Fabulous location for the city but BE AWARE OF THE LONDON CHARGING ZONE

I had looked at the Abbeywood site previously but dismissed it because I thought its location it would make it a 'bit rough!' - how very wrong I was - we found this site to be excellent - the staff were very friendly and helpful, the site and its facilities are very clean and tidy. The pitches are all well maintained and clean and tidy. There are three facilities blocks and the service points for motorhomes are very good. The site itself is located within a 5-minute walk to Abbeywood station which is on both the Elizabeth line and Thameslink and so gets you into London very quickly and without issue. The Abbey Cafe which is just around the corner also offers a very nice and extensive menu. All in all we would be very pleased to return to this site. However, please take this review with a cautionary tale - be very aware that this site falls within the London Emission zone and so you need to make sure you pay this before you arrive - our motorhome is 3.5t and so on a normal day this would cost us an additional £300 (and be aware that this is each 24 hour period so that £300 in and £300 out!) however, if you dont pay it beforehand or worst still dont realise (like US!!!) then you will get a penalty and this in our case ended up costing us £1000 coming in and £1000 going out - this weekend trip ended up being more expensive that a foreign holiday for a week! This is not the fault of the campsite and I would gladly return but even at £600 plus the site fees this is not a feasible site for us again - which is a great shame. I think it would be a great advantage if the club site informed us of this before we arrived - I for one would have been very grateful to have known this beforehand.

Excellent Site - perfect location, immaculate site, friendly & helpful staff

Abbey Wood site is super. Brilliant location - near to Central London via a 10 mins to Abbey Wood station for Thameslink and Elizabeth Line, easy to access from M25/Dartford Crossing, in the middle of suburban London yet an oasis of greenery and wildlife. The facilities are excellent, cleaned regularly, a mini shop on site, a well maintained site and our pitch was great. The staff were friendly, helpful and always busy working on the site. Thoroughly recommend this site.

Great site for London visiting

This was our first visit to the site. We chose Abbey Wood based on reviews and the location, as we were visiting our children in Canary Wharf and Royal Docks. The site is lovely clean and well kept. It was so peaceful and the area was surrounded by lovely trees and greenery. The facilities were good and clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. It was only an eight minute walk to Abbey Wood station, which is also adjacent to a large Sainsbury supermarket. It was only 3 stops onto Canary Wharf and an easy transfer to the DLR to get to Gallions Reach. We needed to stay another extra night in addition to that which we had booked, which was no problem as the site wasnt too busy and was easily dealt with. We would definitely revisit when we need to access London again.

Great Camp Site

Yet again a great stay at Abbey Wood the staff as usual welcoming the site pitches large and the facilities are spotless. One of the biggest benefits of Abbey Wood is the ability to get into central London but also its location to other amenities such as a large supermarket within 10 mins walk, you can cycle to Greenwich or further into London along the Thames what more could you want from a campsite.

Great stay, friendly and welcoming

Stayed here as a base for a weekend in London. Arrived Friday night, booking in was quick and easy. The site managers were super friendly and very informative. One of the toilet blocks was shut as it’s heating could not cope with the exceptionally cold outside temperatures but this did not matter at all as on arrival we were told about this and shown the vacant pitches closest to the open block. The toilet facilities were very clean and well kept. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely return. Thank you

Rural London access

Surprisingly rural, complete with parakeets Nearby Abbey Wood park has good long walks and views of central London somewhat tired facilities New Elizabeth Line is excellent - site to Bond Street in 40 minutes Or take train to Greenwich and Uber ferry to Westminster for cheap tourist trip. Note is in London LEZ

Disgraceful

This was our first visit to the site and apart from the mediocre welcome to site the toilet and shower facility block is the worst we have seen, we where there for 3 nights and don’t recall ever seen these cleaned, both my wife and I commented on how bad the cleanliness was and noticed faults on the first night were still the same on the third night, given how the club advertises the hygiene this is the worst we have seen a facility block so much so we refused to take showers on the second night onwards, utter disgrace. I’ll not be visiting this site in the future unless there’s an upgrade to the block or a change in management.

Really nice and convenient for London

This site is what it says on the can. It’s a real haven. When you come - do it their way not yours ! You’ll have no trouble if you approach as per the instructions. Once there you’ll be treated to a whole load of bright green parrots who fly the treetops. There are foxes, and you’ll see as well as hear them. An owl was in a tree just above us. London is near and we did the lights on Cmas day. They say it’s quiet on Cmas day but it was rammed - but well worth going. The site is near Greenwich Park which is really nice, and places to eat and drink by the river. Cyclists - do not go on the Thames Path unless there are a group of you. Seriously be careful. I was attacked by bike jackers on mopeds. Slammed me into a metal fence and came at me with an angle grinder - my bike had to be given up. My wife was on her mobility scooter. Police came quickly and said it happens a lot. This group even came back for another go at us. Police said Abbey Wood site is very safe. Just be careful on the Thames Path. Martin and Lin

A good site but could do with some updating

First visit here - like most reviewers we were looking to shop in London. Easy to get to from M25 (either Jn 1A or 2) with wide roads in. Watch for the leaning tree on Federation Street though. Entry to site is easy and the pitches are wide and well-spaced. The shower block could do with some updating as looking a little tired but was very clean and everything worked OK. Good access to the train station and there are some local shops close by for provisions (inc Sainsburys). Local area seemed safe for walking at night Would definitely return
