Pleasant quiet site, great location

I knew this site from many years ago (30 ish). So obviously it's changed a lot. Personally I can't see what some of the other reviewers were complaining about. The site was clean and tidy. The shower blocks were also. I get the slight niggle about the shower controls , but they're the same as many other sites. Sometimes they stay on long enough sometimes they don't. I just lea against it while showering no big deal. The two ladies who greeted me were friendly and informative, giving me a map of the site and pointing out locations of dog walks and exit to the village, which to be fair was well signposted despite what a other reviewers have said ( and always was). I would highly recommend this site. 5 mins walk to the village and about 10 mins to lovely Cayton Beach. What's not to like. I will definitely be going again!

Nice site perfectly situated

I really can't understand the negative reviews for this site - Yes it is not up to Club standards but they only bought it in March - regardless of this it is still a nice site We were there 5 nights and had a great experience, on arrival we were checked in by a friendly lady warden, and our pitch was quite a distance from reception on the Laurels. Pitch had electric, waste, water, and TV connections - as others have said the pitches are quite narrow, but long - we had no problems pitching the van and awning. The toilet block was clean and warm, showers are push button, but again no problems encountered - I am sure when the club have a chance to make improvements they will, but at the moment it is a perfectly acceptable site, the wardens we encountered were all friendly and hard working - always had time for a chat and kept the site neat and tidy. All of the seasonal caravanners we met were friendly - and the site itself had a nice friendly atmosphere. A 5 minute walk takes you into Cayton Village, and a 30 minute walk takes yo to Cayton Bay. There is a bus stop right outside the entrance, and the Scarborough park and ride is about 2 miles away. From here you can visit coast, moors, and the Wolds - and the site will be even better once improvements are completed

Nice peaceful stay

Recently had a 5 day stay on a super pitch with tap, drain tv booster in addition to electrics. Pitches are not as wide as we are used to but long enough to have awning and car on same side. With these pitches did not need Motorhome service point and fees were very reasonable. It is harsh to criticise the club when they have only taken over recently and clearly there is much to be done and I did see several people walking round with clipboards surveying various aspects. It does demonstrate how spoiled we are with the standard of our club sites generally and how much we take for granted. I would say top priority for me would be to replace the push button showers and put in wire baskets to hold toiletries. Just as shower gets up to temp it shuts off and there are no wash cubicles. Overall site was very quiet and ideal base for touring Yorkshire coast and moors and Cayton beach ideal for dogs. There were gales whist we were there but site is well screened by trees and seemed well sheltered. Overall good value stay and would use again.

New Kid on the block

Having only just been taken over by the club and after reading some of the reviews, was a little hesitent on booking this for a three night stay, I shouldn't have been. On arrival the wardens were brilliant, pointing out the pitches that were available and allowing us to change to a new location as we wanted a quiet pitch. the one they recommended was excellent and a serviced pitch, which we really liked. Where we were was quiet and the toilet block was a short walk away. We did not find any issues with access to the blocks and there are three on site to choose from. They were kept clean and where as they could do with some decoration, must remember we are at the tail end of the season and would expect some work to be needed. We really enjoyed the stay, the local shops and pub are a short walk away, as is the chip shop, which I thoroughly recommend a visit to. in short, looking forward too what the club will do with the site but would definitely visit again. This could become a little gem.

Our First Visit

This was our first visit to this site and it won't be our last. The staff were very helpful and attentive. The site was clean and well maintained. Our pitch was a very good size. The toilet's were clean and well maintained. It is our understanding that the 'Caravan and Motorhome Club' only took over this site in March of this year and there are a lot of improvements they wish to carry out. These things take time and the changes can't be made overnight. The staff are doing a really good job but they are having to face quite a few difficulties. They need support, not harassment. We will be returning next year, we had a few issues this holiday but they were all with our caravan and not the site. Over the winter we will sort our issues out and we will be back. Thank you Cayton Village Caravan Site, see you next year.

Great location for the beach & a bus ride in to Scarborough

We only booked 4 days ahead of our visit, having read the mixed reviews we remained open minded. Arriving at 6pm on a Friday we were greeted with a friendly reception, pitches are allocated, I can see why as the site is pretty large & pitch sizes vary, so it makes sense to ensure everyone is in the right sized pitch. We'd booked a serviced pitch in the "Laurels" & weren't disappointed with our spacious & level pitch (our unit is a 7mtr m/home plus large awning. The showers & loo's were very clean & tidy, with plenty of hot water. The 15min walk to the beach (Cayton Bay) was safe & accessible, sandy & clean water, lifeguards are present too. We had great fun in the rock pools & spotted fish, crabs, shrimps & living plants. Fish & chips in the village was good & there's a couple of convenience stores. The bus stop is right outside the site, one way for Scarborough & the other side for Filey, Flamborough & Bridlington. We were given the timetable & instructions when we checked in. We would definitely return, it will improve further with the planning, resources & funding the C&I'm club will bring. But can't fault it in its current format.

What a gem

Just returned from our second visit to Cayton Village. The site is a real gem, close enough to the attractions of Scarborough Bridlington and Filey but in a peaceful village location. Buses to all local resorts right outside the gate. The site is certainly a quirky layout but we loved the grass pitches, so much better than hard standing pitches in my opinion. The staff are grafting constantly to keep the lush vegetation under control but all the trees and shrubs make this a very pleasant site. The facilities are well past their best but are kept clean by staff. I look forward to the redevelopment but hopefully the site won’t loose all the grass pitches or it’s charm under the bulldozer!!

not up to expected Club standard

Booked the site 25th May for two nights and have a 7m MH. No Club sign on approach to site however a staff member outside giving information that this was the Club site. Booked in £29 for each night, allocated a pitch. Asked where the motorhome service facilities were. Answer - "There are none at the moment. On reaching the allocated pitch which was on grass and a slope.and this is after passing a number of unoccupied gravel pitches, I find the pitch is adjoining the next one with little space and the car owner parked a foot from the rear of my MH to the point that he shifted the pitch post. The toilet block was below a reasonable standard, old fashioned and needing the uplift now. The one constellation was the staff I met were helpful. Given the charge was £29 per night, (it was an English Bank Holiday) I would suggest the Club either get the upgrade done now or until review the unacceptable charges.

Nice Site

We have just returned from a lovely short weekend here. We arrived just before 8 on Friday 29th June and left about 15:30 Sun 1st July. After a little pitch allocation mix up we were given a nice pitch near the facilities. I had read the reviews and thought there might be some issues - but to be honest we never came across any. The staff were nice and friendly, we spoke to other site users that seemed fine. Ok we had discussions regarding the changes but people who weren’t happy have or are going. I did feel it was a shame that the site was going to receive such an excessive refurbishment. Maybe as it would have been somewhere we would have used next year but also as it has some nice trees and shrubs as part of the site. So in short - we loved the location, we loved the feel of the site and if possible will return soon. The price was more than fair too! We were kindly allowed to stay later on such a glorious day so made the most of it with a walk to the beach and a few hours sunbathing. I would recommend the site to anyone.

Good location

The location of this site is on the edge of Cayton village itself. There's a handy Premier convenience store in the village which is really well stocked and run by very friendly staff. There's also a chippy - the fish we had was delicious! There's a bus stop at the entrance to the site with buses going to Scarborough and Filey which is handy if you fancy a day off from driving. We went to shows at Scarborough Spa and to see a play at the Stephen Joseph Theatre - all were excellent. Seafront parking in Scarborough is free after 6pm! We also had a day out in Bridlington which we love almost as much as Scarborough! The site itself will benefit so much from the input of the CMC - some parts are just weirdly organised! The shower blocks are fine - key code entry which we couldn't understand. The site has ANPR barriers and they only work between 8am and 11pm - so no late nights or early departures at the moment! Also pitches for this season are allocated - it'll be better when you can choose where to be. It also needs better signage as parts of the layout are a bit confusing. So much potential though! We'll be back!
