Third visit in as many years

This was our third visit in as many years, which says something, as we aren’t renowned for visiting the same site more than once unless it is exceptional! Casthorpe House Farm is just that & exactly what we want, as motorhomers, in a CL – EHU & hardstanding. We walked & cycled along the Grantham Canal towpath and surrounding villages – most of which had dog friendly pubs for mid walk refreshment. It was also encouraging to see that the canal preservation society were rebuilding one of the locks near Woolsthorpe in order to make the canal more navigable. We also reviewed the site - dated 30-3-2015

Unlucky stay

As the heading says we were a little unlucky with our stay at this CL. The arrival was great, followed directions from book and owner and already given personal code that opens the gate. However the elsan tap was running free as it couldn't be switched off and was causing the tank to overflow. The owners were away on a short break, so we rang them and then diverted the tap, which was repaired later that day but put the elsan out of bounds for the 3 night stay, although we could empty in a toilet sitauted in the storage area, and the pitch we would have stayed on due to the overflow problem. The grass area was out of bounds for us as it was too long and heavy rain forecast. Pitched on an uneven hardstanding instead. Great start. We tried the walk out down the canal to the pub which turned out to be closed down! Apart from these hiccups we think that one small problem exacerbated the situation so would stop again as it was peaceful and easy to get into Grantham etc. and about halfway on our journey across country.

Wonderful site

Have recently stayed on this site and thought it was very pleasant and friendly.  Close to grantham canal for a nice walk or bike ride.

Another five star review!

Such a pleasant surprise! A very peaceful site with lots of good dog walking. There is caravan storage on site but you wouldn't notice it from the CL.  I was meeting up with old friends and Helen was happy for me to have visitors to the site.  The only thing that was a little awkward for me was that the drinking water tap had a foot of hosepipe attached to it, making it easy to fill containers from it but impossible to attach my hosepipe! Meant I got a bit of exercise filling up with a watering can! Overall, this is one of the best CLs that I have visited.

Great CL

What a lovely CL this is!  We stayed for four nights but didn't want to leave.  The site is extremely peaceful and very spacious - Helen allows you to park up anywhere on the grass or the hardstandings, so you're sure to find a spot to suit you. Very nearby are numerous footpaths - all very well marked, and with Helen's OS maps, very easy to follow.  What a joy it is to go for a lovely countryside walk without the fear of encountering a field of livestock - it's all arable around here.  If you're fed up of walking, visit the lovely Belvoir Castle - but check opening times before you go, and be aware that the castle is only open to the public on Sundays and Mondays.  One other thing - take note of Helen's directions and don't let your Sat Nav direct you off the A52 - even the Caravan Club's sat navs take you through the narrow windy streets of Barrowby!  Follow Helen's instructions and life will be much easier for you!

Gem of a CL

Agree with all that has been said, nice warm welcome from Helen who kindly supplied an extra hook up lead & a local map, brilliant. Came away feeling very relaxed, lovely area, we will be back.

Returning from CC National Rally

What a lovely CL to wind down at after a hectic National Rally. Some pleasant walks nearby for the dogs and plenty of geocaches for wife and daughter to find. National Trust property at Belton House well worth a visit with an enjoyable tour "downstairs" included and extensive formal gardens and deer park. Would recommend this CL to members.

Return To Casthorpe

What else is there to say or describe about this little GEM of a site? not a lot! Second visit within a month and still coming back> Added attraction this time, "Pheas thePheasant" entertained us in the afternoon with his 4 concubines under the Conker tree, trivial i know , but just added to the pure rural serenity of this lovely place Well done once again Helen, you've got it all just right.

Relaxing mid week trip

It is difficult to add much to all the other positive reviews for this site. Helen & Neil’s introduction to their site says it all really. This was our second visit to Casthorpe House Farm and, now that there are a full five hardstandings, it has become even better. Whilst the furthest pitches are quite a way from the electric supply, Helen is able to supply extension cables to suit. Water points and CDP are all close to the site entrance. The coded gate entry also give peace of mind. Remember to bring a bird feeder as you will be inundated with blue & great tits, chaffinches, greenfinches and the odd sparrow. As has been said, the Grantham Canal is close by and gives a myriad of towpath walks [or cycle rides] options in both directions which can then be linked into disused railway tracks. In fact there was a 9 mile walk using such thoroughfares that could have incorporated four pubs [at Woolsthorpe Wharf; Woolsthorpe By Belvoir; Denton [although this was closed in March 2015] & Harlaxton.] with a minimum of road walking. In conclusion, Casthorpe House Farm ticks all of the boxes of our CL/CS requirements and we would thoroughly recommend it for a restful stay.
