First visit

Just home from our first visit to this site which was recommended by friends and I can't say we were disappointed. It's was excellent, very clean & tidy. Wardens were friendly, chatty and helpful and we were checked in quickly and efficiently. We were with a group of 12 friends and although we weren't able to pitch next to each other, we were all in easy walking distance to be able to get to together for breakfast & coffee.  We ventured into Cambridge by bus on Saturday, the bus stop being easily accessible less than a mile from the site. Lots to do in & around the city and the site. Will definitely return at some point.

Ideal site for Cambridge

This was our tenth stay as we came to either deliver or collect our son from university. The staff are always friendly and the very good facilities are always clean. Easy access to Cambridge either by road or bus with good local facilities of shops and some decent places to eat. Our stays tend to be only one or two nights but we would be happy to stay for longer. The site is quite compact compared to the more rural club sites, but that is to be expected in a city site.

Cherry Hinton Trip

This was our second trip away this year and we thought we would trial a few bits that we've bought so Cherry Hinton (on our list to visit) was the choice. Following the handbooks suggested route was fine, few twists, turns and bumps in the road but no issues at all.  Upon arrival we were meet by the wardens who I must say I thought were fantastic. They were organised, approachable and ran the site brilliantly. The facilities were VERY clean and tidy. One excellent little touch I though was having the radio on in the toilets. It's an idea and something all sites should look to do.  Whilst walking around the site we noticed some of the pitches were very tight in regards to turning and general manoeuvring so if you don't have a motor mover it might  be complicated to get into position.  The site was peaceful and relaxing however sadly didn't have much for young kids to do  which was a shame. If you want a relaxing and peaceful break then I'd recommend it however if you have young children and don't want to leave the site then I'd suggest going elsewhere.

Small Pitches

We arrived at site with our caravan at about 6.30pm There are three barriers facing you. One is for use by vehicles returning to the site, one wider one for outfits leaving and a similar wider one for new arrivals. I pulled up to the new arrivals barrier. The warden came out, told me where my pitch was, gave me a card to operate the barrier and then told me to reverse away from the new arrivals barrier and enter via the returning vehicles barrier using the card. He took my membership card from me and said that we could settle up tomorrow.. It was not a simple task to reverse back and the only apparent reason for me doing so was so that he wouldn't have to open the office to take my payment and open the new arrivals barrier! When we drove to our pitch (Number 6) I sited the caravan using our motor mover. If we didn't have one it would have been very difficult given the narrow nature of the access road, the narrow pitch and the fact that there was an enclosed refuse area opposite the pitch. Having moved the caravan to the extreme edge of the pitch I put our vehicle on the opposite edge. there was only 3-4 feet between the caravan and our vehicle. Also with the caravan being on the edge of the pitch I could not place either the fresh water barrel nor the grey waste container properly flat on the ground as there was steeply sloping grass abutting that edge of the pitch. It meant that on a couple of occasions I nearly slipped over on the sloping grass when tending to the water containers. I definitely would not have been able to get the caravan off the pitch due to the enclosed refuse area opposite if I hadn't had a motor mover. When booking I filled in the length of mu caravan and I would imagine that anyone with a similar sized vehicle would have had the same problems as me. The pitch was only really suitable for a motorhome. I feel strongly that that the Caravan Club should check how the pitches are allocated because I could have been in serious difficulties. The washrooms on the site are excellent. We found them clean and warm. If I return I will definitely try to phone and book a pitch that is suitable for my outfit and hope that I might get a warmer welcome

Great site

Site great as usual. Love the radio 2 in the toilet block which are very smart and clean. Short walk for buses in to Cambridge, local pub and takeaways and small shops close by as well. If we need to visit Cambridge again will certainly be back. Site entrance will be difficult if caravans meet, hence the 1pm arrivals time.

Another nice visit.....

As we are all different, we all have different views of an experience; therefore…Towing and access to the site is easy – follow the online directions (From the A14, go via Gazelle Way and past Tesco’s) and it really is an easy tow. Care needed as you approach the site but providing you are not entering before 1PM it really is not an issue. You will find a warm welcome, in conjunction with a practical approach (walk and view available pitches and choose) to entering the site; as it is an old quarry and there is no circular route. However, it is easy to quickly view, choose and gain access to your pitch – providing you can drive. Facilities are to the normal standard, a nice dog walk at the quarry opposite the site entrance; plus the Robin Hood pub, Chinese, Indian and pizza takeaways are all a ten minute walk should this be your desire. This is an all year site; so, when it rains there will be the challenges that rain and grass brings. To conclude, a very nice site, with friendly wardens (a credit to the site) – an easy tow, but do take note “Do not arrive before 1PM

A great escape

This site is a little gem, it's proximity to Cambridge makes it ideal for a winter visit, when you need more indoor pursuits to visit and its closeness to public transport is excellent. As two oldies we used the park and ride just down the lane, so parked for £1 and then the bus for free. The facilities were immaculate as expected and nice and warm. useful when some of the outside taps froze on a couple of mornings! It says in the blurb TV reception poor, this was not our experience as we got a good signal even though we were in the deepest part of the quarry. One to return too and only 2.5hrs from home

Great Site for City Break

My family and I (2 children aged 11 and 14) stayed here for a week over half term. To be honest - I can't really fault it. The staff were friendly and SUPER helpful. Facilities absolutely spotless (and believe me - I'm fussy!), and it's easy to get into the city on the bus. There are plenty of shops for essentials and takeaways nearby as well. Maybe young families might yearn for more entertainment - but we all had a great time.

Great Start to the Season

We only live half an hour away, but we always use Cherry Hinton as our first visit of the season to check the caravan has wintered well. The staff are very friendly and efficient and the toilet block was spotless, as usual and kept to a good temperature. Ideal for frosty mornings. Cherry Hinton center is only a 15 min easy walk away with a good selection of shops, pubs and take-aways. It also has a great bakers. Maybe not a site for children, but with Cherry Hinton play park and the Hall close by this may not be a problem. Excellent few days away. Maybe we should visit more often!!

Super camp site

We've just had our second stay at Cherry Hinton. We use the campsite for our campervan and then get the bus (frequent no.1 & 3 buses to centre of Cambridge from bus stop 5 minutes walk away) to see our daughter and our new grandchild. Very easy and convenient and a lot cheaper than staying in a B & B / hotel (v expensive in Cambridge!). Robin Hood pub 5 minutes walk away - i.e. good value cooked breakfast between 10.00am and midday - only £10 for two including toast and coffee! We can't fault the friendly staff and facilities. They have thought of everything with the excellent loo block with the temperature always cosy (v welcome in the cold weather), constant hot water and hooks in abundance on doors etc. Large plots, good waste facilities, drinking water, hook up etc. Not really a site to keep young children entertained but that's not we look for here. You'd be hard pushed to find a better site overall.
