Excellent site

Stayed July and September. We have now stayed at this site twice this year. The first time on a grass pitch and the second in the top area. The first time we had to put up with the construction of the yurts which was continuous hammering and drilling for three days. The second visit was by far way better. An earlier review commented on the sound of church clock and barking from kennels. It is a fact of life that these things existed long before the site. The facilities are all new and the wardens keep them spotlessly clean but unfortunately a few inconsiderate people using the site fail to appreciate that they have these excellent facilities. Unfortunately, when we were there the second time, there was a shortage of wardens. At any time there should have been a minimum of six but there were only four to carry out all the duties. They were always polite, helpful and taking action when incidents of speeding or non rule compliance occurred. You can understand if they didn’t always have a smile being under that pressure. The Club needs to value and take care of their staff. One of the wardens, during our second stay, took the trouble to bring to our caravan fresh cooked fish and chips which was much appreciated. Thanks for a great stay.

What a transformation!

First visited Cayton Village site a couple of months after CAMC had taken over; it was a pleasant enough private/ affiliated site, but we were blown away by the transformation that's happened over the last year. The facilities are state of the art - everything from first impressions at reception/ shop barriers and entry are immaculate and the team were really pleasant with friendly advice and a cheery hello. It's a large site, but it still manages to feel intimate - the atmosphere was wonderful; very peaceful and we'd definitely recommend - indeed it'll be one we'll be returning to in the future.

Recent stay at Cayton Village

We spent a week at this new site late August to early September Site itself is new and clean ,well run and quiet despite its large size ,the beach is an easy walk to it but very very steep down to the actual beach . We feel however we must mention two definite downsides ,firstly the village church clock chimes the hour through out the night as well as during the day which for light sleepers can be an issue ,but the more relevant point is the boarding kennels on the opposite side of the road to the site ,the dogs bark more or less continuously most of the day and can easily be heard from most of the site,we are dog lovers on the whole ,but the noise can be very instrusive Having done most of the area and the two things mentioned it's unlikely we will go back

Back to Cayton

Excellent and well maintained site, we are fairly regular visitors here and love the surrounding area, with our old dog we can go for short walks get a beer, a coffee and fish and chips. Nice large site and spotless all the staff have been great on our visits.

Stay 21-29 August

Excellent site, busy, facilities brand new and clean. We were on the top site which was fine but the choice of round pebbles for hard standing was a mistake. A thin layer of angular chippings would be more appropriate. Niggles: our daughter arrived to take up an Experience Freedom booking booked by us using our membership number and reception refused to tell them our pitch number (data protection nonsense I guess - the club should apply some common sense). Many dog owners allow their dogs to urinate on grass adjacent to pitches - not very nice! Irresponsible speeding members don't seem to care particularly as many children were around. There must be some responsible members but there weren't many at Cayton! I feel that the Wardens could do more as they happily watch speeders pass them by and seemingly take no action.

Two great trips in 2021

We've spent two short breaks at Cayton Village this year, in April and August and have loved it both times. It's a very well laid out site, we were on the top field the first time and the lower one more recently - yes, some of the pitches in the upper area are a bit sloping but we had no problems. The main draw for us is Cayton Bay beach - a quick bike ride or 20 minute walk to a large expanse of fine sand, lots of space to spread out and lifeguards ensuring safe areas for swimming/surfing. And having just been to Cornwall too I can confirm the North Sea is no colder than off the south west coast! There's a surf school and 'Lucy's beach shack' selling teas, ice creams and buckets and spades etc and nothing else, which is exactly as we like it. We also cycled into Scarborough one day and Filey the next, both easy routes without needing to be on main roads. There's a large Morrisons about 2 miles away, again, not a busy road if you want to cycle. Our only niggle is that although the cleaning times in each of the loo blocks have been tweaked, there's still an hour or so with both closed - unlike in other sites we've stayed on this year. All in all though, a great find and we'll definitely be back before too long.

Try the Pub

We usually stop on the other side of Scarborough but decided to try the new site this time... Having tracked the reviews and stopped at the height of the school holidays we were very impressed. The facilities were excellent and staff were smiling and friendly. The bottom site was full and we ended up next to the sports cage/arena but had absolutely no problems with noise etc The Farrier pub in the village served excellent food and we had no trouble at lunchtime getting a table but booking is advisable as obviously v popular with locals too. We used the bus to get to Scarborough and Filey which is very good during the day but if you want to get back after 9 ish you may want to book a taxi after any show etc you go too...The SJ Theatre is always worth a trip. Taxi fare was about £12 50. We have already booked a return trip on a seviced pitch in October.

Great location

Spent a few days here with my 7 year old grandson on a serviced pitch on the lower site. Where we were situated (pitch 18) was quiet and spacious. Being in the middle of the school holidays there were lots of families so some parts of the site did seem busier than where we were and at times the facilities were in need of a quick tidy up ( rubbish left in showers and on toilet floors). It is a great site for children with a lovely well used play ground and ball park and with a frequent bus service immediately outside the site with buses taking you to Scarborough and Filey. The walk to the beach at Cayton Bay is about 20 minutes - a beach with lots of space and rock pools which were a hit with my 7 year old. One disappointment was that the Farrier was fully booked for the duration of our stay so probably best to book before your trip if going in peak season. Love the location of this site so I will be back.

First time at this new site

Decided to visit Cayton Bay as although a little expensive, the VAT reduction made it more reasonable. The site is a bit sterile, being new. We had a pitch in the top field, on the edge, close to the dog walk, which was quite pleasant with a nice grassy area to sit out on. Some of the pitches here are quite narrow and some are very difficult to access especially if you have a large unit. Love the location. About 20-30 minutes walk to the bay and beach with a pleasant pub stop on the way back. The paths down to the beach are very steep though. Walk the other way into the village and in 10 minutes can pick up essential supplies including a lovely ice cream from the pub. There are buses either way from outside the site, every 15-20 minutes, to Scarborough or Filey, going on to Bridlington if you want to go that far. There is a large Tesco at the bus station in Filey. Again though the paths to the beach are very steep. Would we go back? Probably not as the overall ambience of the site was not to our preference.

Holidaying with grand children

Having read some previous reviews we were a bit apprehensive before arrival. Some of these reviewers have not got the brains they were born with. The site was excellent and all the staff exceeded expectations. With 3 generations of our family at site there was something for all of us., with the kids not using their i pads all week. Good location and very easy walk into village and plenty to do within 15 miles. Would highly recommend.
