Disappointed!

Unfortunately your allocated a pitch, we were put right next to the play area despite being retired with no children. The pitches are very tight and the facilities are way below normal club standards. I know the club has just obtained the site and it knows it needs upgrading, however the price at the moment is to high. We won’t be back until it improves

Nice site but rude manager

The site was lovely, quiet & in a nice area. The initial welcome was great, however we encountered a problem with the emergency manager. We stayed at the site to be near to Scarborough hospital where my mum was. During our stay my mum became terminally ill, therefore we regularly called to the hospital. As the site has a no-access rule between 11pm - 8am, it meant that on 2 occasions we had to contact the emergency number to leave the site early. The first time wasn't an issue. The second time despite telling the manager we had to get to hospital and he told us he could see us at the gate, he started to argue that the number is only to be called in the event of an emergency. I screamed that it is an emergency & finally he opened the barrier. I appreciate that the site has rules to be followed, however sometimes circumstances are out of our control & the on-site managers need to be more understanding. Due to this I will not be returning again.

What a gem

Just returned from our second visit to Cayton Village. The site is a real gem, close enough to the attractions of Scarborough Bridlington and Filey but in a peaceful village location. Buses to all local resorts right outside the gate. The site is certainly a quirky layout but we loved the grass pitches, so much better than hard standing pitches in my opinion. The staff are grafting constantly to keep the lush vegetation under control but all the trees and shrubs make this a very pleasant site. The facilities are well past their best but are kept clean by staff. I look forward to the redevelopment but hopefully the site won’t loose all the grass pitches or it’s charm under the bulldozer!!

We will be back once taken over

A short weekend at this lovely site. However I do feel it is too big for the amount of staff they employ. I really hope they remove the ANPR barrier that only works if the staff input your car details. It wouldn’t matter how many times we drive up slowly, it was never going to recognise it. Incident in the toilets, lady needed treatment at the hospital. Trying to contact site staff was fruitless. They really do need the phone diverting to a mobile on such a large site. The incident could have been much worse and the lady concerned was in the shower block on her own at 9.40am but we could not locate any staff. 20 minutes later they turned up to clean the shower block totally unaware of how many times I had tried to contact them. They were marvellous and took over, calling the ambulance. It will be a cracking site once redesigned, seasonal pitches done away with as someone’s else said, they do think they own the site, they have no respect of your pitch, if it’s a short cut they will use it regardless if they are walking over everyone’s pitches! Ha ha We will go back, possibly next year once it’s been redeveloped.

not up to expected Club standard

Booked the site 25th May for two nights and have a 7m MH. No Club sign on approach to site however a staff member outside giving information that this was the Club site. Booked in £29 for each night, allocated a pitch. Asked where the motorhome service facilities were. Answer - "There are none at the moment. On reaching the allocated pitch which was on grass and a slope.and this is after passing a number of unoccupied gravel pitches, I find the pitch is adjoining the next one with little space and the car owner parked a foot from the rear of my MH to the point that he shifted the pitch post. The toilet block was below a reasonable standard, old fashioned and needing the uplift now. The one constellation was the staff I met were helpful. Given the charge was £29 per night, (it was an English Bank Holiday) I would suggest the Club either get the upgrade done now or until review the unacceptable charges.

Nice Site

We have just returned from a lovely short weekend here. We arrived just before 8 on Friday 29th June and left about 15:30 Sun 1st July. After a little pitch allocation mix up we were given a nice pitch near the facilities. I had read the reviews and thought there might be some issues - but to be honest we never came across any. The staff were nice and friendly, we spoke to other site users that seemed fine. Ok we had discussions regarding the changes but people who weren’t happy have or are going. I did feel it was a shame that the site was going to receive such an excessive refurbishment. Maybe as it would have been somewhere we would have used next year but also as it has some nice trees and shrubs as part of the site. So in short - we loved the location, we loved the feel of the site and if possible will return soon. The price was more than fair too! We were kindly allowed to stay later on such a glorious day so made the most of it with a walk to the beach and a few hours sunbathing. I would recommend the site to anyone.

Good location

The location of this site is on the edge of Cayton village itself. There's a handy Premier convenience store in the village which is really well stocked and run by very friendly staff. There's also a chippy - the fish we had was delicious! There's a bus stop at the entrance to the site with buses going to Scarborough and Filey which is handy if you fancy a day off from driving. We went to shows at Scarborough Spa and to see a play at the Stephen Joseph Theatre - all were excellent. Seafront parking in Scarborough is free after 6pm! We also had a day out in Bridlington which we love almost as much as Scarborough! The site itself will benefit so much from the input of the CMC - some parts are just weirdly organised! The shower blocks are fine - key code entry which we couldn't understand. The site has ANPR barriers and they only work between 8am and 11pm - so no late nights or early departures at the moment! Also pitches for this season are allocated - it'll be better when you can choose where to be. It also needs better signage as parts of the layout are a bit confusing. So much potential though! We'll be back!

Good now and will get even better

Stayed for a week at the end of May 2018. Good security. All interaction with staff was great and very friendly. Location is good as it is possible to walk to a great beach (20 mins it took us). Short drive to Scarborough and bus service too. Stayed on the Laurels part of the site. These pitches were all fully serviced and further apart than the older part of the site. These pitches only wide enough for van and awning and car has to go at front, but not a problem as good amount of grass between them. The old part of the site was not so good - very little space between pitches and some had no car space at all. I think the plan is to change these next year. Glad we booked laurels. It looked like many of these were fully serviced though. There were lots of seasonal caravans which made the site look busier than it was. I did wonder whether the toilet facilities would struggle if all pitches occupied, but for half term, never had an issue. The toilets were clean and acceptable, but I have seen higher standards at other club sites. Site was very peaceful. A good dog circular walk allowing off lead walk through the trees around the laurels part of the site. Please retain this in your development!! This wasn’t well signposted though and I stumbled on it. I thought there was a large field for walking the dog before I went but this had been the case and the walk of the old site was fenced off to form a short path that really poor and inadequate, so finding the Laurels one was good! However Cayton bay beach is dog Friendly. As we don’t have young children cannot comment on their facilities, but there was a playground. The only visit to the village was to use the post office/shop. We did stop at the Tow Bar pub at the holiday village on the way back from the beach which was OK. Overall a good week and I’m sure this will be a great addition to the club and be very popular.

Will be an excellent site in the future

We stayed on this site for three nights 11th to 14th May. The usual welcome from the wardens who are doing a wonderful job in difficult circumstances. There are a lot of seasonal pitches and the holders think that THEY own the site, they are not happy that the club has taken the site over and make their feelings known. But, as I told one of them, there is an alternative. Don't let that put you off though. It is a nice site and in a wonderful location and, when finished, will be a very popular addition to the club network. The toilet blocks are adequate but nowhere near club standards, having said that they are kept spotless by the wardens. The pitches are not very wide, not enough room for caravan, awning and car side by side, but this will change, no doubt. I was told that half of the site will be flattened at the end of this season and totally re-vamped, to re-open August 2019. This will bring that half up to club standards. Give this site a try. There is a lot to see along that part of the East Coast. Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington are a short distance from the site. Bempton Cliffs bird sanctuary is well worth a visit. If you like steam trains then Pickering and the North York Moors Railway is a little further afield. We will more than likely give this site another visit in the future.

Will return

This is a large site to manage in a great position. The bus stop outside is a bonus. Because of the size and the lack of facilities in Cayton itself ( the local pub is on its last legs, ready to close), C&M should consider building a restaurant/bar/cafe on site.
