Ideal for walking

An excellent site for anyone who enjoys walking-numerous walks can be done directly from the site including Striding Edge, Helvellyn, Fairfield and High Street. You are allowed to explore the Park and not far off is the slightly mysterious Lanty's Tarn. Both Patterdale and Glenridding are in walking distance: so you can forget about the car if you wish. The site is very shady, and thus has little in the way of views, but it is still attractive, especially Grisedale Beck. It no longer has banks of rhododendrons as they had to be removed. Pitches are a little tight--but it works well given the limited space available and the presence of many large trees. Thoroughly recommended. In fact, for me, it's worth the Club Membership fee on it own.

Great spot, warm welcome, poor mobile and radio links

Very warm and informative welcome from the Estate Office who have print-outs of local walks and much more. Very picturesque spot close to excellent walks and lake steamers. You need a very long hose for water. Only real downsides: no FM radio reception and poor mobile connection. Vodaphone works but not for internet apparently.

Lovely LocalPlacesOfInterest

Having come from sites in open fields we did feel a bit disappointed to be so shaded and under trees but after the first day that went and we absolutely loved the site. It is very shady and the pitches are very narrow but what a wonderful location to explore area with two nice towns within walking distance. Jon in the site office could not be more helpful. Although the pitches could be more generous in width you do not feel on top of each other and the site is clean and tidy with the bins etc kept behind a fence and out of the way. Could not give it full marks for peace and tranquility because the beck that runs next to the site is extremely loud when it is running high (!) if you are on the pitches next to it and you do get some noise from the road, however, at nighttime there is little traffic. Wonderful site that we cannot wait to visit again.

Our first time won't be out last!

We had been looking forward to Patterdale for months and we weren't disappointed. The instructions in the CC book were excellent and needed to be as the Certificated LocalPlacesOfInterest sign on the junction where you turn is of a size you will miss! Having negotiated the drive to the site, it is wide gated and easy to access. It has a feeling of security about it. This is a pretty site complete with babbling brook (beck) The pitches are tight though and if I had a moan, this would be it. To get our awning up we had to pitch as far as possible to the side of the pitch to have any chance. We managed it but not all pitches were as "generous". You are among trees and shrubbery which is always a pleasure. The site is generally quiet with a little road noise but hardly perceptible. As for the area, well, what can one say - fabulous, wonderful etc etc. It has a rugged beauty that the Lakes are all about. This is walking country make no mistake and not to have walking kit is almost a crime in these parts! and the walks are as numerous as you want and as easy or as hard as you want with Hellvelyn pulling you towards it, but wherever you are you have the rugged and natural beauty of the fells. Penrith is the largest town and the usual mixture of supermarkets can be found there but the local shops in Glenridding have an excellent choice of goods. We didn't try the local pub but from previous reviews, perhaps we should have and definitely will next time. And there will be a next time. There are many NT attractions in the area with Aira Force Falls just 5 mins by car. Worth seeing and it must be spectacular when in flood! The area is of course dominated not only by wonderful fells but the waters of Ullswater which is a most impressive lake with fishing, boating sailing etc and if that doesn't float your boat, you can always take the steamer for a pleasure trip up the lake. There are plenty of places around the lake where one can find peace and tranquility Keswick is in easy reach by car, another wonderful town surrounded by magnificent crags and fells. All in all, an excellent CL and an excellent stay!

A Little bit of heaven

We have been using this CL for the last 10 years and we love it. Most years we are here several times a year. The CL is under trees beside a brook and is almost invisible from the road. Very little road noise is heard due to the trees and stone wall screening the site from the road though. Booking in is over the road at the chalet reception but this is open all day so no problem at all. Motorhomers would need either a very long hose or containers to carry water in as the tap is a little remote from the pitches. Same applies for your waste water. There are superb recycling facilities on site or down the road in Glenridding main car park. There are walks in every direction from the site, both low and high level so what ever your ability you will not be bored. You can also get a good meal in The White LIon pub in Patterdale if you dont fancy cooking. Definatly one we will keep returning to again and again.

Ullswater here we come

Having stayed here before we had no problem finding the site and pitching. If you do zoom past it from the Glenridding direction, there is a handy layby to turn around! The pitches ARE a little small but we have a motorhome and no awning so it was fine - if you have a giant awning you've no chance! You wont get any satellite reception as it's very wooded, so this site is great for getting away from everything. The road is fairly close but is not busy in the evening. A great location for long or short walks, and ideal for climbing Helvellyn (past us I'm afraid!). We had a nice meal at the White lion Inn pub in Patterdale - nice food and much cheaper than the pubs and restaurants in Glenridding. This will be one of our regulars in the lakes.

Patterdale Hall Estate

Well located site, roughly between Patterale and Glenridding so ideal for all the walking in the area. Facilities are good and there is a launderette on site. My only adverse comment would be that I found the hardstandings to be small. Having perched the caravan (4 berth single axle) as far over to one side as possible the awning overhung the pitch on the other side, and then there was no-where to put the car. The hardstandings could be made bigger without having to remove any of the greenery, and I think this would improve the site

Peaceful break

We stayed here over Christmas 2012 & had a great time. It's a pleasant site - among trees by a stream - & although it isn't far from the road we didn't notice much traffic noise. Good walks in all directions with a few small shops and pubs & hotels within relatively easy distance. Booking was trouble-free and very efficient. We'll be back!

Super site for ascending Helvellyn

We visited in July 2010. Excellent location to access all walks around Patterdale & Glenridding. We did Place Fell and Helvellyn whilst there but would have done more if it hadn't rained so much! The pitches are really secluded down a narrow track with a babbling brook just yards away. Motorhomes need to have a long water hose as the water point is not readily adjacent to the pitches. £12 per night was good value. Glenridding has more shops etc. But Patterdale shop & pubs were just fine. One to return to when we get some good weather!

PERFECT PITCH

Excellent location in the corner of the estate. Visted in June when the Rhodedenrons were in full bloom which screened the CL from the hall. Was given a map of the estate at reception on arrival and would recommend the circular walk from the site up over the Kelda's which had a beautiful view of Ullswater. The shops in both Glenridding and Patterdale were well stocked and the one in Patterdale baked their own bread daily, also has a bit of fame as being visted by Julia Bradbury when filming the Coast to Coast walk. If in a motorhome, you do need a long water lead and the tap is a domestic type push one, but this was our only negative point. The recycling and rubbish area was well fenced off and organised. I did use the launderette which was very reasonably priced. Would definately return.
