Amazing Views & Friendly Owners

This is a great place to visit. You can see for miles and walk for miles with paths right on the doorstep. Friendly and helpful owners who kindly helped with a delivery problem at the site. Good facilities and a quiet and relaxing spot - and oh, those views!

Peace & Quiet

Peace and quiet at High Farm, Beadlam Rigg CL in North Yorkshire. Electric hook up, toilet and shower. Metered electric, 10 units included (we didn’t get close to using this amount in June). Close to the lovely small town of Helmsley with lots to explore. We also visited Rievaulx Abbey and took a day trip to the coast. Took one of the recommended walks direct from the site. But mainly enjoyed just relaxing in the sunshine.

Amazing place

Stayed here twice now and absolutely love it. Nice walks straight from the campsite. Toilet and shower always nice and clean. Definitely be coming back again, my favourite CL for sure. Each pitch is Metered electric and you get 10 unit’s per night included in the price, I’ve never gone over that.

A great place to chill.

An exceptionally well maintained site in a great location. Plenty of space and mostly quiet. Lots of wildlife, no light pollution and good walking or cycling options. We were made very welcome and the 10 inclusive units of electricity met our needs.

2 night visit in May

Really enjoyed our stay. So peaceful. Walks direct from the site, which is fab as we love our dogs to be off lead. Electric was sufficient for our needs. On site shower and toilet was lovely, clean, warm and appreciated. Would definitely return. Thank you to Ailsa and all x

Peaceful, well organised and very friendly.

This is our second trip here. The site is at the end of a straight single track which you can see all the way up once you have passed through the village of Pockley. The walks and cycling from the site are really good. We stayed 9 nights, it was rather cold and wet for the later part of our stay. However being on hard standing was very helpful. The site owner had informed us of her wet weather contingency plan to enable all booking to be accomodated. Each pitch has metered electricity allowing 10 units per night in the cost of the pitch. Our caravan is 2011 and each electrical item runs individually so can easily be turned on/off as required. We also take an oil filled radiator with us early/late season so we can allow for background heat. We averaged at 7 units per 24 hour period, so within the allowance. Other newer vans on the site that had alde heating systems used more, understanding that they would be paying the extra. From chatting it seemed to work out between £3 and £5 per 24 hour period. We felt the pitch allowance of 10 units was very fair, rather than increasing the pitch price to accomodate increased electricity use. It is clear that the increased cost of electricity, standing charges and added VAT makes a significant difference to the offerings at sites and cls, as it does to our home use. Being metered helps raise awareness of use and a conscious effort to minimise. The site is really peaceful as it has no passing traffic. Lots of wild birds around and lovely views and sunsets. Surrounding areas and towns and villages are lovely to visit. Great cheese shop in Helmsley and a really great butchers. The site owners are very helpful and friendly. We will be back again.

Definitely returning

We've stayed on this site a few times now and are booked to return later this year. Always a friendly welcome, easy access, plenty of space on and around the pitches, really quiet and peaceful, our dogs love it too. Have seen other reviews about electricity charging - we stayed in Feb and again in a very cold March, used hardly any electric and paid nothing extra. Considering the actual low campsite rates and the current electricity prices, I think it's totally fair for all site owners to protect themselves from losing money on booking if folk use too much. If it becomes loss-making we'll lose all these beautiful sites!

Thank you

Thanks to the site accommodating us at last minute and on a very cold and dark evening a great welcome and guidance to get settled. Waking up in the morning to amazing views and a incredible dog walk staring about 10 meters from the van. On return the campsite owner was already out ensuring we could get fresh water as temperature was well below freezing. Yes we did have to pay extra for electric but in current climate that is obvious in current circumstances and we did arrive with a flat leisure battery and in extreme cold. Thank you again for helping us at short notice.

Beautiful location but we wont be returning

The site is currently only taking 2 outfits as there are only 2 hard standing pitches, the rest are grass. The area set aside for the 2 pitches felt a bit cramped and we could only just about fit our caravan on the gravel, the car had to go on the grass, not ideal for the very wet weather conditions. We felt the pitch was overpriced - the shower is unavailable during winter, so it’s just one w/c - which strangely had a full length frosted glass door which we thought a bit odd! The wifi signal was very patchy and we were unable to stream anything or watch Netflix. The electricity included is up to 10 units per day, which according to their own estimation - average use for summertime! We thought this was unreasonable, who uses the same amount of electricity in the winter as in the summer?? By the first morning we had already exceeded our allocated units, even though we didn’t arrive until past 4pm the day before. After that we were constantly worrying about our usage and therefore switched over to gas combination for our heating. If you exceed your allocated units, it’s charged at 48p per unit, (I believe current domestic rates are 34p per unit). The toilet was clean enough but on the first day there was only a tiny bit of liquid soap left in the bottle, this was all gone by the 2nd day and not replaced whilst we were there. (3 days). Nor was the hand towel which was in need of changing when we arrived. These are only small things but for the price we expected better. We couldn’t help but notice that in the mornings the site owner checks all the EHU meters, even the grass ones which are not in use. Was she was checking in case we may have plugged into one of those overnight? We couldn’t think of any other reason and it made us feel uncomfortable. We owed £1.70 approx on our departure despite partially using our own gas. On the positive side, the site is in a very beautiful location and very peaceful. We wont be returning though, as we have visited many other sites in beautiful locations, we just didn’t think this was good value.

Excellent Site.

After returning a few weeks ago from our second (Oct 22) visit to Beadlam Rigg we are still highly pleased with this site. It is so peaceful due to the distance from any roads with the lane ending at the Farm/Site. The views are beautiful, and walking is great straight from the site. We have found the site central for quite a large area if you want to travel. From York, Scarborough, Whitby and of course the North York Moors. Clear stary nights are something to witness. Any one you see from the farm are friendly and Ailsa who operates the site is friendly, approachable, and helpful. Will certainly be returning in the future.
