Nice site - worth some investment!
This was our second visit to Penrhos, returning after 3 years and, well, nothing much has changed in that time really. It's a pretty typical CC site with a mixture of grass and HS pitches - the grass pitches at the top of the site have the better views but are quite slopey. The first thing to mention is the approach which, has already been said is not best signposted until you're actually at the turning which is just after a blind bend in the road. So look out for the AD ASTRA sign for the neighbouring private site - the turn is about 200 yards after this. Most of the potholes in the approach road do seem to have been smoothed over but there are two or three quite vicious speed humps on the narrow approach so do take care. You're greeted at reception with a glorious display of hanging baskets - the wardens obviously put a lot of work into their appearance as they do the rest of the site. The first pitching area you come to, just behind reception is a small circle of about a dozen pitches and if you want peace and quiet this is the area to head for. Although surrounded by tall trees most of the pitches here get a decent amount of sunshine throughout the day, but if you've got dogs with you there is also a good amount of shade. On the subject of dogs, there is a large enclosed dog field which is ideal for them to let off steam first thing in the morning and again in the evening - there is also a wide track at the back of the site, accessed from the left of the grass pitches at the top of the site. There is also a large children's play area at the top of the site. The one disappointment with the site is the single facilities block which was very tired 3 years ago and obviously more so now. It would surely repay the relatively small investment involved in refurbishing them inside with new shower and toilet units (no need to demolish the block and rebuild!). Possibly terracing the grass pitches and even making them HS would also add to the quality of the site. There is no shortage of things to do on Anglesey, from coastal walks to visitor attractions such as Beaumaris Castle and Penrhos makes an ideal base from which to explore. We will certainly return!

Pleasant site
Tired
This site is somewhat tired but the wardens are doing an amazing job to keep on top of running repairs and maintenance. The toilet block is kept immaculate as is characteristic of CC sites as well as mowing and shrub maintenance. This site is sheltered from westerly winds as we experienced on our 6 day holiday there. The roads are somewhat well worn and there seems to be a plethora of anti speed bumps especially on the approach. The site entrance off the road is narrow and with the road being busy, advanced signs for the site entrance would be very useful and warning signs of caravans turning would also help the safety of caravanners and other road users. Visibility from the right is limited when exiting the site. Otherwise a site to explore the sites and seaside from.
A lot of reserved pitches restricting choice
