This site is perfect for visiting Scarborough and surrounding areas, whether you are a family or a couple. Good walks off site ideal for dogs, West Ayton within walking distance with pubs and eating facilities. Supermarkets are all close by, Morrisons and Sainsburys. West Ayton chippy very good. Site is well maintained and up to usual C.C. spec. As with a lot of club sites trees are getting taller and satallite signals can be hard to get in some areas, having said that free view signal is good and there are arial plug ins on the bollards. Children are well catered for with table tennis and pool room, large play field and two playgrounds. Grass can get quite boggy when raining and was roped off when we was there. Overall a top site and friendly wardens. There was a lot of electric tripping in October, but not the van or plug in bollards, from the main box,s??. Wardens regularly walking round with electric testing equipment giving advice to campers with dodgy electric goods.. That can't be a bad thing. Will be going again soon.
Lovely Stay
We had a lovely stay at West Ayton Site last weekend. Having never been up that far before (we're from Surrey) it was a wonderful experience and we thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful scenery and Scarborough and Whitby. The site was very well managed and facilities beautifully clean with glorious hot showers that don't turn themselves off after one minute!! The dog walk was lovely with lots of bins! It was very dark at night and maybe a few more lights around the site would help. Our only complaint was probably our fault as we arrived early in the morning and parked on the late arrivals space in the car park. We walked over to the office much earlier than 12.00 but knew we probably wouldn't be able to pitch until then. We were not prepared, however, for the telling off we got for parking in that space and not stopping in a layby before we got to the site as a lot of people were expected and we would be in the way! Slightly unnecessary we thought. Anyway, the rest of our stay was lovely and we will be back as we didn't have enough time to see everything on this visit!
Scarborough Fix
Arrived at the site and found booking in easy and Wardens helpful and friendly. Was told not to drive over grass fingers. Site is tight due to pegs put at edge of grass to stop you driving onto grass. Pitch was lovely although the site was dark and needs more lights. The shower block is a little tired and in need of refurbishment. The site is perfectly positioned for Scarborough and all of the east coast. Thourighly enjoyed the stay and will definitely visit early next year.
Highly recommended
Brilliant, lovely site with very friendly and helpful wardens will definitely go again
Enjoyable stay.
This was our first ever trip out with a caravan. We were made to feel really welcome at the reception and the warden helped me get my caravan onto the pitch by giving some instruction and guidance. He also came back later to help me sort a problem with my water and told me just to call him if I needed any further help or advice. We really enjoyed the stay and were pleasantly surprised at the toilet and shower facilities. I've read some of the other reviews but cant say I heard much noise whilst we were there. The warden suggested I put a motor mover on the van to aid parking and prevent possible clutch damage and we were asked to keep the car and caravan off the grass but as the ground is soft and wet I can understand them saying this. All in all we had a great first experience and hopefully this is the first of many more enjoyable trips

Not as good as usual
On arrival we started to reverse the caravan onto the pitch which was tight when a warden shouting do you not have a motor mover when said not he shock his head and came and took the caravan off the car, we had to stop him otherwise he would have taken it off without dropping the jockey wheel. Although this isn't any fault of the wardens or camp site my husband went to the toilet just after it had been cleaned to find somebody had used the toilet and not bothered to flush it, I had a shower, dried my hair then realised I left my shower gel etc in the cubicle to find somebody had taken kids running around very late at night running around caravans 2 of our lights were knocked over and broken. Not what we are used to from caravan club members.
Prefered other sites
Lighting around the site could be improved as dark in places which is not good for security. Noisy jobs were done first thing in a morning, was woken twice on a three night stay. Didn't appreciate leaf blowers going for 2 and a half hours on my last morning. Think the warden/s could do with re organising his/her jobs with the thought that we are on holiday and would like to sleep in sometimes
Disappointing reception
Have been here twice before and no problems but this time was greeted with do's and don'ts. Told not to let wheels touch grass fingers whilst positioning van. Wardens following us whilst we chose pitch and wanting to unhitch and push van into position. Edges of grass areas were fenced or had posts to prevent anyone straying into grass but this made it very difficult to manoeuvre, and also park car alongside van. Wardens using leaf blower for long periods which became a noise neusance. Lighting seemed poor on site, torch needed at night.
Disappointing.
First and last time we will visit this site, we found one of the wardens very rude, all he seemed bothered about, was blowing the leaves, and his grass fingers, ( his words ) and people cars caravans etc going over them, not a good welcome, worst we have had in fact, and we have been to many sites around the country, also the wi-fi, and television bad reception, the other bad point was, at night there was hardly any lighting, not good for security, or your own personal safety, all in all, a very disappointing holiday.
Excellent
An excellent site for both couples and families. Attentive and helpful wardens, a credit to the club.
