French City Pollution Sticker

We applied for ours a couple of days ago.  Our MH is also >3.5t at 3.88t, 2016 model.  As you say, there is no provision on the application for a Motorhome so we entered ours as Light Commercial Vehicle >3.5t, attached V5C, but didn't attach the CoC.  Our Euro category is Euro 5, so we just entered that in the relevant box.

Received an email just now with a yellow Class 2 sticker.

I wonder whether, if you had gone for the Light Commercial vehicle rather than the Coach etc category, you would have got the Class 3 sticker you were expecting.  Only wondering, I have no idea of course.

The whole thing is not quite 100% clear on the website (yet).

Hi InaD, who knows? They didn't answer my question when I asked them to tell me why I was a class 4 if my thoughts about being a class 3 were incorrect. We are a Euro 4 engine so perhaps that would make the difference. It baffles me a little in that it is a pollution sticker so regardless of what type of vehicle you drive it should depend on what class of Euro engine you have, like the German one.

I doubt it will ever affect us unless they start to include cities where the motorway goes through the centre and I doubt that would actually happen in France given all the diesel cars & HGV's there are on their roads.

I was rather hoping the Club would make the enquiry on behalf of all their members and publish it here & in the magazine to cover all aspects of members variations but is seems my expectations were a little too high, or I've missed it somewhere.

Re the position of the sticker, from their website, it says it needs to be positioned in the bottom right side of the screen, (offside for us)

Re above reply to InaD, I have looked at the official website again & am now pretty certain that if you are over 3.5t then you get the same class of sticker as all HGV/coaches dependant upon your emissions class e.g. euro 4, 5 etc. Hence InaD, who is a Euro 5 got a class 3 sticker and myself who is a Euro 4 got a class 4 sticker. The dates of registration on the website seem to make no difference. Had they taken InaD's self input vehicle type as light commercial over 3.5t then it puts him into the same category as I did when I chose coaches/trucks over 3.5t.

I think I have it right.

We got a Class 2 sticker, not a Class 3.  I suspect the difference is that we chose the Light Commercial Vehicle category rather than the HGV/Coach category.  I wonder how much checking, if any, they do, despite having to submit the V5C.

We decided to get one, just in case we ever get diverted into a low emission area, which happened once when the Tour de France caused there to be a diversion in Rouen.  We were re-routed very close to the centre on that occasion.

I recently thought about driving through Lyon on the way to the south of France.  I usually drive the route through the tunnel in the centre of the town but realised I would need the vignette.I went onto the www.certificat-air.gouv.fr and found the page available in English which was straight forward but some useful tips:

-you will need to have copied in your log book(document registration) but only page 2.  you will then need to resize using a photo app.  I found one online and if you reduce the width to 1000 then it is accepted by the website.  My son suggested just take a photo of the log book page then reduce this size(might work easier)

-on the application when it asks for serial number it means VIN no

-the Mark is the name of the car eg Ford

-you can check your group no by phoning your car dealer or use the web page for this.  Mine was euro 5 for a 3 year old diesel car.

once the payment is made you get confirming email of application, then when it is sent, then it arrived in the post.

-this was all done in 4 days so if you are going soon do not be put off applying!

Hope this helps!  soon it will be needed for all towns and this current one will be what is needed.

A Club Official has already explained earlier in this thread that you don't need one of these permits to drive straight through Lyon on the autoroute  through the tunnel.

I just wish the Club would put up a clear statement of the situation to save people hunting through this rambling thread of well over a hundred posts. Any chance of that?

Have just applied for our French emissions sticker as we will be passing through Lyon later this summer.

The first part of the application was easy but when I came to upload our scanned registration Document I had problems. I rang The Club but they weren't really able to help. Eventually found a tip on another website. I succeeded by copying in black and white (greyscale would have done) at 100 dpi. Hope this will be helpful to others who are struggling.

Please also note that it says it can take up to 6 weeks for the sticker to come through!

If you scan a document you can usually use the save as function and save as a jpeg. This will usually reduce of the size of the file to one that is acceptable for sending. I think my sticker came much quicker but I suppose we are entering into the peak season. Wouldn't be surprised if you get yours in less than a fortnight.
