Disappointed

Rosevidney Barton

I reviewed this CL in 2019 and was looking forward to returning. Unfortunately the other section of the field (fenced off) now has workmen or similar living in a number of caravans and campervans and we didn't feel comfortable sitting out in the evening as we felt we were being watched. The site is small and as the pitches are not marked I can see there would be a problem if there were more than say 3 vans booked in. On the plus side, this location is the best for exploring the area but we have found another non EHU CL in the area for the same price which is far better. I can see this won't be a CL for much longer unfortunately.

A good old fashioned CL as it should be

A very basic CL but for £5 a bargain! We did query the area of site as we think the half acre is for both paddocks meaning the site is probably only a quarter of an acre and may be a little snug for 5 vans but we were there with one other and had plenty of room. Water and emptying point easily accessible. Field surrounded by trees for privacy. Only downside for us was with difficulty in paying and as we were only there for one night, we did spend quite a while trying to find someone to pay. We will definitely be back when we are in the area again. An ideal location to visit all the many beautiful places in west Cornwall.

We spent 6 nights at this CL at the start of September 2104 and despite it's location we were the only ones onsite for that time. Initially I'd been a little put off by the directions “care required in places”. However the site is just 0.5 mile off the main A30 and although the lane is quite twisty in places there are a number of wider areas and passing places.  We've been to a number of CL's with much more challenging access than this one where no mention has been made in the book. This is a basic CL with a small field surrounded by mature trees.  The field is split into two paddocks with the CL in one half and a few sheep in the other half.  It looks as though the paddocks may be rotated from time to time with the sheep serving as grass cutters.  The grass was not cut short but was not particularly long either and the ground was firm and caused no issues for our 8m, 4.25T motorhome.  There is a centrally locacted water tap (in each paddock) and a basic brick built shed containing a toilet for CDP use.  There are no electric hookups but if, like us, you are electrically independent then that is no problem.  The owners farm is a short distance away but he is very laid back about payment and we didn't actually see him until our third morning. The site is about 5 miles from Penzance which means you can reach Lands End within about 30 minutes and about the same time to reach Truro in the other direction.  If is far enough from the A30 that there is little or no road noise and the lane outside the CL only sees the occasional car or tractor passing.  The railway line is about 400 yards away but the trains are quite infrequent and caused no problems to us. In summary, this is a quiet peaceful site which to my mind is clearly underrated. It is well located for visiting much of the south west of Cornwall.  If the lack of EHU's doesn't bother you then it is a bargain site at just £5/night.
