One Night Stopover

We stayed one night here on our way up to Scotland. The site was in a lovely location and we were glad to be able to stretch our legs with a walk in the country park after a long journey. the facilities were very clean and the pitch was lovely and big. Enjoyed the steam train going past and we were blessed with lovely weather so could just sit out and relax.

Stop over

Nice site clean and tidy we only stayed one night on our way north. I used my satnav to the site which took me by the woodhill road to the next right turn Hunstanton Drive which apart from a way traffic slowing measures was not a problem. PS if you have the family china in the van make sure its safe the last 300 yds will test it out. We used the pub outside the main gate to eat that night found the food rushed a little everything could of done with another minute we think it was very busy that night (Saturday) also with it being a small bar and 3 dogs eyeing up my mixed grill it was not a pleasant experience.

Great location

This was our 1st visit here for the Bank Holiday weekend. A very warm welcome from the wardens. Site tidy and clean. We enjoyed watching the steam train passing through and also travelled on it a couple of times. Really handy having the pub The Brown Cow right next door and we ate in there a couple of times. Food was lovely and good value. One of the most dog friendliest pubs we have ever been in. We will definitely be returning to this site

Peaceful place

Stayed here for 7 nights. Enjoyed the tranquillity, even the occasional passing train seemed in place. Unseasonal heavy rain changed our plans. We found all facilities up to club standards and every staff member was cheerful and pleasant despite the weather. We enjoyed this visit and will come again.

Great site

We had a short stay here. The staff were very friendly and the site was very tidy and clean. Lovely warm showers. Out dog loved the walks around the country park and we followed the history trail. There were free activities at the sunnywood project a very short walk from the site. The staff were lovely to talk too and explained their work in the community. The pubs were both dog friendly and we a drink in both! The steam train that passes by was an added bonus although the first toot made our dog jump. We will definitely be visiting again.

A lovely site

This site has a lot going for it. Not least seeing the steam trains which run at weekends. And its proximity to Bury (walking distance). A lengthy visit would be required to attempt to explore all the footpaths which start close to the site entrance, including (but not only) those along the Irwell. The hard-working wardens/managers couldn't be more helpful and friendly although, sadly for visitors here, they will be working elsewhere in the network next year. (This site's loss will be another site's gain.)

Brilliant Site

The site was absolutely amazing so quiet and situated in lovely countryside it has the East Lancs Railway running past it we didn't see the Steam train this time but next year we will definitely make a point of going on it. The facilities are very clean and tidy and the staff are always around if you need any help. We went for a meal at the Brown Cow Pub at the entrance to the site but I would prebook if you would like an evening meal as it does get very busy also next to it is the Lamppost Cafe if you would like a cooked breakfast or snacks. The Country Park is amazing with beautiful scenery ,riverside walks, sculptures and water you can even paddle in ,it was wonderful.

Brilliant Site but circus was in town!

As complete newbies to camping again after an absence of many years, our visit here was to primarily ensure that we knew how to assemble all our equipment and that we hadn’t forgot anything! This site is very local to us so it would be handy to nip home should we need to. Anyway, our first trip was excellent - the staff were so helpful and friendly. Despite the circus being in the next field and was noisy in the later afternoon and evenings, it certainly didn’t detract from us from our visit - you got used to it! In the end we were having such a great time that we ended up staying an additional night. Everywhere was so neat and tidy - toilets and shower blocks were spotless. We never saw any litter anywhere either. Good spacing out between pitches and it was delight to join fellow campers waving to Steam Train which passes by now and then. We did not use the Steam Train this time, despite there being a station at the rear of the site but we will certainly doing so upon our next return. membership offers discounts on tickets. Overall a delight to stay there and will be returning very soon as it is very safe to bring the grandchildren too - lots for then to do.

Superb site, great location

This is a first class site, the facilities are outstanding, everything looks very new. Outside of weekends the site was very quiet while we were there, which made for a very restful holiday. The country park and heritage railway are adjacent, plus there's a pub and cafe just outside the entrance barrier! The park offers lots of nice walks and lots of old industrial history. The River Irwell runs through the park, the riverside walks in both directions are well worth doing. The site gives easy access to Bury - don't miss the market - or head north and you're immediately in the Pennines with lots of great walking countryside. Holcombe Hill and Peel Monument makes a nice walk, with great views.

Lovely spot

We only managed to spend a few days at this lovely site on our way to Scotland and on our return but we will certainly make another visit. We were greeted by a super friendly team of wardens who clearly have great pride in their site. An added bonus for those with dogs is the super dog wash which makes it easy to clean off muddy paws. We enjoyed watching the steam trains that run past the site. If only some selfish dog owners would pick up their dog poo it would make life much more pleasant for everyone.
