Why stay here ...

Whether it’s a holiday or simply a few days break, we have a 5 pitch touring site located at the most southern point of England’s rural and smallest county, Rutland!

Our site offers the perfect location for exploring Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Rutland, being central to all 4 counties.

Each pitch has a generous sized level hardstanding and grass area, should you wish to use an awning. There is a water point, grey water waste and EHU on every pitch. Our site also offers chemical disposal waste unit, general waste and recycling points too.

We have 2 public houses within walking distance. The Castle Inn is opposite our entrance, offering Italian and English dining, also a take away service, including various pizzas. The Plough Inn is in the village of Caldecott, a 5 minute walk from site, offering traditional pub grub, dog friendly in the bar area only.

We are situated opposite the entrance to the Eyebrook reservoir (hand gate facility) where day fishing permits are available along with other fishing options such as boat hire. Please see their Website for details.

A mile and a half away we have the historic Rockingham Castle with special events throughout the spring and summer. Our site is ideal for visiting the Fairfax and Favor Horse trials. Please see their website for events and opening times.

Other nearby towns:

Stamford, Uppingham, Oakham, Market Harborough, Melton Mowbray and Corby

There is an hourly bus service, RF1, that passes the site and can be flagged down on the Great Easton Road, outside the entrance to the Eyebrook reservoir. This bus goes to Uppingham and Oakham on the other side of the road, you can flag it down to go to Corby.

Other places of interest:

Rutland Water (cycle hire available), Kirby Hall, Harringworth viaduct, Melton Mowbray Market, Twin Lakes (for the little ones), Barnsdale Gardens, East Carlton Park, Fineshade Woods.

Please note: the reservoir is not open the general public, but to day fishermen only, however there is a walk/ cycle ride that allows the public to go around the perimeter of it with some fantastic views.

Overnight stay

Rutland Gateway
We spent one night at this site and will definitely come back. Spacious pitches away from the road. Water and grey water to each pitch and electricity was by pay meter which is a great idea. Lots of places to visit which we will do next time. We ate in the evening at The Plough public house and the food there was excellent and we recommend. We look forward to visiting again and for longer. Thank you to John and Marie for their warm welcome.

Lovely little site

Rutland Gateway

Just back from our first visit to Rutland Gateway. What a little gem ! Fully serviced hard standing pitches, with plenty of space. Security locked gates which is always nice, and room enough to pull your car and van off the road upon arrival. A lovely area with an Italian and local pub both a few minutes walk away, and plenty of others within a short drive. Lots of places to explore, and plenty of nice walks which is great if you have a dog like us ! Very friendly and helpful owners, we have already booked a return visit !

Really great little site

Rutland Gateway
We stayed here recently for four nights in April, and it was everything we hoped for. Nice level pitches, all with power water and grey waste, very well kept and peaceful at night, stumbling distance to a great pub (The Plough) and easy access to wonderful countryside, would recommend wholeheartedly. One question you will ask yourself in this part of the world is, where to get the best pork pie? By happenchance, I think we found it - Leeson Family butchers in Oakham High Street (and for their sausages and black pudding!)

Great new site

Rutland Gateway
Stopped here a couple of months back but was unable to leave reviews. CAMC have now reset my account. Lovely site, well laid out. Surfaced road and serviced hard standings. Plenty of space. Great pub with homemade food only a few minutes from the site. Very friendly owner.

Well placed for exploring the area

Rutland Gateway
We stayed here over the August bank holiday and were amazed to be alone on the site for most of the time! Nicely laid out CL with serviced pitches (but no toilet/shower facilities). Site is secured (access details given on confirmed booking) and kept clean and tidy - we saw maintenance being done but this was not invasive and didn't disturb us. We had take-out from The Castle Inn which is opposite the CL entrance, bit expensive but good food. Good location for visiting many different places and easy to get to and from. The CL is very close to the main road so during the day there is a fair bit of road noise but at night this quietened down. We enjoyed our stay here and it would be perfect for a stopover if travelling too.
