Website downtime

No advance notice and no note of explanation or apology have been given for taking the site down for around 24 hours. I'm saddened at the ignorance displayed. Not shocked because, sadly, it’s what I’ve come to expect from CAMC these days. The lack of courtesy is nothing less than appalling and is symptomatic of CAMC's attitude towards its customers/members.

Whilst having trouble amending my booking I telephoned the site involved, Monday 9am, to be answered by a voice message to the effect that not only would sites not be answering their phones but the same would apply to all the folk in booking department and others in head office

The ultimate responsibility for this fiasco has to lie with the management of the Club!

Is it time they took responsibility and resigned?

Hi everyone,

We are still experiencing some technical issues with the launch of the new system. We have instigated a queuing system for members who want to make a UK or overseas booking on the website. We are experiencing high levels of demand so please remember you can now make more than one campsite booking at the same time - no need to make a single booking, and rejoin the queue.

When it is your turn, you will have 20 minutes to make your bookings. The team are working tirelessly to resolve these issues and we apologise for the inconvenience this is causing.

Same old tale though Rowena .... you posted here ages/years ago about the IT staff trying to sort out how slow the site is. Nothing has happened since.

These issues should have been resolved before the system went live.

Unfortunately, Rowena, that does not address the issues raised in my OP which is not about bookings. Even my very low opinion of the club and its ways has been rocked by the disregard shown to members and, sadly, you are doing nothing to alleviate that.

No it isn't really is it. Many web sites collapse with excessive demand, even gov.uk ones. At least this has managed to stay open tonight for our comments but the bookings system is obvioulsy under strain from too many "lookers."

Actually, in my opinion it is a feeble excuse, Brue. You obviously believe differently but I think we can agree that it is far from professional.

I simply want to get on the website to search for the availability of sites in a particular area like "Highlands" before making a choice and booking. Ten minutes to get on the website after queues; can't check availability of any sites to see what dates might be available before making that choice.

Tried earlier  to get on the website just to browse "Club Together - Discussions" or "Club Shop" - had to join queue for 7 minutes. In this latter case, I suppose it's not important and I'd just be clogging the system when others want to make bookings so I logged out. I can't imagine how frustrated the regular contributors to the different forums must be feeling as they must spend hours on the club's website in normal times.

The new booking system has been put back and put back for months because of "issues" that it  seems that have been highlighted I understand from numerous.quarters ,yet under "pressures?" from above it seems it has been implemented with several serious.problems still to be resolved,

Which seems have come to the attention of members since it was introduced, and even site staff are now not "in the loop" with what is happening  as it is not, I am advised by a phone call this morning as to how the system was first advised to them some months ago

Rowena we actually need to make a booking and I waited till things calmed down this morning. A 15 minute wait ensued. I found I was unable to confirm the age of my OH, the calendar won't allow it and it can't be entered manually. It took several minutes to get back as far as 2000 so I entered him as a youthful companion!!

I then got to the payment bit, hooray! No, alas it stopped dead and the message was to ring HQ bookings. I rang the booking line but it wasn't available.

Will try again  later but was surprised the calendar hadn't been fully tested. I'm on an android smart phone just now.
