Why stay here ...

The certified location (CL) is located on our small farm, surrounded by pasture and nestled peacefully by the River Frome in Somerset. The site is spacious and level with a mix of hard standings and lawned pitches. All pitches have electric hook up and the site is well away from any road noise. Dogs are welcome if they are kept on a lead and there are plenty of good dog walks nearby with access to footpaths. The site is open all year and many of our visitors return year after year. Some visitors bring family and friends who stay in our comfortable one bedroom holiday cottage at the farm.

Barrow Farm is situated in the pretty village of Rode and is the perfect base for discovering this beautiful part of the West Country. The village has a thriving local shop and three good pubs that are all within walking distance. A bus service is available with links to Bath and Frome. The site is situated near the market town of Frome on the Somerset/Wiltshire border. The world heritage city of Bath is just ten miles away while the smaller towns of Warminster, Trowbridge and Bradford-on-Avon are also close by.

The site provides good access to nearby attractions including Longleat Safari Park, Farleigh Hungerford Castle and Iford Manor. Stonehenge, Stourhead, Lacock Abbey and Village and the Fox Talbot Museum, Dyrham Park, Bowood House and Gardens, Corsham Court and Wells Cathedral are all within a 45 minute drive away.

The local area is good for walkers with the Mendips, Cotswolds and Salisbury Plain all within easy reach. The Macmillan Way passes through Rode, as does the Wiltshire Cycleway for cyclists. Visitors may also fish in the nearby River.

ONLY approach from the A36

Barrow Farm
Just home from this CL. A peaceful and tranquil site - once you gain access! (We never saw the owners.) The travel instructions should be rewritten to say “ONLY approach from the A36”! Coming in the opposite direction, from Rode, the site notice board is not visible and it’s a long way to a roundabout to get back. Approach from the A36 was ok but the entrance to the track is steep, with a broken concrete slab - we grounded our jockey wheel on entrance. Worse, when exiting - very slowly - the back quarter of the caravan grounded on the concrete, leaving a dent near the back of our side skirt. Only use this site if you have good ground clearance and your rig is not too wide - the track to the pitches is tight and requires care.

Very happy

Barrow Farm
We've just returned from a lovely week at Barrow Farm and booked another week in August before we left. Yes you have to take care past the sheds but just take it slowly. The site is lovely, we parked near apple blossom and silver birch with a huge plot of grass behind Views of fields all around. We did go past the entrance going down the hill, but although the CL sign is only visible coming up there is a large white sign saying Barrow Farm pick your own on the other side! We managed to turn quite easily in The Mill car park, a bit naughty but there was building work going on there. There was some music coming from the Mill on Saturday evening but only until 11 pm. Not sure if it was a function or the reopening. The weather was quite reasonable for us and as well as a granddaughters birthday party we visited Stourhead National Trust, also Bradford on Avon a few times. It was pleasant to sit in the sun on a few afternoons listening to the birds. The owners are lovely, leave you to your own devices but there if needed. Looking forward to our return visit

Slightly disappointed

Barrow Farm
We were unfortunate to arrive in heavy rain and arrived in front of house not knowing quite where to go as there was no one about. We have a long wide van but not an 8 ft one fortunately . We had read that care was needed to negotiate the sheds but didn't realise just how bad it would be, fortunately we made it !! We were the 5th unit to pitch so only had hard standing pitch just inside gate to use. If you don't have a motor mover then you'll definitely need muscles to get unit onto this pitch. We were under trees so no view and no TV reception. Getting off was no easier as we had to move car out onto drive and use mover to hitch up, our worry was that we were blocking access to site by doing so. Even with mover, the hedges around gate entrance to pitching area were a bit overgrown and were touching side of van whilst hitching up. Same as hedges along route past notorious sheds . The hedges were quite leafy but you never know if there's a hefty branch just under the leaves. Access to the other pitches looked fine and grassed pitching area was well kept. With a smaller unit, would definitely visit again but think that anyone with a larger van should think very carefully about booking a pitch here .

Lovely CL

Barrow Farm
Just stayed here for 3 nights, and what an absolute gem! Had no problem with access, just take it slowly (as always). Because the weather was scorching, we pitched in a shady spot, but all the pitches look inviting. River walks and 2 pub/eateries within an easy walk from the site. The site is only 15 miles from home, so we will make this one of our regular sites. Thank you and we will see you again.
