A GOOD SITE FOR WALKERS

We had originally booked 3 nights but were lucky enough to add an extra night although it meant moving pitch, not a problem with a motorhome. Good hardstandings and services. Booking is done online so we did not see the owners but spoke to the staff in the mower shop when the Wi-Fi went down who dealt with it promptly. There have been some negative comments regarding noise from nearby kennels and the lawn mower business neither of which caused us any problem. The area is great for walkers, access to Sheringham roughly 30 minutes through the woods and the Coasthopper bus service is excellent for one way walks between Cromer and Wells. Would we go again? Certainly!

Lovely site

We've just spent a week on this site and having read some of the reviews for it we were a little apprehensive about our visit. However, we need not have worried as the site is lovely. It is situated down a wide lane which is quite easy to find. No problems with negotiating the driveway or entrance. All hard standing pitches. Good recycling facilities and plenty of water taps. From the site you can walk into Sheringham, West Runton and beyond very easily. Good dog walk on site too. No problems with noise from kennels or Anglian Mowers. We really enjoyed our stay and will certainly be returning.

Mixed feelings

Just returned from this CL after 5 nights . It was ideal for Sheringham , Cromer etc . Tidy site , needed hardstanding for our Motorhome. Choose pitch 2 which was ok . Some noise from the lawnmower company next door also some workings opposite. At £ 16 .00 at the top end we would pay for a CL .

Disappointing stay

The approach track to this CL is a bit rough, but not off putting. We were booked onto pitch 2, where it was extremely difficult to pitch a twin axle caravan without movers, there simply is not enough space. The site is clean and tidy with basic facilities, but with added advantage of free WiFi. TV reception was fair - 88 channels! The site owners operate a pre book, pre pay system, so there is no contact at all, which is a shame, but we weren't unduly bothered. The owners describe the site as being peaceful, which it certainly isn't! Lots of noise from neighbouring Lawn Mower business, particularly in the morning and again at 5pm. Pick up style 4x4 driving thro site, dogs barking from kennels, lorries delivering diggers! On the plus side the view is nice, and lots of dog walking in the area. We booked for 7 nights, but could have freely left after 2. Owing to the fact we had paid upfront, we decided to stay rather than lose the money - the owners do not offer a refund. We also thought that £16 a night is expensive for the facilities provided, many other CLs offer WC and shower for a lesser fee and also laundry facilities! Based on our personal experience of Sheringwood, is very unlikely that we will return!

Not for those looking for peace and quiet

We recently stayed at Sheringwood for a week. For the past two years we have used CL sites up to 8 times per year and we can honestly say this site left us very disappointed. Firstly the access road was horrendous the worst we have ever come across, the pot holes are beyond words. We, like many other members pay out a lot of money for our outfits,be that a car and caravan or motorcaravan and do not appreciate being thrown about to access a site. Secondly plots 2 to 5 are all placed in a straight line with the delightful view of a very high leylandii hedge. We were unfortunate to get plot 5 and a view of very large articulated lorries arriving at the lawnmower business next door anytime between 8.30 and 5pm making a lot of dust and noise. Thirdly there is no security on this site as the entry to the site is open for anyone visiting the business next door even though they have their own nicely laid access road which we could not use. There are dogs barking most of the day and night from a kennels just up the road. Having said all of this the water, waste and elsan waste is very well kept and the bins emptied on a regular basis although we never saw anyone. The walk to Sheringham takes about 30 minutes, half through the woods and half road walking to get to the town. You can walk down Britons Lane to access the bus this takes about 15 mins dodging the traffic ! Would we return definitely not.

Lovely CL

We came here in April and again on the 16th July 2018 for a few nights , this site is clean and tidy and set in lovely surroundings , there is a dog walk on site and if you turn right out of the site and walk up the lane there is a wood with loads of walks one which leads to Pretty Corner tea rooms this is open only on Friday , Saturday , Sunday and Monday , this is a great location for North Norfolk walking and exploring . The access lane to the CL needs sorting out but the owner of the CL also owns the lawn mower shop , this lane does not belong to him but I'm sure it will get sorted out soon , there was very little noise from the lawn mower place no more than wardens on the Caravan Club sites cutting grass we sat outside during the day and evening with no problems , as for the dog kennels down the road we did not hear much barking . In all this is a gem of a site and one not to be missed we will be back .

Sheringwood cl

Upon arriving at the cl after negotiating the worst dirt track approach i have encountered in 49 years of caravanning I found it impossible to errect my awning the ground was rock solid my scew awning pegs were useless,if only their had been a mention on the website that awnings could not be erected on pitches 1 and 2 we had to carry the awning, chairs, and table around with us in the car for a week. There are dog kennels at the top of the dirt track we heard the odd dog bark but it didn't bother us,the lawn mower repair business net door was a bit noisy during the day. A holiday spoilt by lack of information on the web site or in the site directory.I doupt that we will return

Very Dissapionted

I booked pitches 1 and 2 and no matter what the site info says these pitches are on bedrock and even using rock pegs we were unable to pitch and peg an awning, windbreak or anything else. Pitch 1 is under very large trees with low hanging branches and by mid afternoon is in complete shade with pitch 2 not long after. The waste bins, elsan and grey waste disposal area is on pitch 1 and just yards away from pitch 2. Directly on the other side of the hedge is an industrial unit so throughout the working day you are subjected to the noise from the unit and constant traffic movement. And just a couple of minutes’ walk up the road are dog boarding kennels. And finally, the access lane may be suitable for the heavy wagons that go trundling up and down it but in my opinion after more than 40 years of towing I put it at the top of my list as suspension damage just waiting to happen.

Choose the right pitch

This is a nice, private CL somewhat ruined by the noisy Anglia Mowers next door. I would advise: don’t choose pitch 1 as it’s next to the mower business. It does have a nice view but the noise & stony hard standing not ideal. Pitch 2 also stony hard standing and seemed more shaded. Pitches 3 & 4 are the best pitches and 5 is ok but slightly shaded. Someone mentioned that they could only get 33 channels on Freeview! Come on! Free WI FI a bonus. Access the site via the A148 main road to Holt, that way you will avoid the narrow, windy road. We attempted the walk into Sheringham via the footpath but got lost going & coming back! Not as straight forwarded as we thought. Had problems making our booking but emailed the CL owners and they sorted me out.

Noisy site spoilt stay

Sadly the constant noise from trucks with trailers and commercial deliveries very close to this site spoilt our visit. The site is clean and well laid out and the wi fi is very helpful since phone and tv signals are very poor. We could only get 35 freeview chanels so evening vewing was very limited not much of a problem more an annoyance. Be aware the locals drive like lunatics up and down the access lane /road and few if any reduce speed when passing. We are trying to stay out all day to avoid the noise which starts around 8am and slows up at 5pm unfortunately i dont think we will return, we have not seen a site rep but the bins are kept clean and tidy so someone is about even if they dont say hello.
