A peaceful spot

We visited this site for the third time (August 2017) - we first visited last year when the fruit had been picked, then in April this year to view the blossom on the fruit trees, The third visit was rewarded by the sight of the fruit hanging on the branches of the trees, and there were signs of a very good harvest. The helpful site owner maintains the grass of the site meticulously, and he obvously gives the site his full attention. How he fits everything in is difficult to see, with such a large area of fruit trees to supervise. Visiting a site three times is not something we normally do, but we have found it a great spot in which to have a week's break.

Great CL

Brilliant non facilities site set in the lovely countryside around Ross on Wye. The orchard setting is charming. As I lived in the local area for a number of years and still have family there its always a joy to return. If you need an overnight stop either to/from then this is the place as just outside the CL is a large hard standing area with EHU. This is one we will return to. Top tip - If you can avoid the A40 going West to Monmouth on a Friday afternoon as the queues up to the roundabout and traffic lights is horrendous, took us 45 minutes to get through and that was around 3 PM. Traffic coming from the West didn't seem to be affected

Hidden Gem

I really don't want anyone to know how lovely this place is, but feel that would be unfair on Andrew and his team. Crudgingly, this is the most amazing campsite. The walks, the views, the pitches and everything else means we have found a site we will come back to. Thank you for the most lovely stay. If you are reading this, please ensure there is a pitch left for us.

Wonderful stay

Firstly the only reason I haven't marked the "access to local places of Interest" is because we enjoyed the views and relaxation of the site so much we didn't leave! so we can't comment. That said the owner, who is very friendly and welcoming, provided us with a map with areas to visit if we had wanted to. We were booked onto the "top" site which I must confess I was a bit apprehensive about having read some of the reviews but have to say that I didn't need to be concerned. The top site is beautiful with direct views of the orchards and hills beyond. There is a little bit of background road noise from the A40 but not enough to be of concern. We went on beautiful walks around the site with the dog (dogs not allowed IN the orchards anymore, which I believe is a recent change) which isn't a problem as there is plenty of room around the perimeter, a small wooded area with bird houses and various fields to walk round. We had a very relaxing stay and stretched out our stay on Monday as late as we'd dare as we didn't want to leave. We would definitely like to to return. From what we could see the main CL was on a beautifully manicured lawn with 5 vans pitched at various points. Whereas the top site, the vans (5) are pitched along the hedge row nose facing outwards. EHU points towards the first two pitches and would possibly say if you were on pitch 5 you may need an extension?? Leveling blocks are useful as it is a little uneven in places. WiFi now also available on the top site with good service. I would suggest some extra waste bins would be a good idea as the two there were overflowing and for 5 vans possibly not enough. No toilet facility on either site so need to use van fully which isn't an issue. Fantastic site, easy access following sat nav. Joining the A40 from the site can be challenging as the traffic is very fast flowing. Short drive to Ross on Wye for shops etc. We can't wait to return!

'TIME TO RELAX!!!'

Visited this lovely well kept site in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside in the middle of April. The friendly owner was on site when we arrived so gave us information of the walks around the orchards and lakes. The pear blossom had finished flowering but the apple trees were in full bloom. Plenty of places to visit, cycle and walking paths in the forests. Wifi on the lower site and good tv reception. Good electricity supply and water pressure. A shed on site houses books, games, information etc Aldi, Morrisons and Sainsburys supermarkets in Ross on Wye. Can recommend this site if you want to get away from it all!!!! The only ‘bug bear’ was that to turn right onto the A40 after leaving the site you have to go to the Wilton roundabout and go back down the dual carriageway, did not find road noise a problem.

OUTSTANDING

If you are looking for peace and quiet in stunning surroundings you can't beat this site. We were told we were in the overflow area and as it was bank holiday were concerned there would be a lot of vans. The overflow area is only 5 pitches and has all the services of the CL including wi-fi and fantastic views of Ross-on-Wye. Great for dogs with walks around the farm. Ross-on-Wye is only a short drive away for all your shopping needs. I for one will be returning here again if I can get in.

Excellent Site

Nice clean site with plenty of room, stayed here with our grandchildren for a week, great if you like walking! plenty to explore around the 550 acre orchard, you are also well situated to visit the surrounding area. Highly recommended.

Great LocalPlacesOfInterest

We chose this CL to use as a base whilst walking the southern end of the Wye Valley Trail and then Offa's Dyke. Site is easily accessed from the A40 and is surprisingly quiet. Noticeboard at entrance advises which pitch number you have been allocated. The CL is slightly sloping so depending on where you are, leveling blocks may be required. Rubbish taken away daily by owner but no recycling on site. WiFi excellent on the CL. Hard standing area adjacent but not sure if you would be able to put an awning up (space and surface). Owner also operates an 'overflow' site which is some distance from the main CL but still within the fruit farm - no WiFi and I believe, no chemical emptying - need to come to the CL. Suggest that if you want to be on the actual CL itself, you make this clear at the time of booking. The fruit farm consists of 550 acres and maps are provided so that you can walk round it - great if you have dogs. Easy access to Ross, Monmouth, Forest of Dean and Wye Valley. All in all excellent value for £12 a night.

Perfect!

This was our second visit and once again a most enjoyable experience. The surrounding orchards and lakes are a joy to wander around. The fishing lake is a short car trip but once there you can immerse yourself in total bliss, kingfishers, cuckoos, and a deer or two if you're there early mornings,   ( fishing not bad either!) Ross on Wye only 5 mins away and Forest of Dean about 20 mins, plus Monmouth and Abergavenny a short drive down the A40. We will be back!
