Mature Couple

Stayed for the 3rd time mid-May - very good 2 night stop over on journey to Scotland. Easy to find and good access, level hard-standing pitches. Friendly owners. Drove to Almouth beach - lovely walk north and back. Will be back.

Excellent CL

We stayed on this site in September with our motorhome and two dogs. It is exceptionally well located being so close to the A1 and the beautiful town of Alnwick. We had a little trouble finding out where to pitch but the lady owner was very friendly and helpful when she appeared. The pitches are all level hard standing with grass. It is basically a quiet site although traffic sound is evident it isn't a problem. The area round about is good for safe dog walking. We did try the Hogs Head for a meal but wasn't impressed but the Fish & Chips Shop in Alnwick is excellent and not to be missed. Alnwick has parking bays for motorhomes. We would highly recommend this site.

Motorhomer - great site for visiting Alnwick

Quiet site with friendly owners and great facilities. Easy walk, little over a mile into Alnwick and big Sainsbury's only about 10mins away. Would return. Thank you

Relaxing stay

We have just returned home after a 4 night stay , feeling relaxed , met the owner on arrival she was very pleasant and easy to talk to . No complaints, looking forward to our next visit but no room at the inn for at least the next 2 months but that goes for most sites due to Covic 19 .

Faultless

Just back from a lovely weekend and have no faults about the site. When I made the booking the owner was lovely and said to pitch where I wanted and to either pay that day or the next. Site easy to find. All pitches are hard standing and wide. When I payed the owner gave me some ideas of where to go for lunch. Sainsbury is a 10 minute walk from the site. Alnwick a 30 minute walk and there is a McDonald’s 5 minutes walk from the site. There is also a lovely hotel the hogs head and had a lovely meal there and not to expensive.Lots of places to walk the dog. Will definitely return and would recommend

Good but not excellent

First impressions were that it was a bit small but it turned out to be ok. We were in the far corner in which the grass remained soggy despite some lovely weather, I think because the site slopes that way and is in shade. Hard standing appears to made of ore rocks that could do with being crushed and compacted to give a better base. Excellent for dogs with a superb woodland walk right outside. This leads to many other interconnecting routes. It was amazing to see the owner taking his numerous dogs out for daily walks without any leads at all. There was a strong wi-fi signal visible but was secured so I think it may have been for the B&B which if it was it would be a boon if it was accessible to caravaners, even for a small additional charge. The peace was only slightly spoiled by the noise from the industrial estate across the small valley, a minor issue. The toilet disposal point is no worse that those at bigger sites as long as you get your outlet pipe in the hole you see less than you would normally! Suggestion for the owner is to install an actual toilet assembly with a flush in the location of the disposal point like I had seen on another site. The beach to the south of Alnmouth is the best we have encountered, even better that Cornwall. Superb. Head south out of Alnmouth and on the left you see some sand dunes. After about a mile look for a small wooden public bridleway sign on the left, directing you down a very unmade track to Buston Links which had my 4X4 bouncing around; at the end is free parking and even on the Bank Holiday Monday when we first went it had hardly any cars there, and even less after the BH. Not the owners fault but some people need to be a bit more tolerant of socialising as we don't all go to bed at 10pm when on holiday. You also meet some very nice people in such closer knit sites, see you soon Vicky and Phil. Overall we would certainly recommend this site.

Disappointing

On the plus side this is a good location for visiting local places of interest such as Cragside- a must see. The pitch was flat and hardstanding which is always good. However there are some negatives. The welcome was anything but warm. On arrival we were greeted by a huge sign saying "Keep off the grass" with another by the service point saying "No parking". I had to go looking for the owners to pay and received a very gruff greeting of "Is that your motorhome on the top? " When i confirmed that it was I was told "You're here for 2 nights then. That'll be £28". The worst part for me though was the chemical waste and grey waste point- yes they are one and the same. It's a flat concrete area with a hole in it where you can see the last bit of waste floating on top, with a very low single brick surround. You need to use the brush provided to sweep your waste into the hole while directing water from the hose to wash it away. Although as I said the remnants float to the top and sit there waiting for the next user. Great care is needed to avoid splashing chemical waste over your feet. A very unpleasant experience. We were very happy to move on to our next stop..

Great CL, we will be back!

We stayed here recently, owners very friendly and we loved the site. All pitches were level which is a bonus, we found the site quiet and very pleasant. We had no problems finding the CL, as it was well sign-posted and no problems with access either. There is a Co-op and a Spar close to a McDonalds within easy walking distance (10 minutes comfortably). There are cash points at the Spar and also outside Sainsbury's. Sainsbury's is about 15 minutes away, we also walked into Alnwick quite a few times as the weather was good, it took us about 35 minutes. Barter Books is a "must visit" too, it's around 30 minutes leisurely walk and has a great restaurant with reasonably priced meals or cake, teas and coffees if you prefer. It's a book lovers dream and the big roaring fires are a delight! We will definitely stay with Mr and Mrs Weddell again and look forward to visiting Alnwick again, it has a nice atmosphere and we found shop staff very friendly indeed. My only minor criticism of the site was when emptying waste water and having to lift over a lip to empty it, as mentioned also by a previous reviewer. But all in all, the site is very well kept and we are glad we found it!

Favourite local CL

This is a great CL, very handy for touring the local area. It’s about a 35 minute walk at a decent pace into Alnwick, where there is lots to see and do. Dogs seem to be particularly welcome in Alnwick, most shops seem to have water bowls outside and many of the pubs and cafes allow dogs inside. There is the most amazing walk directly from the site into a local woodland. Can’t recommend highly enough. CL owners really friendly.
