Great site

We originally booked 3 nights here, but within 5 minutes of pitching up, we booked an extra night. Great site, great location, right next to the river, and water bus runs from outside the rear gate, Thursday to Sunday straight in to the centre of Bristol. The Cottage Inn, a two minute stroll is a good local, well kept beer, can’t comment on the food, too many other places to eat, so never made it. The Underfall Cafe is an easy 10 minute stroll, and has wonderful views up the river towards Bristol. The wardens, Andrew and Diane, work very hard to keep the site lovely and neat, and they were very helpful with any queries we had about where to eat and best places to visit. We will be visiting again, only just scratched the surface of this lovely city.

A delightful site and amazing location.

The location of this relatively compact site more than makes up for the aging facilities. The site wardens, Dianne and Andrew (both of whom are very welcoming and friendly) keep the site clean and tidy. Bristol is a fabulous city, the centre of which is within easy walking distance around the historic harbour frontage. If you don't mind some road noise during the day or the occasional sound of sirens at night (it's a city, after all) this delightful site and amazing location will not disappoint.

Baltic Wharf September 2023

This is a wonderful site in the heart of the city, there are bus stops outside the site and the Harbour Ferry stopping at bthe back of the site. The wardens work like trojans to keep the site clean, welcoming and tidy. There are a couple of problems, both beyond the control of the club. Firstly the neighbours, these are a pub, The Cottage, and the sailing club. The Cottage run discos at the weekend with the music at full volume until almost midnight. The sailing club run regattas when they turn the PA system up to full volume for anythinjg upto 6 hours. The second problem area is with Bristol and Bristol council. We have stayed on the site a number of times and Bristol was always a nice place to walk round, now however it is full of gangs of beggers, homeless groups and drug addicts looking for their next fix or sleeping off then last one, these are the comments of the locals we spoke to. Bristol council has become an anti-car council. They close roads to anything but bicycles and do not put diversion signs up, they seem to have that attitude 'if you are local you will know the way round, if you are not why are you trying to get there?' My sat nav is now lying in a dark room crying. The site is brilliant but be aware of these problems if you are planning to go there.

Little gem

Lovely little site in the middle of a vibrant city. Not the prettiest in terms of greenery but staff and facilities make up the shortfall. Easy walk along the river to shops and far too many eateries and pubs! Think this site’s days are numbered if current information is to be believed. Such a pity. Shame CAMC don’t have more sites like this.

Long may it remain

Whilst this is not the easiest of sites to access, it is worth it, just make sure you follow the map and detailed directions information from the club. We use the site for visiting family, but you have the added bonus of all that Bristol has to offer and a riverside location. The wardens, Andrew and Diane, were visibly working hard to maintain the site standards despite the forewarned closure of the site. Let’s hope Bristol has a change of heart and allows the club to remain

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

A pitch here is like living in a Bristol Harbour apartment. Loads to see and do easily. We used the local busses to go to:- -Into town -Weston S Mare. -Clevedon - Up to Clifton and the suspension bridge by bus and walk back via the Zig Zag path to the Avon Gorge bottom and then to the site. Just Magic.

Glad to get away.

Like coming home !! Bit construction noise this time, but not a problem. Surprised to see empty pitches.yes toilet block a bit tired and I miss shower curtains but its so much more than just a pitch for the night. Bristol has so many places to see we always seem to say we will get to something else next time. The council still don't seem to realise what an asset this place is. The amount to time and money we have spent over the years isn't something we think about !! You can take your pick of empty flats for sale walking into city, yet more being built. Leave this site alone !! One more trip booked hope its not last one.

Excellent site brilliantly located in the centre of Bristol

We have only had a motorhome since the end of March and have already stayed at this site three times. We live in Bristol but have let out our house while we travel, so this has been a great place to stay when we have been wanting to be in the city for one reason or another. You couldn't be in a better location, with the centre of the city a short walk away, some great pubs and restaurants close by and the river literally on the doorstep - including the SS Great Britain being only a couple of minutes away. The staff are friendly and welcoming and all the usual Caravan Club facilities are available.

Great site, but getting expensive.

We've stayed here multiple times, and we enjoy the unique location on Spike Island with The Avon to the front of the site, and Baltic Wharf to the rear. My partners son lives in Bristol, so the site has proved very convenient for us. However, the cost now of staying on CAMC sites is getting very expensive. Our 3 x nights in May cost us £145 ........just over £48 per night. It gets more expensive over the Summer months, obviously. Don't get me wrong, we're not suddenly going to stop attending because of the expense - we're lucky, we can afford it, but I think a lot of people will not be attending the Club sites as much. At the end of the day, the facilities are basic, though very clean. I just wonder, if and when the cost of electricity & gas eventually reduces (one can hope), then will the Club reduces their expensive fees accordingly? We booked in advance, a boat trip, from Baltic Wharf to Avonmouth. I've always wanted to do this, if only to go through the locks out of the Wharf, and into the Avon. It was an amazing trip. Our boat was was followed through the lock system by the replica galleon, The Matthew. We waited around in the Wharf, until the first bridge (Junction Swing Bridge) opened, and allowed entry into the Cumberland Basin. Then we had to wait around the Basin until the second Swing Bridge opened, The Plimsol Swing Bridge (Brunel Way), and that was a great experience to behold, with the road alarms going off then witnessing the traffic coming to a halt. Quite a crowd gathered to witness The Matthew sail through into the lock, with our boat. Once in the lock, and the gates closed behind you, the rate at which the water was pumped out was phenomenal. Then, when at the same level as the Avon, the front gates opened, and we were off up the Avon, on our way to Avonmouth. A trip that lasted around 3.1/2 hours, with great commentary along the way, all for £23. Fantastic value. You must try this trip at least once ! As already been stated on here, the wardens at Baltic Wharf are lovely, helpful & hard working. Just a tip when selecting your pitch, if you select a pitch next door to the Sailing Club, it will get noisy of a weekend, as they are active very early ! We will be back of course, and hopefully the site will stay open beyond 2023. You wonder, with the way the economy has gone, with the cost of everything spiralling up, whether the Council has delayed the building of apartments on the Club site because of increased costs ? And, as someone pointed out on here, there are quite a few apartments already up for sale.
