Short break

Our 2nd visit to Carsington was as good as expected. Excellent site and location, wardens very nice, facilities immaculate. If you fancy a quiet few days with excellent scenery and walking this is the place for you.

Excellent.

We stayed here for a long weekend, Stayed with friends, as this site was central to us all  The staff were great & friendly We walked down to Carsington water, a short walk away, a path leading from in car parks entrance, an easy walk to the visitors centre, As luck would have it it was Derbyshire day, it had excellent village fete there along with Radio Derby a good day The Lake walk is 8 miles around, a nice and flat and easy walk, it would also make a good bike ride.  This is a excellent site and we will be back again.

Peace & quiet needed....

…And that’s just what we got! We stayed here for a long weekend but would have loved to stay longer, unfortunately work commitments put pay to that! We are relatively new to caravanning (18 months) & this site has to be the best we've stayed on yet. The whole feel of the site (full when we stayed) was quiet, relaxed, clean & bright. We chose a grass pitch next to the lower play area as we have a 3 year old, this smaller play area is in need of a little tidy up (perhaps for 2016??) but our daughter loved it. The staff were great, my hook up cable was too short and the staff on site found me a longer one to save me moving from the pitch we'd chose next to the play area!! Because of where it is the site attracts plenty of dog owners, there were plenty of dogs on site but were all kept on leads (as they should be) but we never heard any barking at all. Carsington water is a short walk away - I guess better on the bike - as is Ashbourne where there's plenty of local pubs, shops, super markets etc.. This is a cracking site and we will be back - with a longer hook up and some more levelling blocks (as some pitches are quite uneven. Spot on!

Great for walking

This is a lovely, clean site with the best dog walk I have ever experienced. The site is ideally placed to walk to the reservoir and Visitor Centre. The walk around the reservoir is to be recommended. There are also other walks in the area. We will probably go back to this site if we choose to stay in this area.

Great site

Love this site. So well laid out. It's a big site, but you don't get the feel of been crowded. It's split into small areas, unlike Southport, where I felt as though we had just parked in a field. We have stayed three times, in the last month, and just missed out on a fourth stay, as the site was fully booked. However, we have arranged to leave our caravan on site until November, as we want to get a few more visits in, before the site closes, on Nov 2nd. Even when the site is full, it's not noisy, or look 'busy'. Carsington Water, close by has lots of walks, cycling, boating, etc, to keep you happy. Eight mile's round, so a nice trip. Ashbourne, about 5ml away, has a Sainsburys, Coop, and Waitrose, and there is an Indian , in Matlock, that will deliver to the site. Toilet block is large, and modern, and is kept spotless, and the staff, on site, are brilliant.

A good site, well worth visiting

This is a good site. The pitches are well laid out and the toilet block is both modern, large and spotless. The wardens are very friendly and helpful. The site is set in woodland, so be careful about the shadow from trees etc but there are some pitches where you can get really good exposure to the sun in your stay. The micro-climate of this site is very favourable, we live 45 mins away but whenever we check the weather at site, it is generally drier than where we live. The pitches are a little tight in width but are well spaced. The location is great with Carsington Waters & Ashbourne close by. There is a pub within walking distance, but a torch would be needed for an evening return!

Country Retreat

The impressive drive leading upto the site is like arriving on a Country Estate! We enjoyed our stay and managed a couple of good walks around Carsington Water and nearby Dovedale. Our weather was mixed so we weren't overkeen on our pitch which did have a view but was shaded by the trees and the rain cascaded down through the night. The wardens were really helpful and friendly.

Wet Woodland

We really enjoyed our first stay here. The scenery and area is outstanding. Only a few pitches have a tantalising glimpse of Carsington Water however. The site runs uphill with branches running off with several pitches on each branch. Some cul-de-sac's so beware. Some pitches will take a bit of levelling too. The modern toilet block is central and well looked after. The friendly wardens do an excellent job sometimes in inclement weather. If it's creature comforts you want then the WiFi is good(slows when site is busy at w/e). TV reception is excellent and mobile was patchy with my EE network. The dog walk is around the perimeter of the site amongst the coniferous trees and is mostly pleasant, in some parts however, it narrows close to a barbed wire fence and in others, remains boggy all the time. Dogs on lead at all times - no exercise field. The nearby Carsington Water visitors centre is well worth a visit and is only a 20 min walk. They have a topograph there, a 3D landscape of the area and this describes the club site as "Wet Woodland". The tall conifers block out a lot of sun, therefore the ground remains wet. When we vacated our pitch there was a 8" mushroom under our van. We also had a scared squirrel running frantically in the awning, Happy days!
