Great site for family holidays

L'Amfora
Had a really enjoyable 9 nights at this very large site in late August / September. Had a huge pitch with its own shower, toilet and washing bowl. Pitch literally 5 minutes walk from a wonderful sandy beach. Very nice pool with water slides and water features. Local village not so pleasant though, although there are some really nice places within reasonable driving distances Site toilets and shower maintained to high standard of cleanliness and on site security very good. Evening entertainment was provided at start of our stay - quality ok but did tend to start and finish late ( approx 12.00) and one night was very loud and could be heard across the site. On site supermarket was large with good selection of produce at reasonable prices. We did however have some concerns over hygiene behind meat counter!! Site was very busy at end of August and was still busy in early September. Visitors to site are predominately German and Dutch with few British. Site dog friendly but not clear whether dogs are allowed on the beach . Signs are confusing however there were quite a number of well behaved dogs on the beach during our stay - particularly in the mornings. Overall great place for a family holiday with children but less so for those looking for a small quiet site.

An active resort

L'Amfora
This was our second visit to L'Amfora - we also went last year and loved it - this year we were less 'in love' with it - possibly because it seemed that there was a different feel in terms of noise levels - this year we counted 8 televisions outside outfits ( is this a growing craze?) including one next door to us (Dutch television!) - We doubt that we will visit again, however this is a fabulously well run site - everything is so efficient, right down to the security, which is 24/7. If I was visiting with a young family I would feel very happy and this does seem to be the majority of people - it is a truly good family site. The supermarket is brilliant and reasonable in terms of prices. Whole site spotless. Beach fabulous - you will always be guaranteed a place to set up. If it is a Spanish feel you are looking for, forget it. Very popular with Dutch families and the whole place is more like a general resort - the entertainment was not as good this year as last and we ended up walking out of the disco - the language on the songs we felt was not appropriate to the family atmosphere. However, there are opportunities to visit Barcelona and I would strongly recommend that you do this - we chose the 'Fountains' trip and it was fabulous. The tour operator staff were highly professional - the driver amazing! we sat at the front of the bus and felt completely safe. We rode our bikes along the bike path in to San Pere Pescador and had a super day there - market day / restaurant visit - fixed 2 course for 11 Euros! Lovely little town. We enjoyed visiting this area again and would recommend this for families with children of all ages. Take your bikes!

Top Class site with good facilities. Peaceful out of season.

L'Amfora
Why: We wanted a site in the Bay of Roses and this one had been recommended to us by friends. Location: About a 30-minute walk into St Pere Pescador and a 15-minute drive from the AP7. Check in – we had pre-booked through the caravan club to be certain of a pitch. We presented our letter of confirmation to the English-speaking receptionist and were shown to our pre-allocated pitch. Given that it was the 1st September we were surprised by the number of other campers also booking in. The site was not 100% full but it wasn’t far off. Many Dutch and German outfits with a sprinkling of English, French and Spanish at weekends. Pitch –huge by Spanish standards. Even with our 7.5m van, car and awning we could have got another large car on the pitch. Pitches are separated by hedges and all have water and electricity. For about 4 euros per night you can upgrade to one with waste water drainage. There are even some with their own private bathroom in a shed. Facilities • The shower block near our pitch was fairly new and was almost of Spa quality. There are other older blocks but all are very well maintained. All blocks are incredibly clean with a team of cleaners in attendance almost all of the day. Without doubt the best sanitary facilities of any site we have visited in Spain. • Swimming pools quite large clean and well maintained. Child friendly. • Bar and restaurant. Usual international menu mainly featuring frites but it was very busy and also very good and reasonably priced. Whilst there we tried the steak, seafood, pork and pizza and were not disappointed. The wine is also very drinkable cheap. You can buy the same wine in the bar to take away in a box. There is also a bar on the beach which serves cocktails and food until the early hours. This was also excellent. • Supermarket with a wide range of stock. You could have done all your shopping there. Prices very reasonable. • Beach – you can walk out of the gate directly onto the beach which runs for miles around the bay. It was cleaned daily and was great for adults and children as the sea is very shallow for some distance. No matter how busy it is you will always find a quiet spot. Beware, it can get very windy, which is great for the kite surfers but not so good for the sun worshippers. It got so windy that we had to leave on about 2 days during each week at the beginning of September. We did however return to watch the kite surfers who were amazing. Pros • Very well run and maintained site. • Large pitches • 5-star sanitary facilities. • Site is more or less bordering the beach. • Good value for money food and drink. • Well placed to discover all the towns and sites of the Bay of Roses Cons • Can get very windy due to location South of the Pyrenees • Whilst it was quiet whilst we were there we were told it can get very busy and noisy during the peak season. Would we use again – yes. Had a great time. We would also pre-book again.

Brilliant Staff - Dreadful Site

L'Amfora
Stayed here for five nights and were looking to leave shortly after arrival. The pitch we were given had trees in it which were too low for our 2.8m high motorhome to get under. We were offered other pitches, but all had the same problem. Pretty poor since the Caravan Club and the site knew our vehicle dimensions in advance. The pitches were small and packed close together. They were allegedly grass. However, the grass had worn away which left rock hard mud, which, when walked on, ground to a very fine dust. When the wind blew, which it did every afternoon, sometimes at gale force, the dust flew and literally got everywhere. We then realised why most people had put down mats of plastic or tarpaulin, which they swept or washed every day. We had paid extra for a large pitch with a private bathroom. Well worth the extra expense, but still with the dust problem. The site has a policy of no noise after 2330, which was adhered to. Unfortunately, the adjacent site had loud music every night  which went on until 0530 on one occasion. You need to be very aware of cyclists of all ages who totally ignore the one way system which is supposed to be in operation. The worst are the adults on their electrically assisted upright bikes who whizz around at 15mph totally oblivious of what’s going on around them. The ‘restaurant’ is a joke. It’s a fast food eatery similar to Little Chef with Michelin star prices. One reviewer described the site as “Butlins with sun.” That is an insult to Butlins! However, the sun bit was right. Notwithstanding the above criticisms, the staff were absolutely first class. They worked their socks off and were cheerful & friendly the whole time. They were very well managed, the bins were emptied several times each day and the services regularly cleaned. For a site with so many pitches - about 800 - it was very clean & tidy. The other plus point is that the site is adjacent to an excellent sandy beach which is many miles long. Needless to say, we will not return.

sun, sea, sand and a lot more if you want it

L'Amfora
we met friends there after touring across northern spain and spent a great 3-days just sitting on the beach (we had been to the area a few times before so had been to all the local attractions). A site that is difficult to fault, very good pitches, very good facilities, reasonable bar and restaurant and the pools make a great alternative. The site has a zero noise policy from midnight which seemed well adhered to (they do patrol). There is lots to do in the area as well so if the weather is a bit off you have alternatives.
