WHY THE BARRIER BEFORE THE BARRIER?

I had a lovely weekend's stay at Ferry Meadows - great to cycle into Peterborough as I did this time, or take the train as I've done previously. As always the site and facilities were great. But wait, has there been a mass trespass by unwanted caravanners that would give cause to add an additional barrier before the normal barrier? Otherwise, I'm at a loss to understand the need for such a thing. Not expecting to come up against the barrier, I was too far away to hear what the speaker was saying - I eventually realised the warden was asking for my name which I gave, waited whilst paper was shuffled and was finally 'allowed' in. After I had given my name (again) and checked in, I queried the reason for the extra barrier with the wardens and was told it made people feel safe. There's already a barrier after reception so why wouldn't they feel safe already? I arrived when reception wasn't busy, any more than one caravan/motorhome arriving at the same time must surely cause queuing on to the road - not helpful for the public or the Club's reputation. I was made to feel like public enemy number one for having raised the question at all, I was told "well you're entitled to your opinion" and felt sure I was the topic of conversation after I left reception. On the whole a disappointing and unfriendly arrival. What are we doing as a 'friendly' club here? Creating, yet more, unnecessary rules, just the sort of thing that puts off potential members and broadens the 'rules is rules' reputation the Club has already cultivated. I wondered later if the barrier is simply to prevent any 'naughty' members who arrive early from gaining access - as mentioned by a member below - if so, that would be a sad indictment too.

I understand that was the case. That is why security guards were employed at the entrance for a time. It’s all for our protection.
