Castle (22 miles)
  • Our sunrise and sunsets are legendry
  • Quiet country lanes excellent for cycling or walking
  • Many footpaths and byways to explore
  • Photograph, draw or paint our wonderful landscape with its unusual churches and far-reaching views
  • Peace and tranquility
  • Walk or cycle the England Coast Path around Romney Marsh

A great find

Spent 3 nights here in late April. Great communication in advance from David and a very friendly welcome on arrival. Easy 10 minute walk to The Star in St Mary in the Marsh which was a very welcoming friendly pub.nice walk in the opposite direction to Dymchurch via footpaths rather than roads. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent site

We will return! Excellent site, very friendly welcome No need for me to repeat all the reviews below, so to add two other items. It's a very good base for cyclists. Miles and miles of mostly flat back roads with little traffic, and very easy to create a loop as big as you like. Many good pubs and cafes in the area and for those that like seafront rides, then is 5 miles of sea wall to cycle along. Also worth noting. If you want your van cleaned, (Outside including roof £30-40, inside £50-60) contact GD Facilities http://www.gdfacilities.co.uk/ who are 100m up the road on the right.

Peace, tranquility and a warm welcome

We had our first visit in April of this year and will definitely be returning later in the season. The owners were super-well organised, welcomed us very warmly and nothing was too much trouble. The site is immaculate and in beautiful surroundings with everything we could wish for from a tranquil stay. There is lots to see and do, although we never got bored of the beautiful surroundings and incredible sunsets. And if you have dogs, as we do, there are footpaths a-plenty within a few minutes walk. A lovely stay.

Excellent CL

This was our first caravan trip of 2020 when lockdown was eased a little at the beginning of July. Shingle Hall Farm is only about 30 miles from our home and provided a welcome change of scenery, some excellent weather, a host of places to visit & warm welcome from hosts David & Susan. Thoroughly enjoyed our week there and hope to plan a return trip in 2021.

Lovely beautifully kept site

We have just returned from a 2 night stay. Arrival was easy and confirmed by David the day before we arrived, who opened the gate at the agreed time. Gate is always locked with combination lock which you are given on arrival. David was very welcoming and friendly and provided all the information we needed. We were a party of 4 with 2 motorhomes and were able to find the right way to park so that we didn’t need to use levellers. The location is lovely and surrounding area perfect for walks or cycling. We did a 10 mile walk across the fields and along the seafront, Littlestone and Greatstone. We ate out at The Star (pub) on the first night. It’s only about 15 minutes walk across the fields so a torch is definitely needed for the walk if it’s dark! Fortunately our meal there exceeded our expectations. If you go there you’ll see what I mean! This is, without doubt, the nicest, most immaculately kept site we have ever been to. Adults only (bonus!), water and toilet disposal. I think there are toilets in a small shed too but these were not open due to Covid. We have already booked to go again.
