Expensive for the resources

This must be one of the worst CL's I have ever visited. It didn't help that there were 7 vans on site and that there were no hardstands (the ground under foot did seem fairly firm but what it's like after a period of rain I could not say). The site is VERY sheltered. Great in a gale but not so good if you like a bit of a view. I visited the site as a way stop driving up the A1 but won't be using it again. For the resources available this is overpriced.

Ideal spot near Wetherby

We stayed here as it was the nearest site we could get to Wetherby. Only a short 3 mile drive from Wetherby but watch out for the 4 speed cameras on the way to the site. Two are in the 30 mph limit. The site itself is fine and sheltered with plenty of space to park up. Water and waste are easily accessed but watch out when you lift the waste lid if you drop something down the hole you will never get it back.

Handy site

Used mrs Rookes site several times over the years, never done a review&should have.We use it to visit our Daughter.no views as surrounded by tall fir trees, so very protected if windy or bad weather. Also a suntrap if you on the right pitches.Mrs Rooke is a lovely friendly lady but not always around, no problem She will come to you when She is.Has a life besides running the cl I am sure. one comment we would make is the wall as you turn down to site past house does stick out caution needed&a sawn off branch on a tree right by where you have to turn to pitches...  sticks out  a bit... need to go slowly. There are plenty of places to visit from here...Harrogate...York...knaresborough..Wetherby...Leeds.Lovely little local villages.

Peaceful

We've been using this site for over 8 years, twice a year, each time for about 5 or 6 days. Subtle hard standings made from old cases but grassed over and hardly visible. Mrs Rooke is elderly and almost blind so if you can't raise her pop the money through the letter box! We motorhomes towing a small car and still find access easy ( another "regular" has an American RV and tows ) Great quiet site with sunny pitches whilst sheltered from the wind. You must try the Weatherby Whaler for their fish & chips. It looks a bit tired on the way in but the site itself is super.

Could do with some minor improvements

Booked this CL with some trepidation after reading the reviews.  However, as the only CL in the area and wanting to cycle to nearby Spofforth cycleway we booked.   After arriving in a thunderstorm, we found the site quite easily (it's located a couple of miles straight off the A1).   Yes, the signage could be better showing the way to the site but once we found the pitching area we were fairly pleased.    The ground is hard as it has mesh underneath, covered with stones and then laid to grass so drainage was good.   The site is L shaped and with plenty of electric points.  Surrounded by trees the site has enough space for the five pitches without being too close.  The water, waste, elsan and bins were easy to find, although not in the pitching area.     We found the site to be a little sun trap, with very little noise.   Yes, there was some machinery and abandoned vehicles, but these were not in view and did not affect us at all.    The owner, Mrs Rooke called round in the morning to check all was well and we were able to pay her.   Nearby is Walton village with a pub and also in the shopping centre behind the site, is a small garden centre and a cafe with a good variety of food.    We cycled to Spofforth and return and called at Wetherby a very pleasant market town with lots of shops and eating places.     Nearby also is Boston Spa which has a lovely riverside walk and more shops and cafes.    We will be returning - hopefully in better weather.
