Another wonderful stay

Our sixth time at this site. As always a very enjoyable experience. The site is well kept and facilities are always spotless. The wardens are very friendly and helpful - nothing is too much trouble. We were lucky to have really good weather which gave us ample opportunity to explore the area. RSPB Arne is a special place worth a visit. There is some noise from the adjoining Council run site but we did not find it excessive and it is obviously beyond the control of the Club. Special thanks to Claire and Emma for helping to make it a very enjoyable stay.

Easter Bank Holiday

We arrived on Good Friday and departed Easter Monday. Can’t comment about whether the site is good for families as we didn’t have young children with us. We also didn’t stay on site during the day. We didn’t hear any barking dogs but that may be because of our pitch location. We had a good phone reception and could stream films off our phones. The local pub (The silent Woman) is welcoming and served very good food. Getting there is not a nice experience though if walking along the road. The countryside walk to the pub is very muddy in places. We would return but we tend to visit different sites each year in different parts of the country.

Barking dogs

Stayed over New Year where the barking dogs kept us awake for all 3 nights. Would not use again.

Comment from the Club

Thank you for your review and we are sorry to hear your stay was disturbed. Hunters Moon has over 122 touring pitches and only a small part of this popular Club campsite may be affected at certain times by the sound of the dogs next door. Please be assured that there are plenty of available pitches sited further from our canine neighbours. However, we are working with our neighbours to mitigate disturbance and we thank you for your feedback.

Good in parts

We’ve stayed at Hunter’s Moon in the summer but we’re not nearly as happy with our Christmas stay. Admonishing notices were prominent. Site staff were far from friendly. We arrived an hour early due to heeding dire warnings from the AA about heavy traffic over the Xmas break. We had a four hour clear run from East Sussex as it turned out and so arrived just before noon. We were content to wait, perhaps on the late night arrivals bay, and apologised for being early. But we were firmly told to leave the site and had parking on a nearby industrial estate recommended as an option. There was no parking there and so ended up on the entrance to a closed landfill site. Site fees were steep but toilet cleaning was sparse. Not a happy experience at all and one that we shan’t be repeating on a club site.

Love it!

I have been back to this site several times over the last year. The team are very friendly, kind, welcoming and extremely helpful. I find it a very peaceful and relaxing site. The facilities are kept to a very high standard. There is an off lead area for dogs and also an on lead walk in the field adjacent. It just generally overall has a relaxed peaceful friendly atmosphere about it. Yes there is a council run traveller's site next door but the dogs do not bark 24/7 - they bark when disturbed ie when it's time for walking, feeding etc. I believe they have kennels over there. Having worked in boarding kennels myself I can tell the difference between a stressed sound and an excited sound etc and when I have stayed I have not heard any distressing noises from the dogs. Some occasionally howl- it's normal for some dogs. I've had worse experiences of owners onsite at Hunter's Moon not stopping their dogs from yapping and barking tbh than an issue with the dogs at the site next door. Also campers who let their children cause issues for other campers and the staff after the 10pm quiet time were more of an issue too! As for the Cockerell crowing... the site is in the country and it's what Cockerells do... again Not all day and night! The BBQ cooking outside ban was necessary as there has been very little rain in the area (like the majorities of the country)and everything was tinder dry.

Hunters Moon Stay Clear.

Just back from 14 nights at Hunters Moon! We were subjected to 14 sleepless nights listening to constant barking of dogs 24/7 and cockerels joining in for good measure all coming from the Council run Traveller site next door, horrible to say the least, you need to drink extra to try to knock yourself out so you can sleep, not good at all. The site manager also decided to ban all BBQs on site for the entire 14 nights, this ban was still in place when we left on 26th August! We could all understand that using charcoal/solid fuel BBQs was perfectly understandable in the current dry spell (we have never ever had so much rain during our Dorset holiday, it poured most days) so thats another reason not to ban BBQs!! But to also ban Cadacs/gas BBQs etc is crazy and should never have happened! I was so frustrated I contacted the next local CAMC Site to ask if they had also banned BBQS, they said no, and were shocked to find out that we could not even use Gas? So I drove two hundred yards up the road to Wareham Forest Tourist Park, yes its in the forest, to look around and find everyone cooking using their BBQs, even the tents pitched the Forest Glades and on grass were cooking with BBQs???? When I asked the Site Manager why we could not use BBQs and a site a few hundred yards up the road in the same forest could, he explained to me he had done his "risk assessment" and even with the heavy rain thought it too risky??????? I always thought one of the highlights of the campsite atmosphere was to be able to cook outdoors, with a drink in one hand and soak up the lifestyle! Do yourself a favour, stay clear if you want some sleep etc, etc!!

Great stay!

We have had a brilliant 10 days here. Wardens are fantastic, so helpful and friendly. Yes you need a car, but you are in the middle of the forest but everywhere is accessible by car. A lot of negative reviews about the BBQ ban but it wasn’t just the site - it was all over the area. It didn’t worry us though as we used an electric grill so no bother at all. Will definitely come back

Wonderful

A lovely site with friendly helpful wardens. Toilet and shower blocks were spotless, lovely little shop and information point. Nice park for the children, only downfall was there is very limited phone signal and the site wifi was also poor. Having said that we will be back again!
