Great site

Had. Weekend here in September. Great location with 3buses an hour into Scarborough. The other way buses to Bridlington. 20 mind walk to Dayton bay. Yes the facilities are dated , but they were spotlessly clean, credit to the wardens. We will definitely return again after the refurb think this will be a really popular site.

A great site

We arrived yesterday, there were only a small number of pitches available but the one we chose is good. I took our dog for a walk around both the dog walks which are excellent, I wish they had these on all of the sites. We got all set up with our awning on a grass pitch, no problems. It is very nice here and a good site. Today we had our showers, yes the water only lasts 5 seconds but I just leant my back on the water knob as I needed to wash my hair. No problem. I placed my toiletry bottles on the window ledge and also found the width of the seat suitable. I think some people moan unnecessarily, having read read the previous reviews. We had a walk to the village today and saw all the shops and the pubs. It’s very nice here and we will return in future, looking forwards to seeing the improvements to come.

Lovely site, Ideal location for visting East Yorkshire

Our recent visit to Cayton Village site was very pleasant, friendly, helpfull staff fully committed to the upkeep of the site even with the future refurbishment in the pipeline for next year, look forward to visting again next year and seeing all the proposed improvements. Ideal for getting about, bus stop outside the gate with regular buses up and down the coast, short walk to the beach and access to the " Cleveland Way "( path might be a bit steep for some people ) small village within walking distance with 2 different pubs, church, chipshop, local post office/shops and tea rooms. Enjoyed our stay there again.

Will be back when refurbished

We enjoyed the site it is in a fantastic position for visiting all the resorts of Filey , Scarbrough and Whitby . Cayton Bay is fantastic and only a few minutes drive in the car . The village is a few minutes walk away with a couple of shops a dog friendly pub and a fantastic fish shop . . The only bugbear were the actual pitches which are very small and close together , the pitch we were on could not accommodate our car at the side of the caravan , it had to be parked in front of the A frame , meaning neighbours were too close with no privacy . Yes the showers need a refurb and having to keep pressing for the water supply is not ideal but they were clean and the toilets were spotless. We will certainly go again once refurbed ,

Good Site

We were nearly put off going by the bad reviews. We found the site very good. Yes some hard standing pitches had some weeds but most were fine, high proportion of serviced pitches, , toilets/showers clean, grass cut, bins collected and staff helpful. Also well served by buses and easy walking distance to Cayton village with pub and shop. We will definately be returning,

Thanks for all the bad revievs -

A big thank you to all those who gave the site one or two stars. Due to Gills cancer we can't book more than a couple of weeks ahead, but two weeks before the August bank holiday they had fully serviced pitches available and we booked. What do I compare it to? Southportt and White Water are our last two Caravan club sites and they have been recently refurbished. We have been caravanners for over 20 years and use mainly commercial sites. So here goes, the wardens were helpful and understanding that many would be later than 6pm on a bank holiday (try that at a commercial site), the site is level, and all the services wiork - we were warned that it was a no awning pitch so can hardly complain that we weren't allowed to put up our sun shade type awning. Yes the roads are not metalled, so cars will throw up dust if they speed past - can't really blame the wardens for the one in a hundred campers speed. No idea what the wardens do all day - but the grass isn't unkempt, the bins are always empty (on a bank holiday!), and the toilet block that we use is clean and tidy - maybe some well trained pixies are at work. No idea what the showers are like - even when we used our 19 year old van we always used our own shower. Will we come back - you bet A big thank you to the wardens for making our long weekend away a good one, thank you to our neighbours - pleasant helpful and quiet, and a big thank you to the club, this is a site that will be a credit to you all.

Fantastic site

Stayed at this site with my family although due to a very unfortunate incident I was hospitalised during our stay so didn't make full use if the facilities for the week. However my partner and baby stayed on for longer than we had booked and the site office were more than helpful in accommodating this for us. We are new to caravanning and the staff offered to help my partner with anything she needed it was a perfect service given the unfortunate circumstances. They were also very accommodating in letting us keep the van on site whilst I made arrangements to get it home. I would reccomend this site to anyone and am sure we will be back to enjoy a longer stay next time. I cant thank you enough for your support.

Good site marred by unreasonable warden and his deputy

We thought this was a great site. The toilets were clean and tidy and it is in a good location with Cayton village only a five minute walk away where you have two pubs, a shop, post office etc. Also there is a bus stop right outside the site entrance which takes you into Scarborough which is very useful. Unfortunately we had an unpleasant experience with the warden and his deputy. On arrival we chose a grass pitch because it was a large grassy area and we liked the location. I saw the marker and thought straight away that it looked too close to the nearest occupied pitch, so I took the decision to reverse beyond the marker leaving my front offside corner next to the marker rather than the our rear offside corner. This meant that we were further away from the nearest unit and therefore adhering to the 6m rule. There was still loads of room to the rear of our van. On our second morning the warden came over and said that we were not parked correctly because our rear offside corner was not next to the marker. Obviously I explained why I had done this and that if we moved the van (and large awning) forward we would in fact be closer to the next unit and would therefore be creating a safety issue. He was having none of it and insisted that we move the camper and the awning for by 5 meters. This was a massive inconvenience to us because we had the awning all set up correctly and fully loaded with all out things including an inner bedroom for our two girls. Despite it being blatantly obvious that if we did move forward that we would be closer to next door he was still adamant that we move and if we didn't then we would be asked to leave the site. So in the blistering heat we moved all our stuff taking 90 minutes in total. We were soaked with sweat as it was about 30+C degrees at the time. This was totally unnecessary and pointless and we both felt that they were just being extremely awkward and unreasonable. The grass area was enormous and he could have simply just moved the pitch marker to the rear of our van and that would of made us totally compliant with the rules. When we returned from our lovely day at the beach our neighbors had gone and I noticed that the warden had removed the pitch marker from the next door pitch which just went to prove that were correct because if someone had pitched there they would have been too close to us. I don't know why they had taken a dislike to us but we certainly felt that were had been victimized. A real shame because other than that we had a great time at this site.

Lovely welcome

As others have said the facilities are ready for upgrading, but the warmth and welcome more than made up for this. This is our second visit, we first visited just before it closed for winter last year. We found a lovely pitch where we knew our dogs would not bother people. We have a car as well as MH, mobility problems, and found this site great for getting to Scarborough, Filey, Bridlington etc. The only thing about this site that puts us off is the price. It is more expensive than others with comparable facilities. If it were cheaper we would visit more often. I hope the upgrades planned do not price it out of many people’s budget.

A pleasant surprise.

I recently stayed at the Cayton site for three nights during the half term break along with my 14 year old son. I was not sure what to expect after reading the mixed reviews. My feelings about the site are as follows and to be honest I was pleasantly surprised and I felt that I had a nicer experience than at other sites. Yes, the site facilities do need a degree of upgrading but in their present state they are still much better than a lot of other sites. The previous weekend I had stayed at a privately run touring caravan park in North Wales and it most certainly need an upgrade....it was grim. Maybe some members should have an occasional reality check to see what other facilities are like. As I have said, I really liked and enjoyed our stay. The pitch that we had was delightful. It was quiet, private and just generally a nice place to be. The trees and hedges around the site add to the pleasant feel. The showers etc are not as bad as some make out. Yes, they may have 1990’s tiles but they were spotless and worked efficiently. I seen nothing wrong with them personally and if a push button shower button upsets you, then maybe caravanning is not for you. The staff on the site were lovely. Possibly the friendliest that I have come across. I had a long conversation with one of the staff members and was told about the upcoming improvements. My big dread would be that the site is changed and ‘so called improved’ and end up like the Tewkesbury site which had been, in my opinion, absolutely ruined. Tewkesbury was once a nice site but now feels like a council run caravan storage facility. Hopefully this will not have to the Cayton site and the endearing characteristics of the site are allowed to maintain. Yes, improve the taps and toilets but please don’t overdo the decimation of the natural features of the site and have kerbs and tarmac everywhere. I hope to make many return visits if the site is not ruined by modernisation.
