Great site - shame about warden attitudes towards disablement!

Visited this site in April, very tranquil site with great access. We are in touring the UK and have visited quite a few CC sites including CLs, but we can honestly say we were pleased we had only booked 3 nights at this site, as the attitude of the wardens was shocking! Within 5 mins of paying the site fees we were literally chastized 3 separate times for trying to fill up with water and rather than trying to offer assistance to a disabled man, he was told "No you cannot fill up here and look what a mess you have made!" (Water on the road from the hose!) Fortunately we have been on many other CC sites where the wardens have been great, empathetic, understanding and extremely helpful - why is it that a few bad apples are allowed to treat disabled people with such disrespect which gives the whole CC a bad name! Also found the access to the toilet facilities at this site poor, fences appear to have been installed in front of the disabled ramps which means anyone with a wheelchair, mobility scooter or with general poor walking abilities have difficulties.

Motorhome Advice

This is a very nice site with easy access to Clumber Park. Our problem was that we have a UK motorhome with the water point on the near side, as most UK 'vans do. The MSP is on the right hand side of the road which means that my 5m hose would not reach the 'van water point. Solution - turn the 'van around - job done. Not so according to the warden who was close by. 'vans are not allowed to turn around to fill with water, although there are no signs to that effect and there seemed to be plenty of room to do so. His advice - 'vans must carry a hose long enough to fill up without turning around. My advice - make sure the warden is in the office before going to fill with water.

Something for everyone

The site has something for everyone. Situated in a secluded part of a previously opulent country estate where the mansion has disappeared, leaving grounds, buildings and a lake that provide miles of interesting walks and cycle rides. Both walks and cycle paths are way-marked, but the numbering can be a bit confusing without a map. Cycles can be hired if you don’t bring your own. There are plenty of refreshments around the lake and car parks and a BBQ area if required. Wi-Fi is good if you can see a mast, but slow in the evening, and TV wasn’t a problem, but mobile signal is almost zero. There is a secure cycle store which is reassuring as the site has access from the public park. Off site, Mr Staws House (NT) in Worksop is fascinating, but needs booking by phone, as tours are in very small groups and slightly further afield Hardwick Hall(s) + Mill (NT & EH), Southwell Workhouse (NT), Bolsover Castle (EH), Rufford Abbey and Roche Abbey (EH) are all worth a visit. Creswell Crags is different, but you need a lot of imagination to interpret the cave drawings.

First trip out

We are new to the caravan world and this was our first trip out. We had a few minor issues with our van, and people close to our pitch did try and help us out with advice deal, but lesson is take sometime out with a brew if you are struggling. The site it's self we thought was great friendly wardens and people. We secured our bikes in the bike shed there are two of them and both had limited space after 4pm. but the site was busy on Friday through to Sunday. If you like bike rides then clumber park has a 5, 7 or 10 mile bike rides around Clumber park. Some one mentioned the noise at night this wasn't from the Park but someone who was having a BBQ outside the park. the pitches are very generous in space and you have a nice mixture of hard standing and grass. There is no mobile signal at this site which was nice to get away from it all. we will definitely book this site again

Nice site, shame about some of the guests

As the title suggests the site is everything it should be, well run, clean, tidy, helpful wardens etc. Clumber itself has much to offer as does the surrounding area. The only thing that we didn't like about it was the number of rude and ignorant people, that think its perfectly acceptable to cut through and alongside your pitch to get to the toilet blocks, rather than use the paths. So if this is something you dislike choose a pitch on the outer edges rather than in the middle, or you will be spending your time feeling your on the M25 rather than in a lovely setting.

Lovely location

We chose Clumber park as we wanted to see the walled gardens and the park itself. Absolutely lovely location and if site is approached from the North you go through an impressive arched entrance and down the tree lined avenue. The site itself was great, lovely wardens, keys for toilet block, lots of roomy pitches. We have a little girl and she loved playing on the play area. We only have one complaint which is not about the site itself but about how noisy and busy it got on the Saturday night- lots of people with music blaring out of radios. We were fortunately in a more peaceful part to the right of the warden's office as you go in. Noise calmed down at bedtime. If you are looking for weekend peace and quiet it is perhaps not for you but if you want a family friendly, lively bustling site this is the one for you.

Well maintained beautiful site

Having booked this site a few months ago , was a little put off from recent reviews about bike thefts etc from awning. On getting on site we couldn't of asked for anything more relaxing . check-in was a breeze & able to pick your own pitch at your own leisure . The site is beautifully kept and facility clean at all times , as for bike theft , they are aware of problem and there is signs up saying to make sure you put them in the secure lock up . we didn't use this facility so carn't comment on the lock up. I do think though that the perimeter fence could be more secure to prevent people from freely gaining access to the site , apart from that the site is spot on & would certainly go again .

why not tell members about lack of wifi before they arrive?

Clumber Park is a jewel of a site. We use it as a transit site, often a few times a year, and it is a perfect site and location to break any journey for a night. (I'm not suggesting it isn't great for longer stays - I'm just reflecting our use of it.) There is no mobile signal and I do need wifi when staying. (I know some members like to get away from such things but in my case it is a high priority.) On two recent transit stays (separated by two nights elsewhere) I found there was no wifi. If only I could have been told in advance by the Club I would have changed my bookings to Poolsbrook (another convenient transit site). There is now a note on website but only on the site details page. My bookings were made months ago. And even if I were booking the day before I wouldn't visit site details page, just the search and book page, because I am familiar with the site. If the toilet blocks had to be closed - both - surely Club members would be warned in advance? Why not for another important facility? But it was still a pleasure to arrive to a very helpful and friendly reception from wardens.

A perfect get away.

This site is perfect for getting away from the hussle and bussle of everyday life. Situated in the middle of Clumber Park, the site is so remote and peaceful that you are guaranteed peace and quiet. It feels safe to let the children out of sight for a while whilst you sit back with your nose in a good book. No mobile phone or internet signal means you can not be disturbed. The site is imaculate with tireless work from the wardens. Great woodland walks to venture out on. We will definatley be returning as soon as possible.

In need of TLC

Have just returned from this club site which we used to visit many years ago when our two sons were teenagers. It was extremely busy all the time we were there and as one toilet block was not fully operational this put pressure on the other. We felt somewhat intimidated by the notices about secure cycle lock up available and the police crime notices in the toilet block and on Friday there was a police car patrolling the site. I suppose it is better to be warned and not something the club can avoid. We also felt that the toilet blocks were definitely "tired" and needed some major TLC. Great for families.
