A Good Campsite

The campsite at Longleat is in a great location for the safari park which was our main reason for visiting, other than the safari park it is a bit cut off for other facilities though. We went over the Easter bank holiday, the site was full, my husband had to queue for a shower, the facilities seemed a bit on the tired side, and dated but they were very clean. It did rain a lot, and the facilities were used a lot, so by the time they were due to be cleaned the next day, they really needed it. The site at night was very dark, there weren’t many lights about, I know the Club is trying to be environmentally friendly but it made it really difficult to first of all find a pitch and then try to set up. I know the club are trialling the peg system but again it’s difficult when it’s pitch black and raining with very little light. The play area was disappointing, our daughter was really looking forward to it but it needs updating really, and for the amount of children on the site it’s really small and it was just full. There were also older children kicking footballs round it, not the campsites fault but annoying when you have a toddler. The staff were friendly, and helpful, the site is noisey at night from the safari park, the sealions don’t stop all night, and the safari vehicles are up and down from early in the morning on the road next to the campsite. Phone signal is impossible to get, and the wifi was very poor as well, but didn’t expect it to be brilliant as it is so far out. Overall a nice site, well maintained, clean but it does need some updating. I have read that the lease is due to end on the site soon, and unfortunately you can tell, such a shame as it’s so handy for the safari park.

Festival of Light stay

We used the campsite during the Festival of Light this weekend. It was brilliant, the location is right on the park, so no trekking from the carpark or queuing to get in or out of the Safari park. We were able to head back to our motorhome during the day to relax whilst waiting for it to get dark so we could enjoy the festival of lights rather than having to hang about on the park in the cold and wet. On the campsite all the staff were extremely friendly, accommodating and helpful. The toilets were immaculately clean and tidy. We will definitely visit again.

TLC required

Fantastic location. Peaceful, with the exception of listening to the wildlife from Longleat. This is, of course, an attraction of the site. Poor WiFi but gives you the chance to switch off. Facilities very dated and in need of refurbishment. Warden said lease is ending soon so no investment which is such a shame. In particular the disabled facilities need a review though I was able to discuss concerns with the site warden. Clearer information regarding access road to the site would be useful as the road feels more like a country track than an access road. Nearly turned around!

Another great stay

Another great stay at this site - myself, husband, son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter stayed again this year and couldn’t fault as usual. Seemless check in - lovely clean and well maintained facilities and pitch. Wardens went above and beyond as usual and were very accommodating and helped us out on our second day which made for a stress free day not having to moving car and motorhome.

Lovely Longleat

This is a lovely club site, on the border of Wiltshire and Somerset; clean, well-maintained, with good facilities. The staff are amongst the friendliest and most helpful we have ever come across and are always on hand to provide advice. A special mention should go to Sandra and her husband who made a particular effort to make us feel welcome. The site is large, clean and looked-after. Yes, there are some pitches that have been cordoned off in one area of the site, but this did not detract one bit from the great experience that we had on site. As with a lot of the sites, access to wifi can be very hit and miss, and so it is with Longleat; however, on the upside it really gives a chance to switch off and enjoy the holiday. There is a lot to do in the area, obviously the safari park, but also local walks around Cley Hill, walks on Cranbourne Chase, which is an area of natural outstanding beauty, and the Mendip Hills. I thoroughly recommend this site.

Good but..

As with most Club sites, Longleat is clean and tidy. However, they just don’t maintain some extras. The Wi-Fi is hopelessly unreliable, even if you are close to one of the antennas. Given the site is in a ‘dead spot’ for at least two mobile companies - so you can’t use your own system- having the Club system is important. None of the TV points on the bollard near our pitch worked. This is quite common. The site has no full service pitches. Several are being prepared. They were started over a year ago. They are still not finished. Given the prices charged by the Club, functional Wifi, TV systems and completing work in a timely manner isn’t unreasonable.

Isolated site on edge of Longleat Estate iron curtain

We stayed in July - 4 nights. Site about a quarter full. Friendly wardens. Clean facilities. Strangely there are about 6 pitches taped off and looking quite desolate, with partly installed electrics?Although we were aware that unless cycling on a specific cycle route you can’t venture onto the Longleat estate. It’s way more restricted than we had imagined. We chose not to go to Longleat £39.95 head and went to NT Stourhead! Long walks to the bus stops and pubs too. I get a feeling that this site is running down to closing. I’m guessing it will become part of Longleat!

Lovely site but just too remote

We have no complaints whatsoever about the cleanliness of the facilities, friendliness of staff or site layout all of which were fine. Our only negative was the remoteness. OK we booked it in advance and we read all the reviews prior to doing so so it was our own fault. However a word of advice to those of you in larger MH units..If you decide to go here make sure you have all your supplies for the entirety of your stay because it’s a bit of a Safari (get it?) getting in and out.
