A Wonderful Discovery

We have just returned from our second visit in two weeks to this lovely CL we have just discovered. We were attracted by the great location amongst apple and pear orchards just about a mile from Ross. The owners and their deputy were really friendly and helpful on both occasions. We were welcomed to walk around the large site. It is an understandably very popular site. Well maintained. Very clean and easy access. We were looking for a place to meet friends from  the other side of the country and decided to return. We were very pleased that the owner was able to find a couple of  adjacent slots in his upper site, despite being very busy at this time of the year. He explained that we would need to pop down the hill to empty the W.C but we had a convenient fresh water pipe and we found it was easy to fill the tank. I popped down to access the wifi occasionally at the lower site. I have to say I was thrilled to find any wifi nearby, in an area of the country which struggles with Internet and 3G. That was real bonus and one I have not encountered before in a CL . Our friends arrived early and they were able to locate their pitch from the board , a useful touch .  The views from the top were really different from below and when we return we have asked if we can go there! I loved nipping down to buy  free range eggs across the road and there was a restaurant very close for a treat. Great countryside  for a stroll.  We shall be back, as will the other members we had arranged to meet there.

Dissapointing

When you ring to book make sure they actually book you onto the CL! They have another camping area up a hill which has less facilities than the CL! We were put there. If I ring up asking to camp on a CL that is where I expect to camp. If fresh water is advertised I expect to be able to use a hose to fill my tank - not to only be able to fill the kettle or bottles because of the fittings which were for irrigating the fruit tress! Also no WiFi on the top site. If they advertise chemical waste I don't expect to have to lug the toilet cassette up and down a whacking great hill. I could go on, but I expect you have got the idea. When we arrived the owners were away on holiday and the lady who was looking after the site was out. We had to ask another camper where we were supposed to go as our name was scrawled on a blackboard with an arrow pointing up a hill! On the plus side the views were lovely, the dogs didn't need to be on their leads and the walks around the farm were very nice. I have never seen so many fruit trees in my life. Most disappointing was the CC's attitude when I rang up to complain. After giving all my identification details I had to explain all of the above twice and was then told the only way to complain was by email! Why?

ONE BEAUTIFUL PLACE

Arrived on site to be greated by the very pleasant Mr Jackson. He gave us maps of the area and town centre with useful supermarket, parking etc information, also a map to his stunning land. Over 200 acres of orchards and lakes, such a stunning beautiful place. We walked for miles around his land with our dogs, respecting the young wildlife and his beautiful orchards. The total area is so photogenic. The caravan site itself is set out so well lots of space for everyone. It was lovely watching the birds at the bird feeders every morning and evening, also a shed with lots of information of local places to visit of interest.  And the bonus of free wifi. We visited Ross the local historic town had lovely walks with the dogs by the river and plenty of shops to visit also.. we went walking at Symonds Yat a must for all walkers and cyclists. It would be very hard to find anything wrong with this CL site it is just perfect and the owner a gem of a gentleman so friendly.  Will definitely be visiting again and gets my No 1 vote for the CL site of 2015 .

We've just found heaven

We absolutely love this CL Site so beautiful and quiet, acres and acres of orchards that are great for walking the dogs. 4 small lakes with plenty of wildlife to catch on camera. The little site is set out well and each pitch has lots of room, as you enter the site gate theres a small slate plaque with each caravaners name on it showing which pitch you are on. It has a good chemical disposal point too. The lovely owner Mr Jackson greeted us as we arrived and gave us maps and info of the local town Ross on Wye. Lots of places and countryside to see and visit near the site which has good access roads. This site will definitely be getting my vote in the 2015 Best CL Site competition. We will be returning to this site 100%. There are 2 small market towns nearby Ross on Wye and Monmouth which have lots of shops and small cafe's for you to enjoy. All I can say is well done to Mr & Mrs Jackson for having such a perfect site and letting us share it with you. And to top it off there's free wifi on site too!

Great location

This is a very nice site and easy to find. Free Wifi is brilliant and the pitches are nicely spaced out. Great location only a few miles from Ross on Wye and close to many other places of interest. Great value.

A great location

Stopped for one night enroute to South Wales. Kindly put us on some hardstanding outside CL as full but still had easy access to EHU etc.. Owner helpful and very pleasant , gave clear details of where we could walk dogs on his 200 acres . Lovely location and dog walks from site, would definitely go there again if in area.

One of the Best

This is a well maintained, attractive CL has 5 grass pitches set in what was an old orchard. There is also a separate hard standing pitch for a large motorhome. The site is only about 1/4 ml for the A40, however care is required when travelling in either direction, as from the North one has to cross a dual carriageway and from the south the lane is not signposted, being the 3rd one to Glewstone. There is some traffic noise but it did not disturb our sleeping. There is plenty of walks directly from the site around the 200 acre estate, great for taking ones dog. Ross is only about 2 mls away, where there is a Morrisons, a Sainsburys and an Aldi. Not far from the CL is Goodrich Castle and also the Forest of Dean, where there are waymarked walking trails and a purpose built off-road cycle trail, as well as other cycle tracks. Richard, the owner, is very friendly and helpful. There is an information room and free WiFi. For the price of £12 pn it would be difficult to find a better CL, IMO. We will certainly return.

We will be back

This is our second visit to Hollymount CL. We had just 3 nights there last summer whilst on a long tour around the UK. In this latest visit we had more time so stayed 7 nights. As before, the site lived up to expectations. The owner, Andrew is very welcoming and offers advice of what to see locally. He is very passionate about Ross and its history. The CL is within the 200 acres of apple and pear orchards which are kept very well - even the grass between the trees is mown. For dog walkers, this site is perfect. Dogs are allowed the freedom of the 200 acres so they can run free (and keep the resident rabbits and pheasants on their toes!!). The facilities are good. Free WiFi which easy reaches across all 5 pitches, easy access to chemical toilet point and great water pressure. Our Aquaroll took about 10 seconds to fill. As others have hinted, telling everyone about this site may mean it being full in the future, but it must be right to share this for the benefit of other members.

Lovely Location and a friendly welcome

This CL is very easy to get to, being just off the A40, but a word of warning if approaching from the Westbound A40, you need to turn right across a dual carriageway, so be prepared.  My sat nav giving me a 2 mile warning was very handy, but there are early  warning/direction signs. Thankfully, the 'gap' for turning was big enough to get my car and van out of the 'live' lane.  Arriving on site it is clearly marked with a CL sign and there is a chalkboard with names/pitch numbers as you drive into the field.  the field is pretty flat with short grass and was very firm, so no difficulty driving in and parking up, we used our levelling ramp, but I did spot some flat 'bricks in the hedge bottom that would have done if we hadn't got one. The pitches are all in the one field with easy to reach EHU, a fresh water tap and through a gate is a waste/elsan tipping point (liftable inspection cover) and a really handy, high pressure hose for rinsing out.  Andrew and Heather gave us a warm 'welcome' on the afternoon of our 1st day, as we arrived quite late and they rose considerably earlier than us, so left us in peace in the morning.  They were very friendly and knowledgeable about the local area.  The WiFi was very good on the site too.

The field is teeming with wildlife, swallows and housemartins swooping round all day, numerous other birds, including a regular Greater Spotted woodpecker and families of rabbits.  Despite its proximity to the A40, we had to strain to even hear it.  The views are lovely across the orchards and over through the trees we could just see Goodrich castle peeping through the trees. There is stacks to do within a very short drive, Raglan castle is spectacular, Symmonds Yat, Ross on Wye and Monmouth both lovely towns and the Forest of Dean.  We really liked the fact that we were given 'right to roam' over the CL owners estate, which is extensive and they provided a map with their boundary marked, strolling through the orchards and by the lakes was a really nice way to while away a few hours.  Our only regret is that we were only there for a weekend.  One I think we will definitely go to again, as it is such a nice site and so much to do.
