Our stay at Cayton holiday park

Having stayed here three times already this year ,we have found the site ideal for us as motorhomers within close proximity of shops, pubs and a regular bus stop directly outside the site obviously not up to the usual standards of CAMC sites due to it being in transition.Pete, Janet and crew are doing a fantastic job under trying circumstances and we’re sure once all the changes are completed it’s going to be premier caravan site. They are working in the interim to ensure your stay is a pleasant one , so can’t understand why all the negativity due to the situation they are in ,the site fees reflect this ,looking forward to our next stay there .

Nice site perfectly situated

I really can't understand the negative reviews for this site - Yes it is not up to Club standards but they only bought it in March - regardless of this it is still a nice site We were there 5 nights and had a great experience, on arrival we were checked in by a friendly lady warden, and our pitch was quite a distance from reception on the Laurels. Pitch had electric, waste, water, and TV connections - as others have said the pitches are quite narrow, but long - we had no problems pitching the van and awning. The toilet block was clean and warm, showers are push button, but again no problems encountered - I am sure when the club have a chance to make improvements they will, but at the moment it is a perfectly acceptable site, the wardens we encountered were all friendly and hard working - always had time for a chat and kept the site neat and tidy. All of the seasonal caravanners we met were friendly - and the site itself had a nice friendly atmosphere. A 5 minute walk takes you into Cayton Village, and a 30 minute walk takes yo to Cayton Bay. There is a bus stop right outside the entrance, and the Scarborough park and ride is about 2 miles away. From here you can visit coast, moors, and the Wolds - and the site will be even better once improvements are completed

Nice peaceful stay

Recently had a 5 day stay on a super pitch with tap, drain tv booster in addition to electrics. Pitches are not as wide as we are used to but long enough to have awning and car on same side. With these pitches did not need Motorhome service point and fees were very reasonable. It is harsh to criticise the club when they have only taken over recently and clearly there is much to be done and I did see several people walking round with clipboards surveying various aspects. It does demonstrate how spoiled we are with the standard of our club sites generally and how much we take for granted. I would say top priority for me would be to replace the push button showers and put in wire baskets to hold toiletries. Just as shower gets up to temp it shuts off and there are no wash cubicles. Overall site was very quiet and ideal base for touring Yorkshire coast and moors and Cayton beach ideal for dogs. There were gales whist we were there but site is well screened by trees and seemed well sheltered. Overall good value stay and would use again.

peaceful

After reading the many negative reviews we was worried about our 2 weeks booked , we got back weekend gone and we had a very good holiday pros : Wardens very Friendly even lent me a hammer for my awning pegs , we had a very large pitch and no movement all 2 weeks around us as had permanent pitches around us ,that was different , a nice walk way to the village that has a nice pub and chippy we only tried the chips but was nice ,the village church was behind us too but the bells were not annoying or loud a peaceful bong , that helped me now and then to know when to get up ,, toilets were clean , very large site , bus stops outside , playground for kids , number plate recognition at barriers, a little shop on site , dog walk for dog owners , Cons: Electric tripped in the night twice when we was asleep when we had nothing on as such and the fridge and freezer food got warm and melted ,, uneven pitch both ways and we had to walk sideways for two weeks so need your ramps etc, and we had hard standing pitch that we personally don't like , but that's not a con to some , dated toilets and my wife complained about no hairdryer plug in the womens toilet , but we heard the toilet blocks are going to bulldozed anyway in time ? no site pamphlet or club badge that i collect so didn't know were the alley was to the village until i explored the site on foot or that we had to stand on the slaps outside to catch the bus to scarborough we stood at bus stop opposite and watched it go straight past wasted time on our day , bigger waste bins are needed . and the gate to village should have a code or a pass on my own thoughts , but ....................... overall a very nice site with great potential and we will go again even like it is now,we have stayed at a lot worse , Colin and Amanda ...

We will not go back

Like another reviewer we have never had cause to write a negative review in the many years we have been members of the Club. Our trip to Cayton Village however was the worst experience on a club site we have ever had. Like the other reviewers we thought the shower blocks were dreadful and in fact I had a bad thumb from having to press and hold the button in the whole time I was showering. No racks for shower gel, shampoo etc. where are you supposed to put them. No hairdryers. The Laundry room is a joke, notwithstanding the token problem mentioned below , I did some hand washing in the one sink there, however no draining board attached, where are you supposed to put your washing in between washing and rinsing it? The CDP became blocked, will say no more on that one. The dog walk in the Laurels is not a positive as mentioned below because it is not secure and so Dogs cannot be let off the lead. There is very very poor TV reception despite having booster aerials, I do not think ours was working so we gave up trying to view the telly. On the serviced pitches the bollards with the electric, tap etc are a disgrace being filthy dirty. The Laurels is quite spacious but the main site is very overcrowded and looks dismal and dreary. Cannot comment on the Wardens as we did not have any contact with them except seeing a man emptying the bins.. With all the bad points mentioned you would think that is it but no the worse is to come. We arrived on site and then having just erected the awning sat down at 3pm only to be greeted with a tremendous noise. There was some kind of a Rave concert going on in an adjoining field/campsite. To say the Rapping and Dance Music was loud is an understatement. The DJ was screeching and screaming through his microphone and his favourite effect was a very loud car horn which he "beeped" constantly. The noise went right through the site there was no escape. Had we not just put up the awning we would have demanded a refund and left. We thought it might be a one off - nut no this happened for 5 days, sometimes starting at 3 and sometimes 6 and going on all through the evening. We could not even sit in the awning as it was deafening and had to lock ourselves away with windows and doors shut. I have had to score peace and quiet as 1 but it is a 0. I know this is not a fault of the Caravan Club but nevertheless certainly adds to our whole awful experience on the site. Come on Caravan Club why buy a site like this one that needs so much improvement and why charge so much i.e. a premium rate for a very below standard site?

Apprehensive

Went on a visit to this site early on this year to check it out. The Club had only recently taken over the site and it looked quite crowded and scruffy, was assured by the very helpful wardens that while it was nowhere near Club standards they were doing their best to keep it clean tidy and safe. So was very apprehensive before we went, also had read some bad reviews. But was impressed by the obvious work that had been done, hedges trimmed grass cut and edged, all looked very tidy. We had booked on the Laurels and was pleased we had, this part is more open and bigger pitches and a good dog walk all around the edge. Once the Club has worked its magic it will be a very nice site. A lot of work is planned and will probably take at least a year, but worth it. The staff on duty were all very helpful and always willing to have a chat and assure you that all is well during the changeover. It is being run as an affiliated site this year, so don’t expect the quality we are all used to, this is reflected in the price. Yes the toilet blocks and service points are dated, but adequate. Handy for everything the North Yorkshire Coast and Moors has to offer. A bus stop straight outside the gate takes you to Scarborough one way and Bridlington the other. Clayton Village has a good chippy and The Star pub does good meals and is dog friendly. We had a very relaxing week and look forward to visiting on completion. Don’t be put off with negative comments, it is very peaceful, admittedly the schools are back, but even on the weekend still quite.

New Kid on the block

Having only just been taken over by the club and after reading some of the reviews, was a little hesitent on booking this for a three night stay, I shouldn't have been. On arrival the wardens were brilliant, pointing out the pitches that were available and allowing us to change to a new location as we wanted a quiet pitch. the one they recommended was excellent and a serviced pitch, which we really liked. Where we were was quiet and the toilet block was a short walk away. We did not find any issues with access to the blocks and there are three on site to choose from. They were kept clean and where as they could do with some decoration, must remember we are at the tail end of the season and would expect some work to be needed. We really enjoyed the stay, the local shops and pub are a short walk away, as is the chip shop, which I thoroughly recommend a visit to. in short, looking forward too what the club will do with the site but would definitely visit again. This could become a little gem.

Site needs extensive upgrading to be classed a Caravan and Motorhome Club site

Site wardens all very nice and pleasant, but the site in general needs lots of work in order to be considered C&M club standard. The toilet block facilities are poor and having to constantly hold the water tap whilst trying to wash in the shower is quite unacceptable let alone no racks for soap etc. and no stool in the shower cubicle. I know the club have only recently acquired this site, but it is expensive when compared to other club sites with superb amenities and pitches. There are no motorhome service areas and where we were sited the chemical waste point was quite a walk from the pitch. I believe there is a better area called the Laurels but this is not made clear when booking a pitch and you are allocated a pitch on arrival without any choice as to the suitability of your needs. Unfortunately I think this time the club may have got this one wrong and we will not be returning to this site in a hurry until the club get it right!! .

Disapointed

On arrival we were allocated a hardstanding pitch, given a map of the site area where we will be pitched. Asked about WiFi and was advised there is none where we were pitched even though I have suscribed for 12mths and staying 8 nights. The hardstanding pitch was only wide enough for the caravan and porch awning. All a site roads are gravel with some potholes. Problem finding a drinking water tap as they are not marked on the site map. Had problems exiting the site due to the ANPR system. took 5 mins on 1st attempt and site staff were not very helpful. After day 2 they left the exit barrier up during the day. Was not told about the Laurels site area and the better dog walk around it. The club needs to spend a lot of money to bring it up to expected standards as the toilet/shower block was lacking in some basics like a stool in the shower (even none in the disabled) No hairdryer in Male and Femail facilities. Would have expected a slightly reduced price considering the above. Would definitely not visit again for a few years until facilities and improvements were made.

Our First Visit

This was our first visit to this site and it won't be our last. The staff were very helpful and attentive. The site was clean and well maintained. Our pitch was a very good size. The toilet's were clean and well maintained. It is our understanding that the 'Caravan and Motorhome Club' only took over this site in March of this year and there are a lot of improvements they wish to carry out. These things take time and the changes can't be made overnight. The staff are doing a really good job but they are having to face quite a few difficulties. They need support, not harassment. We will be returning next year, we had a few issues this holiday but they were all with our caravan and not the site. Over the winter we will sort our issues out and we will be back. Thank you Cayton Village Caravan Site, see you next year.
