Why stay here ...

Our Hideaway Site is perfect for adults looking for a tranquil spot to use as a base for exploring the beautiful coastline and countryside of North Northumberland.

Surrounded by open farmland, the only sounds which will awaken you in the morning are those of the sheep and the birds (and perhaps the occasional tractor!)

Take a stroll down the hill and you can stop a while by the Waren Burn where, if you are lucky, you may spot a Kingfisher or even an Otter! The hamlet of Spindlestone is a haven for wildlife, with roe deer, badger, fox and hare all regular visitors. Take a stroll up through the farm to the Hide at the Barrack Wood; nature lovers will appreciate both the wildlife and the solitude. The Bamburgh Bee Company operates just down the hill where Honey is available for sale from our own Bees! The amazing white sands of Budle Bay are a 5 minute drive; stunning scenery and part of the Lindisfarne Nature Reserve. A further three minute drive down the coast brings you to Bamburgh and another stunning beach shadowed by its historic Castle.

The site comprises a grass paddock with a hard surfaced roadway. Each pitch extends to 10m x 10m grass, dedicated electrical hook-up and communal drinking water. Chemical waste disposal point.

Good 4G mobile phone network coverage. Please note that we do not offer electric car charging. The nearest electric car charging facility is at Adderstone Services on the A1 (3.8 miles).

Beautiful location

Spindlestone Hideaway
We stayed for four nights at the end of August and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We found Mark to be a friendly and most helpful host. We were able to rent two electric bikes for a couple of days from Mark which very much added to the enjoyment of our stay as we were able to use them to get up to Lindisfarne on the nearby Holy Isle. One of the best surprises for us was to wake up in the morning and see hares roaming around the campsite - absolutely delightful! It is fair to say that the pitches are a bit tight with caravan and awning and car but as Mark mentioned to us at the end of the season he is planning to extend the pitch area and provide extra space where you can park your car on the rare occasions when more than two or three of the pitches are occupied. In conclusion this is a delightful location that is clean and well kept and I would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of staying in this part of Northumberland.

Pitches far to small for a car, caravan and awning.

Spindlestone Hideaway
Mark is a friendly and helpful host and the site is in a super location, right on Cycleway 1 with excellent cycling and walking. But...... the site is unfortunately far to cramped. More laid out as a camper stop really. If there were 5 caravans all with awnings plus the cars I don't think they would fit! Fortunately there were a couple of motorhomes when we stayed which helped. I think Mark has realised he has an issue and could correct it by creating another couple of pitches by moving the fence in the horse field. Hopefully he'll do that and solve the problem. Potentially it's a great site though.

Lovely Site but Tight

Spindlestone Hideaway
We stayed here for 4 nights in August as part of a multi centre trip. The site is very nice with some great walks / cycle rides to local attractions. It is on a quiet road. I do agree with comments on size of pitches and the number on this site as they were much smaller than the other sites we stayed at. we had a campervan and awning so were not too bad as managed to get a pitch about 3 in from the entrance., However, other people further along had difficulty with their caravan / car. Shame This didn't spoil our holiday which we throughly enjoyed as Bamburgh area is beautiful. We also cycled out to Seahouses/Beadnell and a different day to Holy Island. Will be back up to Northumberland as it's so nice

Peaceful but very cramped

Spindlestone Hideaway

As others have said, it's a well located peaceful site, but there are pitches for seven caravans/motorhomes on a narrow strip of land which is barely big enough for five pitches. We had difficulty siting our twin axle caravan onto a pitch because the boundary fence made it very difficult to reverse the caravan. We ended up using the motor mover, which we rarely do. Once pitched and the awning erected, there wasn't a suitable space for our car. We ended up putting it between our caravan and the neighbouring awning. There was about a metre between the car and their awning which is well below the CMHC minimum of three metres. Its a shame really as it's a pretty location and the owner is pleasant.

Great location but….

Spindlestone Hideaway
the pitches are too close to each other. The CL is a narrow strip of land with 7 hard-standings in a row made of rough stone. They are accessed from the CL’s access track in front of them that runs parallel to the quiet Spindlestone lane which each pitch backs onto. The track runs along the CL's boundary fence. When we arrived four pitches were already occupied. Our 5.7m motorhome with a rollout awning fitted on Pitch 3 which was the largest available but our off-side windows were close to and looked straight into Pitch 2’s awning and the narrow gap between us was used by all to access the site’s only freshwater tap, which was close to the rear corner of our pitch and van. On our other side, our awning was close to Pitch 4’s tow car which was parked on the grass in front of our awning. If we had had a caravan & tow car, there wouldn’t have been room for an awning. When the caravan on Pitch 4 left we were able to move 3 feet away from Pitch 2 and use all the grass in front of our awning, which was a big improvement. I have marked down ‘ease of arrival/welcome’ as we didn’t see the owner on arrival and nor did I during our 4-night stay or know where he lived. The entrance sign had a contact number but there were no pitching instructions and, contrary to the CAMC website, there is no information room. I and at least one other couple looked in vain for the Barrack Wood hide, the couple having been given directions by the owner. The area we think it should have been was very overgrown. The site has a very peaceful and attractive outlook and is on Cycle Route 1 which allows Lindisfarne to be reached via Belford in a 33-mile round trip and Bamburgh and Seahouses in a 14-mile round trip. There are pleasant walks from the site including to Belford and Bamburgh and to the X18 bus stop at Budle Bay which we didn’t use. Terrestrial TV reception is good.
