Lovely, peaceful site

We came home yesterday after a week at this site. Lovely site, beautifully maintained with friendly, helpful wardens and some of the best and cleanest loos and showers we have seen. We also saw where some foolish people had driven over the grass areas - and absolutely ruined them. The wardens were working so hard to repair and restore them for the weekend. It isn't necessary as the access roads are very adequate. Fantastic location overlooking Carsington Water. We hired bikes from the visitors centre and had a great morning whizzing round the lake (electric bikes!). Severn Trent water can be proud of how they have turned this area into such an attractive facility. Close to Dovedale, Matlock and Bakewell and not far from Buxton. Great walking in the area - the Tissington trail has wonderful views across the countryside. And Tissington village well worth a visit. Best fish and chips from market square in Ashbourne, but struggled to find local beers in the pubs - how strange. As said before, remember the site is amidst pine trees and on a hill and some areas are sunnier or windier than others; we were on pitch 4 which is very quiet, quite shady but does have excellent wifi access.  Woke up each morning deafened by bird song and a woodpecker drumming away like mad. Also made friends with the visiting ducks who waited outside our awning for their breakfast each morning. We had a fabulous time. Thank you to the hard working wardens and the very nice fellow caravanners we met.

Awesome site, best we have used

Back from our first visit to the site and it is the best we have been to. First class toilets and showers with radio 2 playing. :-) couldn't fault anything at all. Fantastic dog walk too with great views of the reservoir.   Well done to the wardens.......

Some very poor all weather pitches

We stayed recently. It had been raining the previous day and was raining the morning we arrived. Whist it is evident that some work has been done to put new all weather pitches in, some of the cul-de-sacs were awful. The one we had to go on was a quagmire, the mud literally running over the stones. Not impressed at all.  To make matters worse quite a number of members ignoring signs not to go on the grass pitches which were obviously not in use just drove their car and caravan onto them to try and turn around. One clot got stuck and had to be hauled off by another members Landrover. He seemed to think it was funny. Not funny for us when to make matters worse the warden duly cordoned the whole lot off using foul rusty metal stakes with horrible plastic tape which made a horrible noise in the wind......he put the tape right in front of our awning where we were actually sitting at the time and seemed to think my wife had been the cause of several deep ruts which were going to need repair. He was less than pleasant to her when my wife complained. Not good. We have been going to Carsington on and off over the years, but it feels tired now and needs a lot more work in my opinion to bring it up to standard.

Happy Easter

What a great site which has everything to offer, walking, cycling, sightseeing and great wardens. We had rain all day on the Friday but the wardens worked overtime to book in and keep the site spotless.  The Knockerdown pub offers good food and welcomes dogs, the owners are very friendly as well, Local to Matlock, Ashbourne and Belper will definitely go back.  pete and sylv

One of our favourite sites in the UK

We have just returned from a week in the Peak District having spend four nights at this campsite. We LOVED it! It was perfect for our two boys who love to explore outside. The park/woodland walk/mud hills kept them endless entertained. The facilities were clean and the childrens bath was perfect after a muddy day of playing. The track around the water was great for cycling and we cycled to Ashbourne and along the Tissington trail which was great fun (albeit a bit hilly!)  We had a lovely welcome to the site also and all the wardens were really friendly. Thank you

Great site good location

Just returned home after spending a few nights at Carsington Water, what a great site nestled amongst the pine trees over looking the reservoir. The visitor centre is about a 30 minute stroll away, where cycle hire, fishing water sports etc. are available. The site is also ideally located for visiting all of the Peak District.  On site there was plenty for the kids to do, playing in the play area or the adjacent woodland. The toilet/shower block were kept generally clean and tidy apart from some muddy footprints in a couple of the shower cubicles. The pitches where well spaced out and very level. We visited the Knockerdown Inn, which is approx 3 miles away for a lovely home cooked meal and a couple of drinks. Will certainly return to this site again in the near future.

Happy Easter Break!!!

We arrived at this lovely site on Good Friday, the weather when we arrived was a bit wet but that does not bother us you cannot book the weather!!! This is a lovely area Carsington Water has a track all the way around so you can walk or cycle the whole way around which is great, we walked from the site down to the visitor centre then carried on to Carsington village for a couple of drinks, you do cross over the road to get to the village but the food in the pub looked very nice and reasonably priced. The wardens on site do a great job, trying to keep the utility block clean must be a nightmare with children running in and out, maybe a number lock would be a good idea. There was a sign up which asked members NOT to drive over the wet grass but people must not be able to read, there is no thought for the hard work which is on a daily basis to keep the site up to club standards. Come on members lets do our bit to keep our lovely sites the way we like to find them!!!
