Peace and Quiet

Second visit to Penrhos and the site remains much as it was some four years ago. Wardens make you feel welcome and take a lot of care over the site which is kept in very good condition. Ideally sited for beaches and shopping and loads to do on the island. Dog walk excellent. An enjoyable fortnight spent relaxing despite a couple of very windy days.

Lovely Site

This was our first time in our own caravan so we were on a steep learning curve! The wardens couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. The site facilities were as described and every where was clean. It was a great base from which to travel round the island. Looking to go back as soon as we get chance.

Penrhos-relaxing stay

Spent a lovely sunny week at Penrhos in July, as normal the wardens are very helpful and friendly, the site is immaculate, nice spaced pitches, the only thing I would say is not quite enough showers for the number of pitches and although kept spotlessly clean the block is in need of an update. As a few others have mentioned, a couple of approach "yardage signs" would be a great help to the entrance. Overall though a nice site in a good location.

Nice site - worth some investment!

This was our second visit to Penrhos, returning after 3 years and, well, nothing much has changed in that time really. It's a pretty typical CC site with a mixture of grass and HS pitches - the grass pitches at the top of the site have the better views but are quite slopey. The first thing to mention is the approach which, has already been said is not best signposted until you're actually at the turning which is just after a blind bend in the road. So look out for the AD ASTRA sign for the neighbouring private site - the turn is about 200 yards after this. Most of the potholes in the approach road do seem to have been smoothed over but there are two or three quite vicious speed humps on the narrow approach so do take care. You're greeted at reception with a glorious display of hanging baskets - the wardens obviously put a lot of work into their appearance as they do the rest of the site. The first pitching area you come to, just behind reception is a small circle of about a dozen pitches and if you want peace and quiet this is the area to head for. Although surrounded by tall trees most of the pitches here get a decent amount of sunshine throughout the day, but if you've got dogs with you there is also a good amount of shade. On the subject of dogs, there is a large enclosed dog field which is ideal for them to let off steam first thing in the morning and again in the evening - there is also a wide track at the back of the site, accessed from the left of the grass pitches at the top of the site. There is also a large children's play area at the top of the site. The one disappointment with the site is the single facilities block which was very tired 3 years ago and obviously more so now. It would surely repay the relatively small investment involved in refurbishing them inside with new shower and toilet units (no need to demolish the block and rebuild!). Possibly terracing the grass pitches and even making them HS would also add to the quality of the site. There is no shortage of things to do on Anglesey, from coastal walks to visitor attractions such as Beaumaris Castle and Penrhos makes an ideal base from which to explore. We will certainly return!

Penrhos

We love this site and visit at least once a year. From the moment we arrive we totally relax. The site is really well maintained and the flowers surrounding the office are amazing. There is so much to do in Anglesey we never run out of options. Like other guests our only issue is regarding the toilet blocks. Whilst the wardens keep it immaculate we think it has served visitors well over the years but its now tired and could do with a makeover. (I know the feeling!!) We understand that this may be scheduled for 2017/18 but think consideration should be given to that being brought forward. Some extra hard standings would also be welcome as some of the grass pitches are very uneven and there was quite a bit of relocation to hard standings as they became available. Overall a wonderful site in a beautiful part of Wales.

penrhos

site generally quite good, but let down by the toilet block ( gents ). there was always one , and sometimes two, of the 4 wc out of order, there was mildew and mould on the ceiling tiles in the showers, and in places on the walls, one shower I used was either hot or cold, no regulation possible, another the water came in hot / cold pulses, there was always a nasty smell outside of the toilet block, and numerous flies. not up to usual standard, very disappointed

Tired

This site is somewhat tired but the wardens are doing an amazing job to keep on top of running repairs and maintenance. The toilet block is kept immaculate as is characteristic of CC sites as well as mowing and shrub maintenance. This site is sheltered from westerly winds as we experienced on our 6 day holiday there. The roads are somewhat well worn and there seems to be a plethora of anti speed bumps especially on the approach. The site entrance off the road is narrow and with the road being busy, advanced signs for the site entrance would be very useful and warning signs of caravans turning would also help the safety of caravanners and other road users. Visibility from the right is limited when exiting the site. Otherwise a site to explore the sites and seaside from.

A lot of reserved pitches restricting choice

Average site - toilet block ok and well cleaned. Though arrived fairly early our choice was very limited by reserved 'disabled' signs - some of which were still empty the next day - very frustrating!

Needs renovation but still worth a visit

This site is very nice but it is really two sites in one. The main part is the largest area and appeared to be very busy and too crowded for us. We chose to stay on the smaller, more secluded area and it was perfect. Very quiet. The shower block is very dated and really does need an urgent overhaul. On a bad day the stench from the septic tank facility is horrendous. The wardens are very friendly and they keep the site looking beautiful. The site is not very well sign posted given that the entrance is almost immediately after a double bend. An advance warning sign prior to the bend would be very useful.
